Head Coach @CoachCroninUC alongside Bearcats Shaq Thomas and Troy Caupain speak with media after a 76-72 victory https://t.co/x9glyw8iOz

Thanks for that Jacob. It's hard to equate what Mick is saying about beating the defense down the court and pushing the pace, with what we have seen most of the year. It's almost like he's telling them to run and the players are just not doing it, or maybe instead of linking all the players into this statement, it could just primarily be Caupain. I saw Cobb get a rebound last night and instead of turning and getting out in transition, he turned the opposite way and went toward the opponents basket and let everyone clear out down the floor before he turned and finally slowly advanced up court. But, Caupain was noticeably throwing some longer passes down court in transition last night....a lot more than usual. So maybe we're finally seeing a positive change occurring. It's still mind-boggling how when we push the pase and play faster, that the defense gets noticeably worse. Playing faster on offense should have no effect on defense, unless running so much on offense is getting them more fatigued and affecting the quality of their defense.

I still think we should be beating teams like Memphis and Houston by bigger margins at home, and I think it is the defense that's causing that. It's a lot of the same guys who we thought were really good defensively last year, so it doesn't make sense.

More then evident Coach got in the ear of Shaq and TC before the game and told them to relax and be aggressive. Can not remember TC or Shaq looking to score as much as they did last night. Didn't hurt to have some legends at the game who probably reinforced the message. I hope part of the message was we can run up tempo but we still have to guard. You won't beat god teams just trying to outscore everyone. KMart made his mark early in his career playing defense and rebounding. Loved how he dared people to drive the lane. Him and Hicks covered up a bunch of mistakes by our guards. It was nice to see Ellis and Clark swatting some shots last night. If our guards can start playing with that kind of edge we can win some games.

Very, very proud of the effort Troy gave tonight. Saw him talking animatedly to teammates during dead balls as well. Still wish we were spelling him with Jenifer instead of shifting Cobb and KJ over.

I expect Shaq to flourish in that kind of up and down game. He should play all 40 minutes against a team like Memphis and about 10 against Temple. Plus some of those defensive lapses Waite talked about were Shaq's doing. Closed late and fouled a 3 pt shooter in the first half (up 7), and got lost for no reason in the 2nd half and gave up a wide open 3.

I'll save my screed about Evans and Clark needed to take the ball to the rim hard and just say it was nice to win one. Memphis has a ton of talent. Their losses have mostly been close. Great to see the 'Cats of old back supporting the program. Wish our guys would force tempo like Memphis does.

Cincinnati's Gary Clark has a combined 47 rebounds in his last five games. On cusp of becoming a great player. Needs to be more of a killer.

Agree Doogle, those old players changed the mood in the arena. If you are going to play someone like Shaq, then you "must" play fast. He is actually good in that type of game, and it showed last night. In the "bleeding eyeballs" offense, he should play minimal minutes. I think we've beat the Jenifer thing to death. He had a nice run of about 8 games going where he didn't turn the ball over, and then he had maybe his best effort of the year against Houston, then comes in against Temple and has a couple turnovers and hasn't played since...not a minute in a game and three-quarters. Not a good confidence builder for a young player. But, hopefully he'll see a lot of minutes against these two cupcakes coming up.

Last night was fun to watch and much more upbeat because of Kmart being back in the house. Wish we could hire him as a coach or something. No better person to learn from than "the" true Bearcat.

I got a good laugh from Shaq in the post game video. A commemnt was made about a Memphis player's hot shooting tonight. Shaq kinda giggled, shook his head, and said something along the lines as, "everyone (opposing team) gets hot against us here." He smiled again and then said "it is what it is"

Just funny to hear an actual player come out and say it. I know for a fact a lot of fans, including my self surely feel that way.

Start around the 13:05 mark if you watch the video on GoBearcats.com.

mick said the same type of thing on the radio after noting how awful memphis has been at shooting this year.

it's nice to know that they all notice it too.

i was shocked that memphis didn't drill that corner 3 to cut it to 1 point after a mad scramble late naturally resulted in a clean 3 point look for them.

Forgot to mention Troy in my comments to you. That Troy was exceptional, and a pleasure to watch. I could really like that player.

Last night was a fun game, I wish I could believe that we're going to keep seeing games like that from this team going forward.

Maybe the players have decided to tune Mick out? They did seem a little looser last night despite that fact that Mick was up the entire time screaming at them every possession.

Hopefully they've come together as a unit and gotten to that point where they're done listening to Mick and ready to starting playing some winning basketball.

with his role of spot up shooter he is not going to draw a bunch of contact. But he also is running the PG when TC is rested at times and it would be nice to get to the line on occasion. A pump fake or some dribble penetration when someone is running at you. 14 times is miniscule for a guy playing more then 25 minutes a game. Especially with the emphasis on hand checking.

It is weird that he has 0 in conference play. But I agree being a small shooter is a big reason. I don't want him going in with the trees trying to draw contact, that won't end well.

yeah i just don't think drawing fouls is ever going to be a big part of his game. he should only be getting fouled, rarely, as a jump shooter.

i'd have to imagine that most of his free throws last year were late game, intentional foul type attempts.

This and the claim that Big O and Kmart told you Mick needs to go?....Sniff, sniff, i smell bullshit. Fun game to watch last night. I'd love to see a combination game of that offense with the D from the previous handful of games. Seems like it's one or the other

the ignore feature really breaks down when other people quote trolls :(

Between Mick yelling at them the whole game and his loser brother hollering at the refs the whole time I'm surprised our guys can ever focus on anything.

It was a great team effort for them last night to overcome the challenges they face.

Sorry boss, I think anyone who's been on this board for longer than 68 posts knows that I'm not a troll. Just because I don't change my opinion of the coach on a game by game basis doesn't make me a troll. Last night did nothing to change my opinion that Mick needs to go.

I'm happy for the players though and I enjoyed the game thoroughly.

Yep. Pretty much.
Jake his rebounding has been good. What I liked about last night was rather then just back a guy down and turn and shoot over his left shoulder he turned toward the lane and shot a little 8 ft fall away from the middle of the lane for nothing but net. Kid is getting there.

He has shown a few extra post moves lately. I like it. He also didn't hesitate to shoot about a 14 foor jumper. He missed, but we still need him looking to take those shots.

He did miss one or two of those as well but it was great to see a new shot in his arsenal. I really like it...he should be able to hit at least 50% of those. I don't think he even went to his signature move all night...but I think he should mix them all together.
