Jermaine Lawrence asks for release

I guess I'm in the minority but I saw tough D and rebounding down low for Lawrence, who was playing out of position. On offense I agree he didn't show much.

Hard to imagine he'll be able to put it all together with now 4 years of limited meaningful game time. Wish him the best.

Lance is, and always will be, a joke. How's Butler doing without Brad Stevens, Lance?

I agree. I thought he showed some flashes of why he was highly touted. Unfortunately the stat sheet is what alot of fans like to look at and if you don't fill it then you are worthless/expandable.

Based on the fact that Lawrence did absolutely nothing impressive during the year...I know that seems to be a matter of opinion...but he didnt look anything like a top recruit last year. He did not seem aggressive...and sometimes he did not seem tonme to look lime he knew what to do on a basketball court....out of position or not.[/QUOTE

So that makes Ellis good? ....

Ellis has been doing pretty well in Juco no? I don't think we are brining in a slouch. let's face it...it wouldn't be hard to match the numbers from Lawrence last year (no disrespect).

Rothstein is in Cincinnati visiting both UC and XU. He stated that the staff still hasn't heard about the release. Maybe they are going to sit on it this weekend and then officially decide? Or his "inner circle" might just be incompetent?

Absolutely agree with you. I loved his tenacity rebounding and saw great improvement in his defense as the year progressed. He had pretty good form on his shot, but he didn't knock down a lot. I think he would have been a real player this year. Huge disappointment for me. Recruiting in general is a big disappointment. And, when you start losing your best recruits after one season, that just adds to the misery.

He never said that makes Ellis good... he is saying that Lawrence did not really provide a lot for us last year, and he is saying he believes Ellis will just be better and provide a lot more for us than Lawrence would have. He never said it made Ellis good... Basically just saying he will look good and a lot better compared to Lawrence, just from what we saw last season.

False. Constantly out of position on defense. Awful hands. Weak. No motor.

I thought he made some strides prior to his foot injury. When he came back he looked lost. He needs more court time to develop. A year off could be pretty detrimental. Best of luck to him where ever he lands.

One thing we know about Ellis is that he's going to have motor with toughness

And if I were him id be working extra extra hard. He is starting the year as. The player that got kicked off the team. So he knows coming in some fans might be hard on him. That takes some big guts to come back to the program. Now I just hope he uses it all as fuel to win his name back in good light on and off the floor

Lawrence

Lawrence seemed lost all year. Played soft and with no attitude. A lot of freshman have 2-3 games throughout the year where they "break out" and score 12-15 points. I don't think I saw that. The world is full of freshmen averaging 3 points a game. Not seeing a top 25 player here. (Injury or no injury)

What happens if we refuse to release him? What would his options be?

I think we should all wait to make any opinions known until this becomes official. The basketball department has yet to hear from Jermaine on this issue.

absolutely Jason. The fact that it is taking so long to notify AD leads me to believe there must be some difference of opinion among Lawrence and his people. Sounds like someone is trying to convince him or those around him that he is being handled wrong. The fact that nothing has been made official could mean JL isn't quite sure or someone close to him isn't convinced.

I don't know how all this works but could it be that the paperwork has been filed and it hasn't been processed to the point it would make it to the AD or Cronin? If it has been filed I am sure they are aware of it even if they say they haven't seen the paperwork yet. Could be political speak.

Adam Zagoria @AdamZagoria: Talked to a few people on the Jermaine Lawrence situation. Several high-major schools are calling & he could end up close to home.

So, he either got his release, or schools are calling him or his advisors before he's officially released?

Don't lose any sleep on waiting. He's good as gone my friend. Just let it happen.
