Jermaine Lawrence asks for release

Let me reiterate:

Xavier and Cincinnati players are never going to transfer to the opposite school

Martin is not coming here and Lawrence is not going to that worthless mid major.

It's simply not going to happen.

Tweet from Lance McAlister: I'm trying to recall one thing that Jermaine Lawrence did on the court this past season that left an impression. #Bearcats

This just seems very unprofessional to me. We are talking about a young man who gave a commitment and moved away from home to pursue his dream here. It isn't like he's a pro athlete getting paid millions as a free agent signing. Sometimes it doesn't work out. I'm sure this wasn't an easy decision for Jermaine and his family and no one is more upset about this year than him. If he wants to move closer to home to get a fresh start, I wish him luck. And based on everything I've read and heard Mick say, he's a great kid. So I think that in itself leaves an impression.

Jermaine Lawrence leaving Cincinnati is a surprise. Kid can really play. UK had some interest as HS player. They could now again. We'll see

@GregNJ Jermaine is a great kid, but you don't want the mess that hovers over that situation.

When has Lance McAlister ever showed professionalism?

I'm honestly not sure I don't listen to him and am out of the state. Its just funny seeing the Kansas people for example, rave about Andrew White and wish him luck and send him off with class, then this clown McAlister just comes off as bitter and classless. Embarrassing representation.

Lawrence had great potential. He had a tough year. But I expected him to show up big this year and the following.

This is a loss for sure and I will miss him being a Bearcat.

Lance Mcallister only stays around because he stirs up crap. He is worthless.

It's just like the idiotic, scorned reactions you get from fans after losing a recruiting battle. Hopefully things work out for the best for Jermaine. He has a ton of talent. I hate to see him go if for no other reason than it continues to build the narrative that highly rated players shouldn't consider coming here.

Not a good 24 hours for the program, IMHO. What were the final two scholarships were filled by players that were originally kicked off of their teams and now we lose a potential starter and the highest rated recruit in a number of years.

McAllister is horrible and arrogant. Like someone said, he is never, ever wrong. I will not listen to him or Mo anymore.
This does suck about Lawrence, was looking forward to seeing him next year, but if he doesn't want to be here, we will get someone that does.

This program is turning into a joke! Kick a kid off then bring him back the next year(next time I hear someone say Mick backed off someone because of off court issues I'm going to lose it!) Lose our highest rated recruit in years after one year...and some think it's no big deal because Ellis is coming back. The only way this makes UC better is if they get in another night club brawl. Can't score 60 points a game with an All-American and two seniors. Getting beat out time and time again on recruits, and the one he does land wants to leave after a year. Two straight one and done trips to the dance, with one loss to basketball powerhouse Harvard.

What a mess!

Truly don't understand the excitement for Ellis.

Truly don't understand the disappointment for Lawrence. 5 stars does not make you good.

I agree about the off court/character issues stuff. We had such a great season and this whole spring has really been a confusing mess. I'm willing to stick it out to see how we round this class out. But I'm more concerned about next year now than I was 2 months ago.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, it is hard to tell which recruits will pan out and which won't. Think about how Louisville landed 5 star recruit Wayne Blackshear and 5 star recruit Chane Behanan but the 3 of the best players on last years team were Russ Smith (2 star only offer was Manhattan), Montrezl Harrell (3/4 star committed to Vtech) and Luke Hancock (2 star transfer from GMU).

Let's wait until the season gets into full swing before we declare a class a bust. I am actually quite happy Ellis is back, many thought he was really good in practice during his redshirt year. I think he can be a legit high major starter.

Absolutely incorrect.

The bearcats are a solid team top to bottom. They will get consistent offense this year & won't be reliant on 1 individual player. That will make them very dangerous in march/april

If forward Jermaine Lawrence is serious about transferring away from Cincinnati, he might want to consider letting the Bearcats know.

Scout.com analyst Evan Daniels reported Friday that Lawrence had requested a release from Cincinnati, but a source close to the Bearcats told Sporting News that such a request had yet to reach the basketball office.

Seems like it is quite likely he'll leave, guess it isn't just official yet. Who knows, maybe he is able to salvage the situation after talking with the staff...

Very good points. This could be a big opportunity for Clark as well. I hope he's getting himself prepared.

Yes seems like he will leave. The timing is interesting especially if the staff didn't know he was leaving and still took Ellis.

On another board someone brought up that someone in JL's inner circle doesn't agree with the way Cronin motivates/coaches. Apparently there was a tweet from his account during the UConn game in Memphis criticizing Cronin that was later deleted.

That makes sense. Remember when Adam Zagoria was ripping his handlers when he committed to Cincinnati? A lot of UC fans tried to play it off as him being mad that Lawrence didn't stay in the NYC/NJ region.

Seems like there may have been truth to what he said...

I think some of our fans are turning into a joke. Why don't we wait until all the details come out before we overreact?

I don't see anything wrong with giving a kid a shot at redemption as long as he's behaved pretty well in the mean time. Perhaps that was a condition of ever coming back who knows?

As for Lawrence it doesn't seem like anyone knows why he wants to leave just yet. Could be just about anything.

Calm down...let's wait for some details before we blow our stacks

I do remember that. The reason I heard in addition to what you said is that Zagoria wanted to break the news and Lawrence did it himself. Does now seem to be some truth there.
