Has coaching become secondary?

Schools had 3 reasons to publicly deny recruiting Lance:

1.) He had a pending legal charge and if something bad came of it, they wouldn't want to look bad too.

2.) They didn't want to look bad if he didn't choose them.

3.) He had already told a school no and they wanted to look like a coach who had withdrawn interest in another job when in reality that position had been denied to him.

And in UC's case, its become really clear that our staff likes to be really quiet when they recruit Lance. CLEARLY, the source close to our progoram lied in early April. We were obviously recruiting Lance, just like other programs lied as well. That is how the recruiting process works.

Please... Your basing your whole argument on personal thoughts. By this logic, I was recruited to UK, Duke, North Carolina and Kansas. No one said much about it but its true. I turned down all those schools because I had better things to do with my life. Get some facts, otherwise your argument has no backing.

Let me guess these "unnamed schools" also told lance to tell everyone that he was considering Europe or Pro teams in states because options where limited. Ya, makes perfect sense.

AHAHHA I'm sorry but that is absurd!

If anything I would assume that having a big-time recruit interested in your program would help the overall picture. Not only can you use it as leverage for other recruits, but also it gets your program national recognition!

Therefor you most definitely would make it public.

I can think of at least fifteen other UC topics worth our energy discussing.

Question, does anyone think Mick has lost his edge because someone has found/taken his pot of gold? I mean seriously, with St Pattys day being pretty recent and there being a high demand for pots of gold, I think the likliehood hood of this is fairly high. Discuss.

Truth, come back when Xavier wins the NCAA Tourney, UC has already won 2.

No one cares about losing in the Sweet 16's, Elite 8's, Final 4's, etc., all that means is you lost.

Were you born in 1960 and 1961? Championships mean nothing to me 50 years ago when I was decades away from being alive. Why don't we talk about the current state of each program. Xavier is currently turning into a national power house while UC is becoming (already is?) the doormat of the Big East. Xavier has not won a national championship and the program is still far away from being a national powerhouse but our program is trending up.

Wrong. I was very much alive and watched on TV (black and white) as my beloved UC Bearcats won the National Championship in 1961 and 1962 over the Buckeyes.

They very much count, you can see the banners and the team pictures in 5/3 Arena. Getting into the NCAA Tourney is no big deal anymore, especially starting next year when the field is expanded to 96, the only thing that matters is winning it, which UC has won twice. Xavier is nothing close to a national powerhouse and never will be. Xavier was, is, and will always be, the number 2 team in the City of Cincinnati. Sort of like Chicago where the Cubs will always be # 1 White Sox # 2 and New York where the Yankees will always be # 1 and the Mets # 2. Have fun winning in the A-10, too bad XU will never be in a real conference.

I got you Ralph.

Xavier is a stepping stone to big-time college basketball! Have fun with that. Your coaches come and go.

Go Cats

Great point, our coaches come and go and we are still elite. Our program is stronger than any one coach unlike UC. UC is nothing without Huggs.

What was I wrong about? Did I say you were not born in 1960 or did I ask if you were?

And I have to agree with you about XU being number 2 in the city. I saw a billboard that says this is UC's city. If it is on a billboard its got to be true.

Recruiting has always been more important than coaching. If you have the best players you are going to win a lot. If you put lousy players with the greatest coach who ever was you are still going to lose. Tom Creen was a great Final 4 coach when he had Dwayne Wade at Marquette, he is not winning a lot at Indiana with the worst overall talent in the Big 10.
Wrong again mr 1950
I guess that explains why Kelly won and Dantonia didn't. I guess thats why Huggins won and Yates didn't. Hello Mcfly!

All is correct. Dantonio won, he got the ball rolling, he did such a good job he was hired by Michigan State. Kelly built off of Dantonio's recruits. Most of the Orange Bowl and Sugar Bowl starters were recruited by Dantonio. Kelly is a great coach but if he did not have good players he would not have won much of anything.

It is UC's city, absolutely. XU has about 10,000 very loyal fans and that is about it. UC has 5,000 loyal fans and 450,000 bandwagon jumpers who love them when they win. No one jumps on XU's bandwagon because no one cares.

When I was in New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl I asked the locals where
Xavier U was located, they said "right here in New Orleans". I asked them where the University of Cincinnati was located and they said "Cincinnati, Ohio". The vast majority of people outside of the Cincinnati area have no clue in what city your XU is located.

UC is in a down cycle right now, as Huggins/Kennedy leaving killed the recruiting classes for 4 years. MC is doing a decent job, and the wins are improving (the performance may be another matter).
Teams like USC, Texas, Oklahoma all had long droughts in football, yet are back near/at the top. While Xavier has done a good job being consistently good for awhile, there is no reason why UC can't be successful in the 'near' future.
Throwing jabs when a team is down may be fun, but I would just thank the Lord your team wasn't put in the same position as ours.
Stay classy X.

"stay classy" implies they had some class to begin with, which is very debatable.

This has been my contention all along. I don't know why they televise XU home basketball games, because anyone who would be interested in watching them is already at the Cintas Center. XU basketball can not have much more success than it has experienced the last 20 years, and nobody but their immediate family cares. Maybe, that explains why XU fan is so insecure. Or, perhaps they are all lonely little guys with self esteem issues.

Why don't you worry about Whiny Mcbaldwimp and get the f*** out.
