I find it funny that TC gets so much criticism when he has been the most consistent player on the team. He needs to grow in some areas absolutely and one is in understanding that team needs him to score but let's be real, outside of Ellis nobody is close in terms of game in game out performance. Cobb has had good games but no consistency throughout the season.

Thank you, Jeff. Anyone who says Troy "doesnt have it in him" or it's not in his DNA has complete blinders on. He was a mad man in that UCONN game. An absolute mad man. He was flexing and jawing and played with as much aggressiveness and intensity you will see out of a high profile guard. I dont know the reason why the foot has come off the gas for him. I think the fact he is a 19 year old kid might have something to do with it. Kids are inconsistent. That's not an excuse it's an explanation. It's a reality. I dont know what the answer is to get him back on track but it is clear to me that he has everything capable to be a really good high major guard. From a skills standpoint and a leadership standpoint. Just needs to become more consistent and and every indication across basketball and life shows that will come with maturity.

My thing with Troy is this...You know that he knows when other guys (KJ/Sanders/Shaq) aren't getting it done. So imo some nights he needs to realize when to stop trying so hard to get them going, and get himself going. It's that simple.

standing around with your hands on hips isn't trying get somebody going

Not sure what your beef is with a guy that leads your team in scoring and assist, rebounds well and hits his free throws. Shoots 46% from the field. Also his over 40% from the 3 I believe. He is a good player who will be a very good player. He is growing into a leadership role. We all recognize he has deficiencies. He is still the best player on this team.

Very well said jeff, I guess I can be a little hard on Troy because I just want him to put it all together consistently.

This is not an insult...it's a factual observation...you have no idea what you are talking about (at least on this issue).

Troy plays over 30 minutes a game and can usually be either spotted with the ball or running around from side to side via baseline trying to get open so someone can pass him the ball. He comes to get it at the end of the clock.

He may have to take a little break every once in a while because he plays the most minutes and also does the most running.

You must be watching Xavier games

Huh? What do you guys be watching? Nobody on team usually runs baseline but Shaq, the 4/5 might flash to elbow that's only movement you have until shot clock goes down and Ellis comes out sit pick. I'm not bashing Caupain but he gets his 10pts a game effortlessly. He gets you 2threes game with shot clock down, gets his lay up from steal and 2free throws. His not out there working hard at all to get his points. When NOBODY average 10 pts and you score 13 in a half players like TC should try do whatever score 50. No matter how many times he shoot it his not coming out. Guy with size and speed like him with above average shot should score 20 easily playing with bums.

Sanders has made 1 shot in 99 minutes the last 4 games. He has 1 total point in the last 3 games. What in the world happened to him since the SMU game? If he is still battling the hamstring or groin thing or whatever it was earlier this year, it may be a good idea to shut him down for a few games.

What happened to him is what happens to most sub's when they are put in roles their talent can't handle. They are exposed for what they are, subs. Him and Shaq can contribute in spurts but when asked to do to much they fail.

Inconsistency is the cross this team must bear. Every player on this team suffers from it. Ellis,TC and Clark are the most consistent performers we have and if you watched all the games this year they have been up and down as well. There is talent but it must be maddening as the coach never knowing who will show up game to game. Can you imagine being down 1 with 10 seconds to go and looking at this group trying to decide who takes the last shot? we have talent but know one player makes the other players better. Every player on this team has been pointed out through the season by many who post on these threads as needing to step up.

Folks keep misconstruing a "faster pace" with running up and down the floor breakneck style. Nobody is suggesting that. The better way to phrase it is "more aggressive and purposeful". Bring the ball up the floor with purpose. Set the offense up and look to be aggressive.

If efficiency is a constant, then heeeell yeah play faster. 33% FG on 70 shots is better than 33% on 50 shots. If they're going to play at this pace, then be more aggressive. Aggression might lead to better efficiency and more offensive rebounding.

