Trying to predict minutes of playing time is not practicle. There is foul trouble to consider. The numbers can also be impacted by who is in foul trouble. For instance one of TC or Cobb must be on the floor at all times. That is the big reason one starts and one comes off the bench. They are the only PG's we have on the roster. We turn the ball over at a high rate already without one in the game it would be ugly. Cobb is getting minutes subbing for TC And KJ. Really makes little difference if he is starting and getting 25 a game or subbing and getting 25 a game. The only issue is if TC is not on the floor it is IMPARATIVE that Cobb is on the floor. That is the reason he does not start over KJ.

There are 5-10 of us on the start Cobb train we all know why he doesn't start but we don't care we need to win NOW idc about backups, we have all heard you say the same thing over and over we don't care these games are must wins you need to start your best 5 NOW.

Yeah predicting minutes isn't really possible game by game, but I was just trying to lay out in general how much I'd like to see the guys on the floor. It seems like we never get enough DeBerry in the 2nd half. I can also see the Cobb off the bench thing (considering I felt that way until yesterday), but to me it had more to do with KJ. Would you be open to having Morman start and eat into some of KJ's PT?

I can see where people are coming for with cobb having to be in the game when tc isn't but is kj really that much better than morman. Morman drives into the lane as good as any guard we have he has a great floater and he knows how to draw a foul. If the argument is to play kj because of defense morman is equally as good defensively so I don't understand why kj gets many more minutes than morman

i want to win every game. But I wouldn't start Cobb because I don't think it would serve a purpose other then potentially hamstringing me later in the game. The best 5 need to get the most minutes. Who starts is not relevant especially when starting both could lead to problems with ball handling and substitution patterns. Now next year when we add Jenifer for ball handling if you want to start Cobb and TC it would be a whole different situation.

Here is a example if you start both Cobb and TC and in the first 5 mi Utes of game TC picks up 2 fouls he is lost for rest of half and Cobb is forced to play rest of half. In that same game what if Cobb gets two fouls in 1st half, who is running point then. I'm all for Cobb seeing more minutes but I'm not for starting him because he needs too run PG when TC is not in game.

If Morman's play continues to get better as it has I have no problem with him getting more minutes.

Bearcatboy there is much more to managing a game or Coaching the game then getting your best five on the floor. Different players have different roles and skill sets. I'm not arguing that Cobb is out playing KJ. I'm saying because he is our only other point guard and that needs to be considered when filling out line up. Now if your issue is starting Morman as opposed to KJ that is a better arguement.

Couple things...
1. Cobb and Caupain combine to average 2.6 fouls per game. That's combined. And neither one has fouled out this season. I'd be shocked if they both picked up 2 fouls in the 1st half. And even if they did, one of them could easily play with 2 fouls in an emergency situation.
2. The only time recently that I can think of where we didn't get off to a slow start offensively, was the game Cobb started. Most other games it seems like we are sitting there at single digit points halfway through the 1st half. Something has to change there.

The reason for your first point is that they sub for one another because they are the only ball handlers on team. No coach is leaving a stater in to pick up his 3rd foul so early in game even in emergency. Jacob no coach does this. Does that tell you anything about your thought process.

Didn't we lose the game Cobb started?

Why do you assume that both guys will automatically pick up 2 fouls in the 1st half if they both start?

And we did lose the game Cobb started, but it had nothing to do with foul trouble. It had to do with our coach sitting him for 10 minutes in the 1st half for no reason.

I'm not assuming any such thing I'm planning for the possibility.

I get that mentality 100%. And I've never veered from that mentality. Our slow starts are just such an issue for me that I'm willing to try anything to figure out how to get these guys going. I obviously don't have the answers, bc if I did I'd be on the sideline, but these guys just have to get going somehow right from tip.

I would like to see the guys get out of the gate a better. as well but our losses have not been about slow starts. It's TO's,poor shooting and lack of rebounding. my thought is those are the areas I would attack if I was coaching.

Would you consider going bigger and starting Clark at the "3" alongside Ellis and DeBerry? Not a natural fit offensively, but it might help sure up our defensive rebounding. Only thing with that is that with Moore being out, we might not be able to have those guys all out there together.

Yeah I don't think there is any way possible you can play the only 3 bigs on the roster at the same time. DeBerry still can only play about 10-15 minutes max.

Plus on offense teams already completely pack it in on us. Put those 3 in and our already awful spacing would become even worse.

It is crazy how we have become so thin. Especially on the front line. I remember before the year, the fall back was "well if nothing else, at least we'll have depth". I'm never going to be against bringing on a 13th scholarship player ever again, no matter who it is. We could even use Nyarsuk right now.

Or Strickland.

I think you answered your own question. We are going to be forced to have Shaq as the back up 4 to Clark. Deberry is the back up 5 to Ellis. Morman is the back up 3 to Sanders.

Our depth is a serious issue right now.

We don't have Guyn, Moore, Strickland from the original roster this year. Hell even our coach is out!! I have never seen anything like it. It will take a miracle for this team to finish strong and make the tourney.
