It was one of the first things I noticed when I saw him playing AAU ball. I saw it again during both summer leagues he has participated in. It is something I noticed last year when he played. Some people who have watched him in practice have also commented to me that his court vision is not very good, and that is why Mick sees him as purely a 2 guard.

I personally always thought Parker would improve. Even after his bad sophomore year and people on boards like this thought we would be better off without him, I disagreed because I saw the skill set to become a player. I just don't think JDIII's court vision is a skill that will develop. It is more of an instinctive thing, you either have it or you don't. He doesn't. Therefore, he is better playing off the ball.

His court vision may not be great but it's better than Guyn's. Maybe the newcombers will be better but that's asking a lot.

While I don't think Guyn is a great PG, I think he definitely has better vision on the court than JDIII. From everything I have heard from those who watch practice, there are no plans for Davis to ever play at the point.

Meh. JDIII's court vision isn't that bad.

Judging him from an AAU game or Deveroe's game is silly. Every player is selfish in those games.

My assessment isn't from him playing selfishly like is typical in AAU and summer league. In fact, it is the exact opposite. The assessment is from him trying to be a facilitator. It is from him trying to make passes to places where there is no pass to be made. It is from him making the wrong pass. It is from him dribbling at the top of the key trying to make a play and letting several opportunities pass him by because he doesn't see something develop or doesn't see an open man.

I like him as a player. I think he can be great for UC. It is just going to have to be playing off the ball.

Meh. JDIII has played sparingly his frosh season.

No way anyone knows what he is good at or not good at. And some players improve their games over time.

Frankly the fact that Mick didn't groom a PG replacement troubles me.

JD111 doesn't seem to have the handle for the point guard position either. He is strong with the ball but he is an average athlete. Looks like a backup shooting guard. Caupan is Mick's guy at the point. Guyn is the backup there. Should be a good battle.

I have to respectfully disagree here. I haven't seen anything out of Guyn to suggest he has any court vision. With Davis I see him playing at a faster pace and he usually has his head up looking for other players. Guyn's handle isn't good enough so he has to shield the ball with his off hand whenever someone is guarding him. I just don't see it in Guyn. IMO Mick likes Guyn better because he is more conservative with the ball, so even though I think Davis is better at PG than Guyn, I agree with your last statement.

Your second and third statements completely contradict one another.

I don't know who Mick has his eye on but if Davis is playing off the ball this year he's only going to get about 10 minutes at the max behind SK. I see Thomas, Lawrence, Rubles, and JJ rotating at the 3 and 4.

I thought Davis did a great job of making points last year while he was in there. I know there is a lot more to the point such as D and assists but he's got an aggressive mentality and I think he can be a spark plug type of leader out there...he's emotional. If he can't play point...I'm not sure he sees a lot of minutes.

KJ impresses me in his highlights a lot. I haven't been overly impressed by GG in 2 seasons. I haven't seen enough of Caupain to be overly impressed or optimistic. I have been impressed by JDIII.

It will be fun to watch this battle all season because we could very well see all 4 of them get a shot.

I think we should all keep an open mind.

Over the years, when you have veterans in place for several years that finally move on.........a lot of the bench players tend to defer to them, and don't really play their games. With Cash, Parker and Mbodj gone, you might see some guys step up their games.

Very true, I think that applies to Thomas more than anyone else. I know it's getting redundant, but I can't wait to see how he does this year. We saw glimpses of what he can do last season. Hopefully Mick tells him not to hold back this season because we don't want him to defer. As scary as it may sound, he may need to lead us in scoring in 14-15. (Please don't argue who is going to lead us in scoring 2 years from now; just saying he's going to play a big part)

What are the odds both Thomas and Lawrence start for most of next year? Or, are they both 3 spot guys?
