I don't mind a new league. UC, UConn, Memphis, Temple, and add a couple solid teams like SMU or USF, who both have good recruiting classes coming in, and some cupcakes. Balance it with a good non-conf schedule and rock on till something better comes along.

Bingo that's how I feel. The only problem I see is how non conf schedule won't be improving anytime soon. Which is a big problem. I think if we go to the acc we will have the same problems as we did in the BE. We will be a middle of the pack team and never really be a threat to contend for a championship, In basketball of course. Now football is a different story but the basketball quality is just ridiculous.

Please let it go!!! It was 6 years ago. How long are we going to use that as an excuse?

That's not an excuse, it's a reminder of where we started, because we have to put up with all this crap from all of you Huggins loyalists. Why don't you let that go? Three NCAA tourney appearances and a Sweet 16 is about as much as you can ask given the starting situation and our financial limitations. Recruiting has slowly gotten more consistent and Mick is still improving as a coach. I don't think Mick is the best coach in college basketball or that he even runs decent offense, but he is still a good coach. He has helped us regain our brand, just look at the tourney this year, experts were actually giving UC love and saying they had a good shot to beat Creighton. I think that many people feel as if other teams are better off than us as far as coaching and rebuilding a program. Why don't you ask Providence, Seton Hall, St. John's, and DePaul fans how easy it is to rebuild? I bet their fans would die to have Mick as their coach, but yet we still hear grumpy people who constantly bash Mick. If you think 22-12 is a bad year, I would love to hear what you think a good year is.......

No one is talking about or cares about huggins loyalist. The point youre missing is that at some point it doesnt matter where you start it matters where you are. Compairing us to prov, st john, and depaul is about as fair as compairing us to indiana... Who has rebuilt a dead program in less time. Of course everyone will point out with a better budget and facilities.

Everyone points them out because it is a well known fact. Your point is moot, because we aren't in the same conference as Indiana and we never had the brand Indiana has or has ever had. Providence, St. John's, and DePaul have been in the same conference as us and for an even longer time, so it is fair, because each of them had a brand similar to ours when they were good. Getting out of the cellar is hard, but taking that next step is even harder and takes even more time. People think Coach K, Boeheim, etc. built their respective programs overnight, but it took time, just like everything in life. If you expect UC to be like UK/Indiana and get big time players because of their name, you are mistaken. It takes decades to build a brand like theirs.

Mick deserves a lifetime contract for what he's done in spite of a loud minority of irrational fans that want him gone

^^^^^ this is an overstatement, I take the middle ground in this debate. He has done a solid job, but he still has some flaws he needs to work on as a coach, but so does every coach, even the best ones.

those teams you mentioned put lots of money into their bball programs plus the fan dedication helps. with that said all their football programs suck. money helps too

As we keep winning and attendance keeps climbing, revenue will improve, and the budget will improve.

I agree, but since it isn't the gauntlet that the Big East once was, Mick has to get the young guys extended minutes. I felt they needed more in Big East play to help them develop them but no excuses in this new conference.

Once again you're missing the point... I DIDN"T BRING UP DUKE, KY, SYRACUSE BUT here is a fact since you think it took Duke forever to build their program, when Coach K took over at Duke in 80 they went to the national championship in 85 and only missed the tournament once in the last 29 years.

He found a niche at Duke, where they never had to support a good football team and they basically put all their money on basketball. Plus, he had some talent when he first took over but built it up slowly from making the tourney, to going a little bit further, to going even further. He also had a few down years at Duke, which no one mentions, because they have been so consistent besides that. Mick has us on the path to consistency, 3 straight tourney appearances and a sweet 16, quit your whining.......

no he doesn't. for all the credit he earned last year, he's earned all the heat for this year.

^^^^ Best comment of the whole thread. Coaches get either slammed or praised, last year Mick was a genius and suddenly this year he lost it all. No, it doesn't work like that. Mick is what he is-a solid coach, not a great offensive mind, but very good at getting his teams to play d and be scrappy. For some teams, that will be enough. For this team, it wasn't enough.

right!! attendance did climb this year and can get better for next year with more fan support. fill the arena even against those weak teams we play in the beginning and watch the money and and endorsements roll in. that's why Mick screams for more fan support

And Mick finally can get the big name non-conference teams to come in, because we have started to be consistent and better known name in college basketball. Next year, we will have a decent conference schedule in b-ball and an improved non-conference schedule. That will certainly help, along with winning consistently.
