Per multiple sources, (Alex Kline, Jon Rothstein, etc.) Mark Lyons will not return for his senior season at Xavier.

Massive blow for Xavier next year. I'd be surprised if they made the tournament now.

Looks like you were right. Sounds like he's going to look around at some schools first. CBS says he is eligible next season? I know a decent amount about elegibility but not sure how this works. Is it because X is going to technically release him instead of him leaving X?

Cited "multiple on and off the court issues".

Who cares. Please stop posting about irrelevant mid major thug worthless crap universities that sold their basketball program to the devil on a uc site. Thanks

I heard from an X fan that he has already graduated hence the reason he wouldn't have to sit out a year if he transferrred. I was surprised to hear this because I thought he was a partial qualifier. Oh well, X will find another transfer to replace him, that is the only way they get recruits.

there was talk on twitter that dez wells was to leave x too. can somebody confirm that and whats the deal with him?

I've actually heard Mark decided to leave on his own and Xavier was trying to persuade him to stay. We will never know the true story.

I think Iona would be a nice fit for Lyons. He'd probably averaged 20 a game with the way they play, but I could also see him landing at Arizona or St. Johns too.

I don't know how true it is but I've also seen that Mark and Dez were pretty close, and if Mark left, Dez would heavily consider leaving as well. Don't know if it's true or not but it could get interesting.

Anyways Xavier will be pretty damn bad next year regardless. If Wells stays, their returning players only combined for 26 PPG last year.

Wells tweeted something about 2 months ago along the lines of "all my friends leaving Xavier" and Twitter blew up that he was going to transfer out. He quickly clarified that he was talking about non-basketball players and he was not going to leave Xavier.

So no I don't think there's any reason to believe he would be leaving.

since hes done that 4 guys left the program. xavier will be in trouble if he decides to go too.

Correct. He always sounded entirely committed. However, when a good portion of your friends and teammates are abandoning ship, anything could happen. Dez will have to be an absolute star this season for Xavier. Right now their lineup is shaping up to be something like:

PG- Criston, fr
SG- Davis, fr
SG- Wells, so
PF- Taylor, sr
C- Robinson, sr

Those are just guesses, but that is a pretty rough lineup compared to last year. Besides Dez, Taylor would be the most experienced player averaging roughly 4 points and 4 rebounds last season in about 14 minutes a game. I highly doubt Dez will, but who knows, he could leave. And if he did, its hard to see Xavier even being close to .500 next season.

Anyone know why Lyons' in transferring?

Sat down with Chris Mack and both decided it was "time his career at Xavier came to a close." Unclear if it was more Mack saying he needed to leave or Lyons wanting to leave, but CBS says his leaving was due to "several on and off the court issues."
