I actually think, as long as he continues to learn, Cronin can be a top level coach. He has the passion and ambition, but he has a ways to go as a tactician and motivator.
how do you figure uc plays as hard or harder then any team in the nation diving for loose balls flying around i dont get that comment if hes great at anything its motivating

I actually don't mind the new league as a short team solution. It's not like there's zero good teams. UCONN, Memphis, and Temple will always be tough. UL for one year. USF had a bad year but they return a lot and bring in a good class.

I'd be fine staying in this conference for a few years, win 27 games a year or so, and keep building our over profile and reputation.

Of course it will suck to lose some of the BE matchups, but I am also one of those who would rather beat Houston by 10 than lose tough games against Georgetown or Syracuse. Just how I feel, but I can easily see if you take the opposite stance.

Our program will be just fine either way.

I think some of us are looking at this from a basketball perspective, but this situation boils down to football and they somehow have to put butts in those new seats. Football will not draw fans with that schedule if we stay in the old BE

yes i started the thread as a basketball perspective i have no argument for football besides winning brings people and hopefully its temp and then we get in acc but im not sold on big 12 which i dont think takes us anyway

I agree, the ACC is a much better fit. It is like the BE 2.0, I think we would thrive in the ACC. In basketball, if we keep winning, the recruiting will continue to improve, and we will pretty much be playing the same caliber teams we played in the BE. Remember, while we would have to play Duke, UNC, Miami, the ACC also has plenty if bottom feeders. Plus, we would play Syracuse, Pitt, ND, and Louisville, who we play already. Football wise, it would be good because it would give Tommy T a few years to build the program his way without having to play the likes of Oklahoma, Oklahoma St., etc. They could compete right way in both sports, IMO.

It's the stadium that's our major holdup.

While other universities invested in their football programs during the 90s, our leadership sat back and preserved the status quo.

i know where btown is going with this as far as caliber of teams uc will play and the advantages they would have but it's about money. whether its the acc or big 12, uc has to move fast or settle for conference USA part 2.

Yeah, we finished 4th one year and went to the championship game once....

Yeah, we had a program that had to be started from scratch and slowly regained its brand. Also, we got to the conference championship game more than a few other teams in our conference and we were in it for a much shorter time than most teams. When you look at where we were, we have come along way and we could compete in the ACC, our talent has continued to improve. Just look at Shaq and Lawrence next year, we could definitely hold our own in the ACC. Also, look at football. 4 ten win seasons and multiple conference championships. We have what we need to be good in the ACC.....

We didn't have a football program in the 90s, that's why. I don't blame them for not investing, they didn't have a good product to invest in. Greg Williams was our major holdup, he kept stating that the BE was just fine, sorta like Ralph. We needed an ambitious leader like Santa Ono 2-3 years ago who could've laid the groundwork for an exit when the rumblings began. The biggest thing that they should've invested in during the 90s was the basketball team-they had a good product and we needed better facilities to keep up, but that was totally ignored until Mick came and began to push for upgrades.

Why do i get the feeling i will be hearing about u.c. starting from scratch 8 years ago 50 years from now... Shaq and Lawrence are good signs and promising players for u.c.. We have 2 duke and NC have whole teams of them.

That's all Mick needs, a few great recruits and a few under the radar guys, and we can compete with the big boys.
