Color analysts:

1. Jay Bilas - Never sugar coats it. Calls it fair. Does his prep work and typically knows all the players and their strengths/weaknesses.

--- I could EASILY stop here, because the rest are "ehhh" type analysts.---

2. Gottlieb - I really don't have a #2, but Gottlieb beats out Doris and Bob because he doesn't sugar coat stuff either. While somewhat self-absorbed, he holds guys accountable and has good knowledge of the game.

3. Doris - Good knowledge. Horrendous voice. Too forgiving of errors, IMO.

4. Knight - Positivies include overall hardknock attitude and team play concept. Really dislikes Eggsaviers guards. :) Negatives include: misidentifies players and states the freaking obvious all the time.

Doris is def one of the top 5 cbb analysts out there right now. Im sure some of her detractors may think shes only on tv, bc "they need a woman analyst doing some games" but if they give her a chance and listen shes one of the few that if im flipping around and its two non interesting/boring teams playing but shes doing the game, then I'll stop and watch/listen. She doesnt have the best made for tv voice, but the in game quality of analysis she gives is really top notch. Was an absolute joke that one night im flipping around and saw her being wasted as a sideline reporter for an NBA game a couple times.

My own list, Id put her in the top 3.

1. Bilas
2. Gottleib
3. Doris

Great list. Bilas is far and away #1. Gottlieb knows what he is talking about- unfortunately, his attitude, image, past mishaps and smirk turn a lot of people away. Personally, i think he brings a lot to the table and doesn't shy away from saying what he thinks. Burke is great too- I am guilty of writing her off because she was a woman off the get go- but she definitely is one of the best. Clark Kellogg is good on cbs, and another guy who really does his homework before broadcasts is Fran Fraschilla- you can tell by listening to him he consumes film before doing a game.

I enjoy Knight because I feel like I learn from him from an X's and O's standpoint each time. Unfortunately, however, he has lost touch with the game a bit. He doesn't want to accept the college game for what it is in the modern era, and like it or not- the game is a lot different than it was in the 70's, 80's, and even mid 90's. His stubbornness to accept this really detracts from his ability in my opinion. Also, he really seems like he doesn't do any preparation for games, unless he is doing a Duke game.

BA, I thought you'd back my call for Hannah and Erin....

I forgot Fran. Good call. I enjoy him too.

Knight always gets players names wrong. Gottlieb has a major bias in most cases toward certain schools. I like Fran as well. Jay is by far and away the best and most objective.

Ok guys, who are your top play by play guys (college hoops only)?

1. Gus Johnson - I love his excitement and enthusiasm. He could make an A-10 conference game exciting.

2. Dan Hoard - I think UC is extremely lucky to have Dan do the games. He does his homework, is knowledgable and has a great voice.

3. Dan Shulman - While he does games with the sometimes impossible to listen to, Dickie V, Dan does a tremendous job.

4. Sean McDonough - He is top notch when doing ESPN's Big Monday broadcasts with Jay Bilas and Bill Raftery

UC is EXTEREMELY lucky to have Dan Hoard. The fact that someone bigger hasn't scooped him up baffles me.
