Cincinnati transfer Jermaine Lawrence down to Iona, Hofstra and Manhattan. St. John's is out, per source.

St. John's is now out and Lawrence is down to

Iona
Manhattan
Hofstra

Per zags

Hofstra has to be it. Speedy Claxton is an asst coach there. If JL really does wanna be a SF/shooter then that's a good guy to work with. He could really help Jermaine with his footwork and release, especially on his rhythm jumpers. He always did tat weird little kick thing last year and that definitely needs to get fixed.

Would going to a smaller school help his case for a hardship waiver?

Will it help him period. He needed to tough it out at UC. Red shirt next year, after that in two years 20 pounds later he would be ready for the NBA. Not trying to slam him but he is going to re-live his glory high school days.

i dont think thats fair say he goes to manhatten they went life and death with louisville in ncaa. All division one in that part country is played at high level

I think he was more getting at the level of competition. Yes its D-I level but ultimately there is huge size difference and talent disparities with the guys he will be facing game after game.

Perhaps he just prefers a smaller school experience closer to home. Nothing wrong with that. He averaged 13 and 7 as a high school senior and played less than half a season. Not sure how he got the 5 star rating. Any mention of his name with the NBA really isn't warranted. He's not shown or even flashed any part of a skill set that points in that direction. He's really hasn't played that much basketball the last three years and what he showed last year was that he was really overmatched even against weaker, non conference opponents. He also really needs to hit the weight room. If he has to sit out another year, i really wonder if that hurts or helps him. It seems like he's really trying to find himself.

I totally agree with this. We shouldn't be so quick to criticize JL, just take a look at Gunner Kiel and his journey that led him to UC. He had an awful lot of stops before finding himself and realizing where he wanted to be. Perhaps that is what JL is searching for too.

Its all about 5* invite only camps. He dominated at the majority of them his soph and Jr yrs in high school. High school stats really don't determine the recruit, coaches want to see you play the best of the best. He was 5* in best high school class in years.

who transfers when they have green light on team? Gunner wasn't going to play, JL was going get most touches on.team.

at the same time. There are a good amount of recruits that are highly recruited their freshmen and sophomore year and then the competition gets better around them and they stay the same. Donno if this is the case as he had a pretty small sample size this year, but just throwing that out there

I think he means it's more bout being mature enough to handle the pressure of the high D-1 level. It isn't for everyone, and some just take longer or need to be in a more comfortable place. On paper, yeah maybe he would get the most touches. But the fact that he was even thinking about leaving tells us there's no way he was going to be able to handle that next year.
Plus, Gunner had a chance to go back to ND after Golson got suspended. So he would've had a chance to play, but it just wasn't the right fit.

Just saying, the number of stars don't always equate to success at next level. It was quite clear to anyone who follows the Cats that he wasnt even close to being the best freshman on his team. Less than 3 points and 3 rebounds will easily be surpassed by multiple recruits coming in.

his dream I'm sure is to play in the NBA. He has made his path more difficult.

Not sure you can say that. Mick hasn't exactly been pumping people into the NBA. We might see Lawrence as a lot more confident player at a small school close to home. And we may never have been able to see that here. Too early to say imo.

True....not a single player in 8 seasons. Can't give him credit for Lance since he was only here 1 year and he was "Born Ready" for the NBA.
