Kick Out St. Johns and Depaul

Here is why it won't happen.

There is a conference ballance that exists of 8 basketball only and 8 basketball and football schools. This balance is there so when the votes come up the football schools don't sacrifice basketball's best interest for football's best interest. Due to this the basketball schools wouldn't even consider bringing in another football team without equaling that in basketball.

So unless the Big East splits in half then Big East football schools are screwed.

The Big East as we know it today is toast in my opinion. Football is king and the Big East has given non-football playing schools too much power. Because of this, the Big East will always be reacting instead of being proactive.

I have a feeling the BE schools will split in some form from the non-football schools here very shortly. It will come in either the following forms:

a) BE football and basketball splits, BE adds the B12 remnants but remain in an alliance with the BE basketball schools to play games and share B12 network.
b) BE football splits and form a new B12 with the B12 remnants. No alliance with basketball schools. Basketball becomes A-10 on steroids.
c) BE football schools leaves BE all together and form new ACC 16 team division. BE basketball becomes new A-10 on steroids.

I don't see the Big East absorbing teams like Baylor or Iowa State. They do nothing for the league. From a football perspective, neither do Kansas or Kansas St. They'll have a good year every once in a while but they were not Big 12 football powers. If the Big East splits, they may look to Kansas and Kansas St. just to be able to get the numbers up. I think in this case, the Big East would look at Memphis and either UCF or ECU to get to 12 members.

More than likely, the Big 11 and SEC make moves to get to 16 teams and if the SEC does that, they will raid the ACC. Cincinnati would be a likely invitee to the ACC and honestly, I think it would be a good thing for UC.

Baylor and Iowa State would add to the academic profile of the conference (AAU schools) and I would imagine the Kansas schools would want at least 1Iowa State in the loop since they are so close geographically.

Baylor might be out, but the more I think of it, the Kansas schools along with Missouri recuit a lot of Texas kids. I think if there is a shot of adding them they will want a school or two from Texas to play with so they can continue poaching that neck of the woods.

Unfortunately, academics will play little part in this no matter what the talking heads say. It is all about money and the Big East schools are not going to want to travel to Texas to play Baylor. It would be different if it was Texas. Iowa State is gonna get screwed in this realignment.

We went to North Texas for years. I am not saying Baylor is a must but geographics wont be as huge as some think IMO.

I think having the Texas recruiting market open to them a little more would potentially be enticing to some Big East teams.

Add Kansas and K-state.

WHy the hell not?

I think the Big East might be smart to go after some B12 teams, especially if/when more leave. As far as kicking out DePaul and St.Johns, I would kick out Marquette before St. John's. St. Johns fits so well geographically and it's awesome to have games at MSG. I'm sure the tourney could still stay there, but I like having regular season games there as well. Honestly you might not have to kick out anyone if one or more of Rutgers/Syracuse/Pittsburgh leave.
