How do you feel about this season? 2016-17

This was a great season. This team deserved better than to be asked to beat UCLA, in California no less, to make the sweet sixteen. Plain and simple. We can gripe all we want about what we didn't accomplish, but we went 16-2 in the conference. Ask anybody before the season starts if they'd take that and be happy and they would. SMU was a better team, especially as a match up for us and had a better year. I can't blame these players for that. Had SMU not sold their soul to Larry Brown and gotten busted immediately for multiple violations SMU would be nobody. Sad they still are benefitting from his cheating but good for the league I suppose. But that's a separate issue. Not making the sweet sixteen sucks, but UCLA was misranked as were we. Being asked to beat a top five, maybe top three team to declare yourself one of the best sixteen simply isn't right. This team deserved better. The mick haters will find reason to hate on the results but reality is this team played well, played hard and outside of a bad night against UCF and coming out flat in the conference tourney final, they were great every night. It made me sick to see the draw we got and will leave a bad taste in my mouth for awhile. They thoroughly dominated KSTATE and that's what I'll hang my hat on this year. They weren't going to beat UCLA and honestly shouldn't be expected to. Hopefully we get there soon, but based on reality and where we sit now, we're not on their level and I don't blame mick or the players for losing to them. They gave them their best effort and fell short. That's all you can ask.

As far as next year, I think we'll miss troy and KJ more than some people realize. Cane brings a different dimension, but I'll need to see him play team ball before I buy the hype. And defensively we take a hit. I'm excited about Cumberland getting real minutes. He needs to sure up his team defense. Washington needs to be better defensively and Evans needs to get stronger and be more agressive. He got beat a few times early in the year trying to make a play and lost his confidence to put the ball on the floor. He has to shake that. He's too good to be a jump shooter. Next year's team has a chance to be good but a lot of that hinges on having a pg that can get the team going. Clark, Washington, Evans and Cumberland will need to be given the ball to score. If cane is always looking for his own shot, we'll see JJ in there. Honestly I'd love to see what JJ could do running that team. He's too quick to be a half court guy though. Team needs to adjust (will Mick allow it). But pg, pg, pg is the only real question mark next year. That and how much does our defense drop off. Mick can teach that at least. Will be exciting for sure.

I personally value a regular season over a single elimination tourney. But with Cronin, I don't think most fans have given him that credit.

I do think our conference sucks BUT I don't think next year will be any where close to as bad as this year. I think we're a 4 or 5 bid league

I think you should, as well as most fans and even recruits. Kids would rather go to a school that is playing on ESPN from Nov-Feb with a number by their name and a big home crowd, rather than a school that they haven't seen on TV till March and got hot for a couple weeks.

If UC losing gets you excited, it might be time to have a think about your future as a fan. It's just not worth it if that's the feeling you have. I used to love the Bengals. I don't anymore. I'll be happy if they're good, but they simply aren't worth the stress. Being a sports fan is supposed to be fun. If you can honestly look back at this basketball season and take away zero positives, maybe take a step back and decide if the disappointment you feel is worth losing years off of your life over. Spoiler: It's not. We have no control over this stuff. I'll take the word of the fans who lived through the 80s...it can be WAY worse. Going 30-6 is so far from being considered unacceptable it's laughable. So again, if you have your panties all twisted in a bunch today, take a step back and think about why you became a fan in the first place.

When is this world going to figure out that Mick just can't coach good enough to get his team to the next level! Game plan get Troy and Kyle the ball and we win. That would only be the case if we were playing bumbs! Troy is to slow and Kyle plays no defense and can only score in the AAC!

Does Troy have a shot at the NBA?

Well Evans refused to shoot, and Johnson and Cumberland each had spurts where they carried the team. Seemed like Coach was willing to put it on other people besides Caupain and Washington when it was evident that they didn't have enough to help us. Not sure what else you expect to do vs UCLA. I just saw that Rothstein wrote an article saying Lonzo Ball is a once in every 2 or 3 decade talent. And no Caupain won't make the NBA. So again, not sure what you realistically expected.

It depends a little on the context for me. Just by itself, this was a quality team. A top 25 team with top 25 results. No issues off the court, national relevant and fun. A bunch of seasons like that make a great program.

Now the downside. I can't shake the feeling that our roster was setup this season. If not now, when? When will we break through to be "contending to win it all" good rather than an interesting S16 candidate. It was a bit of a downer to possibly see the ceiling and realize it's not all that high.

You could add all three of our seniors will walk on graduation day. As a father of a student athlete who knows what goes into both playing and studying I am thrilled for these young man. Quite an accomplishment!!!

This past year was a lot of fun and highly successful. The group of players were so much fun to watch on and off the court. I think next year can be even more successful but we'll need some luck to have another injury free year. One torn ACL to a starter could be devastating to this team. Health can never be taken for granted in athletics.

It's possible, but I wouldn't bet on it myself. Even if yr1 Broome is a wash with year4 Troy, we still need to replace KJ with a frosh. The stadium situation also worries me. We have been home court heroes for a while now and I wonder where the big wins come from if we can't count on a huge home court advantage next year.

KJ is replaced by Cumberland, big upgrade on offense, downgrade on defense.

Who knows how Keith Williams or Trevor Moore could step into the 6th man role.

If we are just talking when will we make a tournament run, you never know. It's random. Last year Xavier was great and lost, this year they barely made it in and killed both teams they played. Duke had 9 all Americans and lost. We all are wondering when it's our turn to make a run but who knows. All we can do is keep improving and maybe one year we can. It does get old though

In our position, with the league, if we can't get great OOC games (which it doesn't look like we can) and win them, we are going to have to make a run being a lower seed. And that's a lot harder to do
