Jerry Palm Still Has 11 Big East Teams In

I don't buy anything the guy has said this season. Maybe in another year they don't make it, but just look at the first 4 out and tell me a team with the quality of wins Cincinnati has.

This is also the guy who said we would be a fringe tourney team with 12 BEAST wins. He is clueless, how he has a job doing this for a living irritates the piss out of me!

UC and Mar excerpts

"Good to go

Cincinnati (23-7, 10-7 Big East; RPI: 36, SOS: 83): The Bearcats got an impressive and crucial win at Marquette Wednesday night that should ensure they make the field of 68. They've more than held their own in the nation's best conference, and during their very weak nonconference schedule nabbed a win over Xavier that keeps looking better. This isn't a season where going 10-8 in the Big East will keep a team out, especially with big road wins at Georgetown and St. John's."

"Marquette (18-12, 9-8 Big East; RPI: 57, SOS: 28): The Golden Eagles took a step back by losing at home to fellow bubble competitor Cincinnati on Wednesday. Now they need to win at Seton Hall on the weekend to finish above .500 in the league. There are no bad losses here, so as long as Marquette can avoid one down the stretch, it probably will be OK. The 4-11 mark against the RPI top 50 is actually all against the top 36. Marquette may not be able to beat teams that are second-round or better quality, but that's not a selection metric."

also need to keep in mind Glockner is an Marquette grad (not joking, dead serious).

Palm is a Purdue graduate and a B10 homer. Therefore it pains him to compliment UC and the Big East in general.

I have to give it to him though after his boneheaded comments earlier in the year he's had UC in a better seed than Lunardi for a while now. When looking at UC's computer numbers today, btw, it's painfully evident they need the win Saturday against Georgetown to boost the computer profile some more and push them (for sure) out of the 8/9 matchup.

I don't think they are anywhere near the 8/9 line. I think their profile right now is at least worthy of a 7 and any damage they do in the Big East Tourney will only elevate them. I have a feeling, if UC wins at least one more game, they will be a 6 seed.

They could possibly play their way into a 5 seed with a BE Tournament run. Win Sunday and win 2 next week and you have 26 wins. They need to take care of business Saturday though. Live-rpi has them projected as a 5 seed.

I agree but my scenario is IF they were to lose to Georgetown Saturday. If they take care of business the lowest they can possibly be is a 7... but if they lose all bets are off and they'd have to do some damage in the BET, imo.

Ultimately I predict they end up with a 6 seed.

According to Bill Koch at the Enquirer Joe Lunardi has UC as a 6 seed now with the win vs. Marquette. They haven't updated his bracket on ESPN yet. I believe they will do so tomorrow.

That's about right. I feel this team has earned a 6 seed thus far. They have more top 25 RPI wins than nearly all of the teams in the country not in the Big East. It's pretty impressive when you think about it, especially when you look at the road wins this team has had lately.

As of today Palm has us as a 6 seed playing 11 seed St. Mary's in round one with a potential matchup with North Carolina in round two.

Lunardi is updating his bracketology every day this week. Today he still has UC as a 7 seed- this time playing Tennessee in Denver- with a potential second round matchup with BYU.

Today Palm has UC a 6 facing Michigan in Round one in Washington D.C. Potential second round matchup with North Carolina.