I listen the CBB shows on Sirius Ch 91 a lot and Fraschilla or someone was talking the other day about how tough PG is to play when it's being played correctly. It's your team. You dictate the pace. It's your responsibility to get guys where they're supposed to be and to execute, and to demand the ball in crucial moments. We're asking quite a bit of Troy here. He's the youngest kid on the team with the most responsibility and I doubt he's ever had this much responsibility, especially over guys 2-3 years his senior.

Hopefully he steps up more consistently on that end, he's the only one who can do it for us. I don't question his ability or skill at all. Just his will to take the reigns.

I think Shaq stays in the starting line up, but I'd like to see Johnson back at the 2 guard. If you noticed, Cobb came right out about 3 minutes into the game against Houston.
the logic was starting both of our PG's would get us off to a better start and improve our offense. What happened was we still got off badly and TC ended the half with 3 fouls. I agree we should continue to start KJ. Morman could get minutes at 2 and 3 when needed if he gets his act together. Cobb can eat into KJ's minutes if his shot is falling and protect you against TC getting into foul trouble. People will say TC getting into foul trouble does not occur with TC but what they fail to realize is that is by design. No coach wants to have their PG saddled with 3 fouls in 1st half. Cobb is the no.1 sub at 2 spots. He is extremely valuable in that role.

TC gets criticism because he is our best player and his 2 biggest no shows this year coincided with 2 horrible losses. I don't really agree with you that he's been that consistent. I think he carries the offense in certain games and other times he is just a guy.

TC getting 3 fouls had nothing to do with starting Cobb over KJ. And when TC got 3 fouls, Cobb still played the same role even if he had not started. Your theory makes no sense whatsoever. And even though Cobb didn't play a good game and KJ played one of his better games, Cobb was still better than KJ.

Johnson is a walking turnover. His turnovers against Houston were horrendous and he would have had at least 3 more turnovers had the ball not bounced right to UC when he lost it. His minutes should be limited.

Agreed. He is a good defender, but right now he provides nothing on offense unless he is hot from 3. He doesn't get to the rim (although he is physically capable), isn't a good ball handler, and isn't a sound passer at this point in his career.

No, it's not. Think about that for a second... 33% isn't very good, at all. If you shoot 20 more shots at a faster pace, likely so will your opponent. And if they shoot over 33%, you're just going to lose by more. You're not just getting a bonus 20 shots without your opponent getting a bunch more as well.

I do think we could move at a faster pace, but not too fast. I say, if you've got an open shot, shoot it. Who cares how much time is left on the shot clock. Run your plays, and if you're open, fire away. Position yourself to rebound at any point. I know it sounds simple, but I don't feel you need to either be very fast or very slow paced to win. Just take what the defense gives you.

I'm not saying Cobb isn't better then KJ. What i'm saying is has to back up TC because he is our only other option at PG. He also is are best 2 guard. Cobb was subbed for a little over 3 minutes into that game. Why??? The theory that we would get off to a good start with Cobb starting did not happen. We were trailing 20-10. I'm not going by theory. Very few Coaches in America will leave their starting PG in the game to get his 3rd foul in the 1st half. The reason it doesn't happen to TC is because it isn't allowed to happen. He is generally subbed for before he can get in 1st half trouble. That sub is Cobb. If TC doesn't pick up a early foul Cobb gets good minutes at the 2. Same with out bigs. What i'm trying to tell you is if TC picks up his second foul he is lost for the half. The only suitable back up is Cobb. Please don't say Morman could play point. Cobb is then going to be play the rest of the haf unless like yesterday he is put back in and picks up his 3rd. Not a good thing. What if yesterday KJ didn't have one of his good days. Which everyone says he Doesn't have often. We had TC with 3 fouls and no Morman. Argueably are best player only played 21 minutes yesterday.KJ got 31 in a game which could have eliminated us from the NCAA's if we lost. If we had another PG I would be fine with Cobb starting and getting major minutes at the 2. Cobb played a very good game yesterday even if the rock wasn't falling for him. He still had a very good game especially when he played with KJ.In my opinion Cobb is much more valuable getting his minutes off the bench as the game unfolds. just my opinion.
