Who is accurate when they are not open and set?
KJ doesn't have to create shots from 3 because teams don't guard him tightly. They sag off because to date he is a poor outside shooter. He is quick enough to create his own shots, but I don't really recall him using that quickness driving and shooting, he is more of a stand still shooter.
I read somewhere that Caupain shot 43% from three in HS. This is why Mick was telling him not to be tentative and shoot more open shots. And on the flip side KJ's struggles from outside may be why he hasn't been seeing the floor much, that and we need SK on the floor. It definitely isn't KJ's defense or hustle.
Shaq does have a better percentage mostly because he is selective and takes shots when he is open and doesn't really force shots, just forces his dribbling in the lane and gets the ball knocked loose.
To answer your first question we have had guys like Burton, Logan, VAn Ex, Durden, Williams, Bobbit, etc who could either catch and shoot quickly or move and shoot pretty accurately off the dribble. Thomas is selective...these other guys weren't all that selective but still nailed a good %. In low volume situations Thomas is fine...but not sure he can be the high volume guy we need at the two.
My point about KJ was not about this year...it was about spending the offseason getting better at long range shots. If he gets better the D won't be sagging...and then he can also use his quickness and handles to fake and get past them easier. Same could be said for Thomas...but he needs to work on his shot as well to get there...mainly changing his trajectory. I would put more money on KJ than ST in this category but I could be wrong.
I agree with you on Caupain.
