Funny. I don't think it's true or intended that way. He's been a friend of the family member for quite some time. Before I was born. Don't believe he feels that way at all. But hey keep preaching fire MICK. It should get you far.

That story is 100% true.....so take it for it's worth to you, that's fine.

In the mean time I will keep preaching, you keep supporting mediocrity, Mick's already proven that he won't get you too far.

I completely agree. Our defense still has so many holes. It was really poor last night. Majority of Memphis's 3's were wide open. I just don't understand why we constantly look like we are scrambling around and out of position. Why is our defense such an issue when we have all returning players from last year except for 1 or 2 guys?

Memphis made a lot of tough shots also. Late in the shot clock. Memphis has pretty good players.

I really wouldn't take much away from this game in terms of an increase in pace. Cincinnati has played this style against Memphis in all three home games since we became conference mates again. We won 97-84, 77-65 and 76-72. We have always done a good job of playing an uptempo game against teams that like to push the pace. We have yet to force an uptempo game against any other type of team. Look at our home scores this season since December: 87, 75, 79, 70, 76, 70, 76. That is an average of 76 points per game. However away from home we haven't scored 70 points since the Bowling Green game in December. Since then, here are our point totals away from home: 65, 61, 55, 69, 57, 54, 65. That is an average of 61 points per game. I have no faith in us being able to put together a good offensive game away from home because there hasn't been any evidence of it.

I worry about us away from home too. It's just a different team.

I support whatever path leads us out of the "MID-MAJOR" or mediocre brand/image that we have today. The head coach has flat-lined or some would say the trend is down since the sweet 16. The same thought process that we had with Rick Minter, should be used in this situation. I was against that decision, but it ended up being one of the best ones this administration ever made for our football program. The basketball program should be handled the same way.

can we at least direct all this shit to a specific cronin/state of/future of the program thread? there's no point rehashing the same things over and over again all over the place.

hey we looked pretty good last night - the guys must have ignored that steaming shitpile coach!

hey we looked pretty good last night - guess you cronin haters can eat shit!

it all buries the actual discussion of the game.

i'm not sure that the tape review would bear this out.

i believe they had 3 or 4 wide open looks from the outside. i know we had at least 2 (cobb corner, kj long rebound). to a certain extent, there are almost always going to be at least a couple breakdowns in any given game. i think we've actually been pretty good on our rotations recently. we flubbed a few inside rotations early last night, but outside of those and the few looks from outside, it was generally solid, tough defense, and a terrible shooting team was draining well-contested shots.

i think what you see as a mad scramble is actually the coordinated match-up zone pass-offs, and i don't think it results in nearly as many clean looks as it may sometimes feel like.

Kenpom is good if you know what you're looking at. The advantage of that site is that it does a nice job of taking the opponent noise out of the numbers. Yes, teams like Pitt will still break it early in the season by dominating garbage so efficiently, but on the whole it's not an easy system to game and not many would care to try. You can get a good feel for how and where teams beat you by looking at those numbers.

1 thing I like about the Memphis game is we are usually good aren't affected by athletic players. Being long and jumping high isn't really a big factor against us historically while some teams can't hang athletically with Memphis. My main concern is that Lawson can really score even against good defense and we have had trouble shutting down top scoring threats. Lawson can get his similar to DeCosey without being open. I think Memphis needs 20+ from someone to beat us.

Thanks so much!

Can you please tone down the language?

I completely agree. It's no so much that I support Cronin like he's a Godfather it's more of I'm sick of the bashing of him after every play and every game. Just talk about it somewhere else.

I believe that's why they created the ignore feature....which everyone is free to use. All opinions should be welcome, if you don't like or agree with them feel free to utilize the ignore feature or choose not to respond.

Some of you guys need to either start Reporting posts or using your Ignore feature. Constantly derailing threads is against the rules...so you can Report that if you think someone is doing it. Complaining about people in the thread itself does not help. And it is actually detailing a thread too, whether you mean it to be or not. So continuing to do that will result in you yourself getting a warning. No reason why it should have to come to that. Please read the forum rules and Report or Ignore. Last time I'm going to say it.

***Only posts about the Memphis game in this thread from here on out***

What game were you watching? I saw our players scramble around, out of position and give up good looks from 3. I also saw them standing flat footer watching the Memphis player with the ball and get schooled on cuts to the basket.

One was a drive where he got it stripped. And I think the other was maybe the pass downlow that ended being swiped and then fell in clarks hands for a half second. Then Clark and a Memphis player fell to the ground and Clark got a foul phantom foul.

That ref just called that foul bc it looked weird. He didn't even take into consideration whether Clark was actually making contact with the Memphis guy or not. One of those "automatic" calls that I can't stand.

Totally agree with you on that. I was completely ecstatic when the refs started calling all the hand checking they were doing on Caupain. That helped us down the stretch. That was going on all game but least they decided to call it down the stretch.

I'll say this again as I said before, Memphis has good players. Probably better than most of ours. Get it

Yeah they have good players but what does that have to do with us being out of position, standing flat footed, getting beat on cuts?

I don't think our D was stellar by any stretch but it was not awful. My point is the have a great deal of speed on the whole team. They have good players who make plays. Like the shot they hit at the end of the half I believe. Faked Caupain at the 3, then Ellis, and proceeded to make a very tough shot. Good players.
