@ChadBrendel
I can say with 100% certainty that Cincinnati has yet to meet with any coaching candidates from the Ohio State staff. #Bearcats

@ChadBrendel
I am told AD Mike Bohn was out of state meeting with a candidate, and was not in Columbus. #Bearcats

^Finally tweets I can trust.

After hearing that OSU guy give a strongly negative opinion on Fickell, I think I'm back to what I originally thought.

I voted for Jason Candle in the original poll (the only person BTW) and I think he would be a good fit. Riley is interesting but he has no ties to Ohio and might just decide to return to Oklahoma (as Mayfield announced he is returning for his senior season). I wouldn't be upset if Riley decided to come here but Candle makes more sense to me.

I had Logan Woodside on my college fantasy team. He had an incredible year.

The odd thing to me (and admittedly I don't have the same connections in Cincinnati as the people who still live there) is that the most buzz I've heard about Fickell and Coombs is coming from the Ohio State side. I have cousins who are huge OSU fans and they want "The Fickell/Coombs Duo" to come to UC. It's really weird though bc then they go on to admit that Coombs has been demoted and they don't care at all if they lose Fickell. It really is like they want UC to be Ohio State Jr. They aren't UC fans. They don't care if UC is good. They just think it'd be cool if UC was a "nice little bridge" between Cincinnati HS football and Ohio State football. It's freaking insulting.

Prediction: We hire Neal Brown tomorrow or Friday.

*I have no inside knowledge. This is just a random guess.

I noticed Chad said Bohn was interviewing candidates out of town and said we haven't interviewed anyone from OSU. Then he retweeted an hours old tweet stating Lincoln Riley was no longer in consideration at Houston.

Maybe he was dropping a hint there, maybe not, but the more I read on Riley the more and more I like him.

Riley would be my #2 choice at this point. Definitely would be thrilled to have him.

2 things with him though: No HC experience and would he go to Texas Tech as soon as they fire Kingsbury?

I like to agree with you but I don't think your college fantasy team will determine our next coach.

Riley was born in Lubbock, played at Texas Tech and started his coaching career there. Kingsbury is a joke. That's a unique situation for Riley. What other coaches we're looking at could have their alma mater opening up within the year? I mean, Satterfield would be leaving his alma mater, so we wouldn't have to worry about that with him.

I would be concerned that Riley may just be the next Kingsburg. I'd still rather take that risk than bring in Strong or Fickell. Candle is still my #1 option. Hopefully we can wrap this all up by tomorrow.

I don't remember which podcast but I heard we need to get it done this week bc of some JUCO recruiting period mext week, followed by a dead period.

I feel like we are behind the 8 ball once again. We should have seen this coming and been proactive. Maybe we could have locked in a good coach that has gone elsewhere.

Several teams have already hired.

How much does geography factor into either our decision or a coaches decision?

I think it's a pretty important factor, especially as it relates to recruiting. The landscape for recruiting is much different depending on what region your school is located in.

Yes. I believe the dead period starts for JUCO guys on December 11th and for HS guys on December 12th. After that there is no recruiting contact allowed until January 11th which is only three weeks before signing day. It is important to have this hire done ASAP.
