Interesting thought from Jon Rothstein.

Troy Caupain, Sean Kilpatrick, Shaquille Thomas, Jermaine Lawrence, Justin Jackson @cbcatcher33 predict Cincinnati's starting 5?

Well, I hope Caupain is good enough to start right away at the 1, but I doubt it. I also think there is very little chance that Rubles is sitting on the bench to start games.

If it's a "small" lineup, I could see Thomas, Lawrence, and Rubles at the 3-5.

I think to begin the year it'll be

Guyn
SK
Thomas
Rubles
Jackson (though I really don't like this)

I think that shortly in Lawrence joins starting lineup and pushes Jackson out. And then I hope someone pushes Guyn out of the starting lineup.

If Lawrence can score, he will start from Day 1. If he struggles with the transition a bit, then Rubles will start. Jackson will start at the 5. I still think it's Guyn's job to lose but I would love to see someone step up and unseat him. If that happens, and if it is Caupain, the future and present are very, very bright.

Really don't like Jackson at the 5 but that is the only place he'll get minutes. If he starts fine but I hope strickland or another big not yet on campus gets the PT. Still think there is some roster shuffling to happen before season starts.

I think I remember reading at one time that Mick was encouraging Morman to get time at the point.

With Morman, Caupain, and the continued recruiting going on it seems that Mick is wanting competition for the PG spot and seeking more talent, which isn't a great endorsement for Guyn. I think he's a good role player/reserve - which this team needs. I'm hoping freshman or transfer is able to take ownership of that role.

Before someone argues that I'm advocating throwing the season away just to play the young guys and we need to go with experience. I want the best player to play the point. I'm just hoping a better option than Guyn rises up. If he's our best option than by all means. I just don't think that would bode well for the season.

Don't underestimate Kevin Johnson.

Jeff think all the new wings are athletic and can handle a bit. Hope one grows into a big time PG.

I'm just excited about this group of guards as a whole. I just believe they are going to be a solid group that may not wow you but will make plays.

can't see JDIII running the point. Lacks quickness and handle. Have no reason to think he is a difference maker. Hope I'm wrong but I don't see it.

I can agree with you on handles and quickness...but trying to come up with someone better is hard to do. GG is probably quicker but it's not just quickness that translates. If KJ wasn't a freshman I would say he has them both beat in both categories. Some players have much better in game instinct and BB moves...and I think that is Davis. Granted, I am basing a lot of this off of a couple games early last year against easier talent...but I don't remember feeling the same about GG.

We haven't had anynone here with great handles for a long time. Cash was good but not great. Logan had great instinct and BB moves but not sure he was super quick with great handles. He certainly couldn't have been too bad though:)

Look right now I believe JD3 will back up SK and play some point, but let's not get so caught up in quickness. Logan was not quick. There are various ways to get in the lane including using strength and angles.

Here is my prediction for the PG and C this year.

PG

GG starts out the season. Davis gets some early looks behind GG and also SK at the 2. If we are in the hunt at the end of the season I am guessing Davis will have won the job. If we are not I am guessing GG still has it or they want to look at one of the frosh. My pick is easily KJ...but I'm not that good. Either that or GG surprises the hell out of me.

JJ starts the year off at the 5. I doubt Nyarcuk or Gaines wins the job but they will get a few minutes (unless one isn't on the team). Perhaps they play small and Lawrence gets a couple looks. I think Strickland has the easiest opportunity as a frosh to get minutes and possibly earn a starting job by years end. He's not going to be as active as JJ but he SHOULD be better at keeping guys out of the lane. I can't imagine he will be too far behind in the stupid mistakes category. Once again I think it depends on where we are in the standings. If we are in the hunt for the NCAA's I would bet we see more JJ. If we falter early I think we will see a lot more Strickland.

Yes I will take instinct and BB moves over quickness any day. Even on D it's not that much of a disadvantage...the guy with the instinct can get a lot more steals or predict where his man will go or what he will do. He might even set the opponent up to make the move he wants as a trap.

I am not saying JDIII is the second coming of Logan...but I really like what I have seen in the past. I also could be dead wrong...we will see.

I would be fine with us having fresh legs at the point and pressuring the other pg all game long, split up the time evenly at the point between 4 or 5 players and constantly have those fresh legs to pressure the other point, even if our whole team isn't pressing our PG's should all have fresh legs because there are going to be so many that play the position.

i don't think Mick is even considering using JDIII at PG. Guyn was used their freshman year. Their 2nd year Guyn was Cash's backup again. Even before the injury. Guyn or a new guy will run the pg.

I don't think JDIII will see the point either because he his court vision is awful.

you figured out his court vision was awful after his freshmen year?

After Parkers freshmen and sophomore years I would have told him to find somewhere else to play because he was god awful. But then things clicked his junior year and he definitely made a name for himself.

You can never judge someone based on their freshmen year in a stacked conference. This redshirt year could do wonders
