I don't think respecting or liking Cronin and Huggins has to be mutually exclusive. Cronin deserves credit for saving this program and Huggins should rightfully be credited for turning it into a program worth saving (I know we won decades before and were a storied program but that had long since been dormant when Huggins arrived). I'll take Huggins and Cronin anyday compared to the conga line of d-bag coaches X has had.

Pure alumnus allegiance, Jeff. Maybe I'm too much of a perfectionist, but, bottom line, I really desire an efficient operation - run by an efficient leader. If you were satisfied by this season's results, good for you. I was not for numerous aforementioned reasons. I have no desire to root for another school, and I'm as ardent a fan as you are, I can assure you. We are just coming from different directions. Hopefully, eventually (sooner rather than later) we will wind up at the same end point, and we'll both be ecstatic.

Dale, not to continue the pissing contest, but there is the impression you give to others on this site and maybe that is why people object so much.

If the Cats had made the elite 8 this year my belief is that you would complain that they didn't make the final four. When they sign an all american recruit you would complain that they don't get 2 of them. If they impove their OC scheduling you would complain that they didn't do it well enough.

And just to make you understand, I have lofty expectations for all the teams I root for and am very disappointed with this year. I don't think anyone on here is happy with the season, but I still do not believe that it means a plateau or a long term downslide.

Specifically, you're premise is incorrect, but in general, it is partially true. What I want to see is improvement and potential. Ultimately, I want to win. That's the objective. But when I lose, I don't want to be embarrassed - especially because of shortcomings that should never rear their ugly head - fundamentals that are the basis of play. Too many here were glad (not happy) that we simply made the dance. I had higher hopes (earlier in the season) other than one and done. That's the way I think. I do want more, as you say. I don't care if you're ranked #1 all season, you should never stop improving. You should never stop learning - and that goes for everyone involved with the team from the top down, from Mick to Alex. That's what frustrated me. We stopped learning. I don't need ANY stars on my team, just guys who click. Just like that old expression "there's no "i" in team". I'm sorry if you interpret that the way you do, but my athletic background has always taught me not to play if you don't play to win (and don't show up if you're ill-equipped to play). I have no trouble accepting losses when I know a great effort was made, and I was just outplayed. That's the most important psychological aspect of playing in my eyes. Nobody is so good they can't be beat just as no record is around that won't eventually be broken.

I dislike X as much as the next UC fan but Gillen and Prosser were stand-up guys and good coaches. Matta and Miller were excellent coaches...maybe they exited XU in a poor manner but what do I care about that? Chris Mack appears to be a dbag. Honestly, if Matta or Miller were my coach, I'd be happy. I'm not saying I'd rather have one of them than Mick...I choose not to think about that because I don't need to. They're all good coaches though...Mick probably better in the D department and the other two probably better in the O-department.

The people on Dale's side have the same impression of the group on the other side. Both sides are equally obsessive, and sometimes ridiculous, in the way they try to argue their point. But, who gives a crap. We're all Bearcat fans and will support the team no matter how much we love or hate Mick. I just want more wins and championships. If the other side wants less, I guess we'll never agree. It's all about expectations. My expectations are a lot higher than many on here. I refuse to believe that we can't be just as good as anyone else, so don't lecture me about "unrealistic" expectations. I'm sure a group of fans at Gonzaga at one time attacked those fans who expected more and believed they could compete with the best too.

IMO Gillen seemed okay and Prosser was a class act. I've never felt that Miller was that good of a coach. He is good at hiring assistant coaches that know how to recruit. And I personally think he is a dbag as well. Matta is a pretty good coach and a hell of a recruiter. I don't have an opinion on him one way or the other....Mack is definitely a dbag.

I'm with you on Miller, he's definitely a douche. He's the guy that said he was "proud of X for standing up to UC" after the brawl. The only guys that I thought were class acts were Prosser and Matta. I can't stand Matta because he's coached two schools I despise, but that's really the only thing I have against him.

Again, I hope that I am not necessarliy pegged as being on one side or the other. I have high expections but at the same time I am realistic. If the expectation is that there never will be bumps in the road or on "off year" yes I do believe that is unrealistic. I do not believe that believe that my concept of reality implies that I will except mediocrity.

Well put, L-T.

you can have high hopes and still be realistic at the same time. fact is once teams found out we had no inside game it was a wrap thats all that happened. in my opinion i dont care who was our coach it would been same story it is what it is.

