Doing Twitter searches on candidates for updates (don't judge me I know you're all doing it too :)). A bunch of people are saying Fickell's record can't be held against him. Why not? He went 6-7 and in the years sandwiched around him Ohio State was 24-1. I get it was a bad situation for him, but why was Urban Meyer able to step right in and go 12-0? Why hasn't Fickell become a HC anywhere in the 5 years since he was the interim?

I was wondering the same thing Jacob?

If Chad is to be believed (and I think he is) and the rest of the lazy media hasn't done anything to change Bohn's mind in the last 24 hours it seems to me like there isn't much to worry about with Fickell.

For the life of me though I have no clue what we're waiting for. We had a list, hopefully we've interviewed people on that list. What's the hold up??

Did everyone on the list fail their interviews and so we're putting together a new list?

I could be wrong but weren't a few of their top players gone or suspended for part of that season? Plus he was kind of thrown onto the fire not really having time to prepare being a HC. Obviously he's not going to be Urban Meyer. But say given actual preparation and a full team that year he wins 2 or 3 of the games they lost, that's not really too bad. I mean all but one loss was by a touchdown or less.

Don't get me wrong though, I'm simply playing devils advocate here and would probably be disappointed if he became out next head coach. Especially if it includes bringing Coombs with him.

I have heard from a high school coach that Fickell was an arrogant jerk during recruiting visits. I can't say names but the player ended up starting for Alabama....

Yeah I know the circumstances were tough. I just can't completely discount it bc it's the only thing we know about him as a HC. The difference between "if a couple games would've gone differently" and the games actually going differently is the difference between Tressel and Meyer, and Fickell imo.

@ChadBrendel
Think I need to clarify something as there seems to be some confusion. I never said anything about UC's interest level in Luke Fickell...

@ChadBrendel
I simply clarified reports about him having an interview and as of yesterday that had not happened. I think he is on the list and in play.

Judging by Twitter and sports media personalities, people are gung ho about this, especially if Coombs comes along. What's the catch?

that they're both clowns and this dumb city is way too obsessed with stupid high school shit

I in no way want Coombs as our HC. But how can you disregard his success just because it was in HS. He ran an option offense, nothing you ever really want at the college level, but his defense was one of the best in Ohio the entire time he was there. We know what he could do for our recruiting, calling him a clown?... really..

I'VE SAID IT BEFORE

Unbelievable! I find it interesting that many of you are cutting on the next coach before he is named/hired. Now since TT is gone, give the next guy some slack. The name of the game is recruiting. That's why Fickell and Combs may be a good combination with their Ohio ties. If TT had a one weakness (I know he had more than one), he didn't know Ohio and he didn't have any assistants that new Ohio. You can't win without the horses.

Whoever the new coach is, I'll give them a minimum of 3 years to get this thing turned around. I quit on Tuberville during year 3 bc I watched him quit the BYU game with over 4 minutes left down 14 with the ball and all of our timeouts. One thing about Fickell is I highly doubt he'd quit on a game like that.

Do you think you get an interview with FAU?

Who's cutting on the next coach? We don't have a next coach yet so what are you even talking about? Are people not allowed to share comments both negative and positive on perspective coaching candidates on a UC Football message board?

I really don't understand your perspective on any of this.
