Roster for next season

Angel Rodriguez of K-State is transferring, but he is doing so to get closer to his mom and 2 younger brothers in Puerto Rico. We are probably out of the picture, Ohio is pretty far away from Puerto Rico. Wherever he transfers, he has a decent chance of getting a waiver to play immediately. Vidal Hazelton did the same thing in football for us a few years back.....

Outside of JD3 and SK who is going to hit 3's next season? Shaq's game is to attack and if he does with his length and leaping ability he is virtually impossible to stop when he pulls up. Once he learns to get some arc and put the ball on the rim look out!

With the roster the way it is currently set up, and not knowing what you get from the frosh, this team needs to be an attacking team. Rubles and Shaq can get to the rim. SK and JD3 can shoot. After that it's a crap shoot and I think Mick knows it and that is why he is trying so hard to find other pieces, like BJ Tyson, to the puzzle.

This is why I like JDIII at PG. If SK is the only 3 pt weapon in the lineup he's not going to get a lot of good looks. JDIII at PG helps solve a couple of problems. He can score...which is something we desperately need. He's not timid. He can give the team and fans the excitement boost at times. He may not be as good defensively as Guyn but he does get steals. He may turn the ball over a bit more but he also may provide more assists because of his aggressiveness.

Davis is in year 3 now (in terms of learning the system). He will be far ahead of the game compared to Johnson in knowledge and far ahead in the offensive mind than Guyn. Davis CAN be a difference maker...a go to guy...and I don't see that from Guyn.

At some point you have to find a way to get these guys in the game even if you have to sacrifice a little on D or TO's. The potential rewards outweighs the risks IMO. So if we can get Davis in there and get a double bonus with Strickland winning the 5...I think we have something to work with.

can't see JDIII running the point. Lacks quickness and handle. Have no reason to think he is a difference maker. Hope I'm wrong but I don't see it.

One thing to remember is that, for good or for bad, we haven't seen him play a long time. Personally, I think this redshirt year will really help his development. When he played early this season vs. Directional State A and T, he looked good and like he was almost ready to turn the corner in his development. I think he is quick enough and has a good handle, but just made lots of dumb decisions at times. That's natural for a young player, hopefully he has shown signs that he is outgrowing that. I think judgement on JD3 should be withheld until the end of next year. Guyn, on the other hand, is at a crossroads in his UC career. I actually really like his 3 point shot and I think it is one of the most underrated on the team. He plays good defense. He just doesn't seem to have the intangibles that good pg usually have. I think that JD3 or a frosh. will win the pg battle, but I do believe Guyn could become a solid backup and decent contributor.

i don't think Mick is even considering using JDIII at PG. Guyn was used their freshman year. Their 2nd year Guyn was Cash's backup again. Even before the injury. Guyn or a new guy will run the pg.

Why does the fan base think the new guys will run point?? They are both 2's. Am I missing something? Everywhere I have read they are both shooting guards.

Caupin was recruited to play PG. Whether he can or not is a different story.

I haven't given up on Guyn. He had a role to play the past couple years and now the job will be his to lose. Am I confident? No, but I'm willing to give the guy a chane beyond the 10 mpg I've seen him in. Actually thought he showed some signs of improving toward seasons end. Still wouldn't mind a seasoned transfer though.

Deshaun Morman played pg for his prep school this year..... Just saying

I wondered if anyone else caught that from the youtube videos. He was the guy typically running the offense.

Not sure if he could do it for major college basketball. But atleast he has some experience.

Personally I feel playing in the AAC will help us this year. We have a lot of young talent coming in and playing against lesser competition should mean more playing time and experience. We kinda got the shaft when we entered the big east with all the turmoil going on here with huggs and the fact we face planted and had zero recruits. Losing your coach of a decade and all your recruits and getting an unproven coach(at the time) while joining the best basketball conference in the country arent a good recipe for success. I think this next season and the future look pretty bright. but thats just me

It seems obvious that with the players Mick has recruited for this class he wants guys who can shoot, handle and get to the rim. He also wants thm versitile. That served him well with Dixon and Cash in the game in previous year. Really didn't have the fall off from a ball handling perspective when Cash had to rest. With the two wings we had playing this year, Parker and SK, one got to the line and one couldn't convert that being Parker and the other could make FT's but didn't get to the line that being SK. SK settled for way to many jump shots. After Cash's injury we really became a perimeter shooting team because the injury cut down on him going to the basket as well.

Next year SK needs to improve on getting to the rim. He needs to get to the line. He should add some scoring from the FT line. Thomas has that ability. If he can improve his shot and get stronger at finishing at the rim he will be a monster next year. Rubles needs a big guy he can play off of. When he drives by the opposition he needs to have someone who he can dish to that finishes at the basket. Had no one last year. He made many nice passes last year that were wasted. Improving his shot will also help.

Add Lawrence with his inside out game and we should be tough to defend next year. Hopefully one of the remaining cast will be a tough minded Guard that can play D and get in the lane, distribute the ball, finish at the rim and make some FT's.

I think I remember reading at one time that Mick was encouraging Morman to get time at the point.

With Morman, Caupain, and the continued recruiting going on it seems that Mick is wanting competition for the PG spot and seeking more talent, which isn't a great endorsement for Guyn. I think he's a good role player/reserve - which this team needs. I'm hoping freshman or transfer is able to take ownership of that role.

Before someone argues that I'm advocating throwing the season away just to play the young guys and we need to go with experience. I want the best player to play the point. I'm just hoping a better option than Guyn rises up. If he's our best option than by all means. I just don't think that would bode well for the season.

I think what Mick wants is wings that can shooot and get to the rim and finish. That requires you being able to handle the ball. The new guys can all do that. Are any a traditional PG at this time, probably not but they are all capable of transitioning into one if needed.

Interesting thought from Jon Rothstein.

Troy Caupain, Sean Kilpatrick, Shaquille Thomas, Jermaine Lawrence, Justin Jackson @cbcatcher33 predict Cincinnati's starting 5?