The coach created the team, not the converse. For sure, this season was a reality check. Hope next season is better.

it was a good team. Not every team is a great team. He got the most out of the talent he had and made the Dance. He recruited a top 25 class. Attendance went up. All this with the conference realignment going on. Very few Coaches deliver on a fan bases expectations. The program is moving forward and as a fan that is all you can ask for. You act like it was a terrible year. It was a good year not great. The talent wasn't there to have a great year. Yes,he recruited the talent. It is apparent he is landing better players. Making the dance three years in a row and averaging 24 wins in that span is no easy task.

I think what some fail to realize is that to consistently land good players a coach needs a reputation for running a successful program. Making the Dance 3 years running is a start. As Micks success continues his clout with recruits will get better. He is making progress in that department. I know It's hard to preach patience but having a coach who is growing himself and the program that truly wants to be here is a great situation. That's what took place under Coach Huggins and he gave us a great run. He was happy here and didn't want to leave. Would much rather have a Coach here for the Long haul then a guy who signs a 10 year deal and leaves the next month. We have a young up and coming Cincinnatian leading our team and he is making great strides. In my mind we couldn't ask for a better situation.

This years team played in the NCAA Tourney, the third consecutive season playing in the NCAA Tourney, you have no clue as to how difficult it is to be good enough to play in the NCAA Tourney.

What I'd like to see is constructive posts from you not constant negativity. You make backhanded negative statements then back pedal about how misunderstood you are when challenged. I have no problem with anyone on here being critical or supportive. I do have an issue with people who are negative no matter what, even when the team wins a game, or people like Ralph, aka BearcatMick, who thinks Mick pisses rainbows.

To L-T's point I don't believe everyone supports the team. I think there are a very small group that wants the team to fail because they dislike the coach. Maybe not so bad they are terrible, but just bad enough to get him fired. The fact is this team has been a NCAA team for the past three seasons. Whether you like the style or not it is a fact. The fact is unless Mick Cronin chooses to, he is not going anywhere. It is also a fact that unless you make the tournament you cannot win a national championship so let's at least all acknowledge we are on the right path as a program.

I get tired of hearing about the Florida Gulf Coasts of the world that show up for a year and are gone as if there is a comparison and their coach really understands what it takes to win.

We have a coach that took a program on life support and rebuilt it. A program that many in basketball circles said may take 10 years to rebuild after losing 2 years of recruiting and the damage the reputation of the school incurred after the Huggs/Z incident, along with a factured fanbase. No big name coach in America even sniffed at this job because they understood what they were facing. Now maybe the rebuild didn't happen as fast or as pretty as some like, but I hate it when people belittle this program that has fought back from so much. It also bugs me when people dog this coach non-stop, not because I think he's God, or even great, but because I think he deserves more respect than he is shown because of all the things I have just mentioned. He has a comparatively small budget, a fanbase that don't support the program, a university that begs for money to become competitive in facilities etc., and all he has done is take us to 3 NCAAs with inferior talent to the teams he competes against in what was, oh by the way, the strongest league in college basketball history.

So I don't need Ralph, aka BearcatMick pissing rainbows, and I don't care to read the constant negativity. We have a solid program, an ESPN top 25 recruiting class for next season, and a good coach. No it's not all perfect, but I'm sure glad it isn't what it was 6 years ago, and we have Mick Cronin to thank for that. Disagree with the x's and o's, types of recruits, and gameplans, but please stop the constant, "We'll never be anything under Mick crap." Frankly, factually it isn't true, and there are MANY programs that would like to say we go to the NCAA every year.

Two words sum up this post-reserved optimism. That is what UC fans must have with Mick as coach. Are there some flaws that dive you insane? Yes. Is UC incredibly hard to watch sometimes? Yes. Is UC in good position moving forward into the future? Yes. Does UC have a solid coach? Yes. Why does it always have to be Mick sucks or Mick is the greatest coach in history? It doesn't, and reality is always found somewhere in between these two extremes.

Hey, all I did was respond specifically to a statement made by BrownBearcat. Simple as that. But you guys love to read all kinds of extraneous BS into that simple statement. Waite nailed me by saying Mick did the best he could with what he had. I really don't agree with that, but not finding a cohesive five belies that statement. Oops, there I go being negative again. Season's over, but my constructive posts have always been to utilize Shaquille more, and GeLawn (but most of you think he's terrible for some reason). and to never let Rubles handle the ball on the outside. I'll give you guys a break and not post till next season. How's that? You get my replacement - BearcatMick and a first round draft pick. See you next season  That should make you all very happy.
