Mick Cronin needs some help

It comes across like that because of people like you LT who refuse to see any good. UC has played good teams this year but you won't even acknowledge it in your responses!! I said it before and I'll say it again. There are some on here that will not accept Mick Cronin nor give him credit for anything. The only team to beat Pitt. Dominated Memphis on the road. Beat a very underrated SMU team. Played UNM on the road. Beat a good NCST team and ALL you want to talk about is the bad teams. This is typical.

The fanbase can make all the excuses they want. Real brands have a fan following and attendance against any team they play. UC fans talk a big game and say "win and we'll come" and then when you win they say "win some more". Can't have it both ways LT. People are fans or they aren't. You support a program or a coach and as Paul D. even acknowledges there are many here that are still bitter about a coach. It is true and it is a real problem and it is hurting this program.
Why in the hell would I discuss great wins, not to mention league wins? We're talking about scheduling. Instead of just debating the points, you have to make it personal once again by saying, "This is all about people like you L-T". That's why there's very few people like me posting on these sites because when you post the facts, it then gets personal....and you're the moderator.

I'm talking about the lousy ooc home schedule....period. It's a major issue with fans. It's why the old saying, "Win and they will come" doesn't apply to Mick Cronin, because he has done no better than a 4th place finish and beating these no-name teams impresses nobody. If you're winning league championships, getting high seeds, having success in the NCAA, etc, then you can play these teams because you have established credibility.

"I'm talking about the lousy ooc home schedule....period. " Not true! You brought up X's whole schedule and included 4 games they didn't play at Cintas. Can u even debate honestly?

"That's why there's very few people like me posting on these sites because when you post the facts, it then gets personal" I'm not being personal I spoke the truth. There are people on here that will not acknowledge anything positive. Just a fact not personal.

I don't know why we are wasting money on our football program. To me our basketball program should come first, it's not like our football team could ever compete for a national championship, our basketball team could.

What was the recent conference realignment all about? Football.
Should UC ever get in a P5 Conference why will it happen? Football.

I read it wrong...my apologies

Ralph never let it be said we didn't agree on something.Football drives the train for college athletics.

I think the fan base is buying into this team and their style of play, there is excitement in the gym. i expect 10k plus from here on out

Was also at the game last night. Crowd really got into it after Caupain hit the 3 and then scored on a breakout for the and 1. JJ also had an almost steal where he jumped over the floor seats trying to save the ball. Got a great hand from the crowd. I think every one appreciates the effort the team gives, and they certainly deserve support. I wish the next 2 games weren't at 9pm as this will affect attendance. Overall great night to be a Bearcat fan. Looking forward to the rankings coming out tomorrow.

Sports is all about TV anymore. There's absolutely no logic to playing a 9pm game. In game attendance isn't what makes universities money anymore. We would play a game at 1 am if it meant getting TV money for it.

the one thing that gets over looked is during most of the hugs years uc was the only competitive sport in town bengals and reds both did not even compete and uc football was the same uc basketball was what mattered this in itself is a big reason for the sell outs back then

Excellent point. Factor that in with a decrease in attendance nationwide (HDTV/availability of games), the economy, and that there will inevitably still be some after-effects of the Huggings/Zimpher trauma... it's not shocking why attendance is still lackluster.

Interesting article, I'm glad that Mick is making an effort to sell the fan base but I wish he would stop trying to focus on getting people back that were here years ago. If there are people who left after Huggs they aren't coming back and many of them have a grudge against Mick personally. I don't think he's going to win those people over and if I were him I wouldn't want to. I think when Mick comments about his team it should be nothing but positives out of his mouth and he should be telling everyone why they should come see the Cats play.

Mick just has to experience sustained success on a high level. There is buzz around this team right now and the crowds will get bigger as long as the team continues to win. That means don't drop a stupid game at home when the place is packed. Do what you need to do to stay in the Top 25 and continue to climb up the rankings.

Building a new arena won't magically make fans appear. It didn't work for the Reds or Bengals and it won't work for UC basketball. If Mick builds a program people are excited about they will come but it has to be sustained. People need to feel confident that UC basketball is a winner and a must see event.

Great season so far for Mick's boys. People are starting to get excited. People like me who are generally glass half empty guys when it comes to Mick's teams are starting to see the future in guys like TC, KJ and JL. If this team can finish strong, finish with a top 20 ranking and a top 4 seed in the NCAA's then more people will be excited next year.

I haven't had this much belief in Mick's abilities as a coach since his first 3 years. I've been steadily on the fire Mick Cronin bandwagon for 4 years now. For the first time in a long time I'm starting have some doubts about that and that's a good thing.

Welcome aboard. I think all the things you mentioned are things Mick should pursue. Old and New Fans. Improved facilities, better schedule and better advertising. You should constantly look to improve your product. Our role is to continue to buy tickets and cheer for the team. Your absolutely right we are trending up and if we buy tickets and look for the positives we can help change the negative culture that some are hell bent on keeping alive.

I think a new arena could absolutely help with attendance if for the only reason that the casual fan will want to see the new experience. Then it is on UC to make sure that experience is one to keep them coming back. Reds and Bengals have 50,000 seats to fill. The Bearcats will have between 10-15k seats. The task should be a little more manageable. Maybe Im way off in that assertion but I think at least for the first year attendance would see a significant bump. However I think the more important point is that it would help with recruiting. Brand new arena is attractive to top recruits especially when they go to the YUM Center, FedEx, Rupp, and on down the line. Then they show up at 5\3 and its not hard to see why we are at an immediate disadvantage. A new arena would put us on tv more which is another thing recruits care about. Like Cronin said we are already winning at a steady rate now we just need to cosmetic changes to even the playing field. Better recruits equals more wins which equals better perception of your program and things start to snowball. More fans, more dollars, and more opportunities. I think a brand new arena would be a big piece in that puzzle moving forward.

Someone needs to make a call to P&G, Kroger, etc...
