Ugh. We're going to hire him and he's gonna bring Coombs. No imagination. Just trying to be Ohio State Jr. I want a coach who has bigger aspirations.
He's only 43

I know. I just don't feel like heis on the same upward trajectory as some of the young smaller school guys who are already in HC positions. Do you see Fickell leaving for a big time job at any point? I could be way off, but I just don't see it.
Neal Brown took over Troy at age 34 and they were 17-31 the 4 seasons before he got there. This year, in just year 2, he got them into the Top 25 and went 9-3. That's what I'm looking for. He could have us built back up to 10-win seasons in just a couple years.
I wonder if they've been speaking to Brown. Initial reports that came out said our top 3 were Brohn, Fleck and Strong. I've heard Brown's name mentioned but not by anyone tied to UC.
Riley is not longer in the running for Houston.
On 1530 Mo was interviewing a guy that covers OSU. He said he doesn't think Fickell will be a great HC and Cincinnati can do better. Not inspiring words...
Why did Ohio State bring in Schiano this year?
Because they are one of the few programs that are able to. Former NFL head coach. Only a couple programs can make room for a guy like that immediately, and they are one. I don't think the first reason is because they didn't trust Fickell. If you have the capacity as a program to bring in a guy like Schiano, you can't pass that up.
Ok thanks. I just wonder why Schiano has been mentioned for several HC jobs and we're the only ones in on Fickell.
I may cry if we bring in the Fickell/Coombs duo. I'll definitely give that a chance for at least 3 years, but there's so much promise out there in the world of coaching and that just seems so small-time. We'd be Ohio State's JV team.
I'd give it a chance but I'm not huge on Fickell either. What I really don't like about it is it seems like settling vs going out aggressively into the market and brining in a homerun hire. Fickell is no homerun, but I'd take him over Schiano just for his potential alone.
Mike Bohn just doesn't seem like the kind of guy who's going to land the big hire.
