I actually like Cobb coming off the bench. I think there is real value to have someone come off the bench who can light it up. It's all a matter of preference of how you want to start the game because as I look at their numbers they are very similar. Cobb is the better offensive player, KJ is the better defensive player. They both are turnover machines. I dont think either one of them have "earned" the right to that spot but we simply have no other choice. It's no secret this staff rewards defense over offense. There lies your answer. They want to set the tone defensively first. So the best defensive group starts.

Jake on your playing time point, the point that he was making is that when Cobb has a bad game he is in a short leash and gets benched. When kj has a bad game they just keep playing him when they should be giving maybe morman a try. Cobbs average on his minutes is so close to Kevin's because there has been games where he has played 35 mins and games he's played 10.

What if I told you KJ has only gone over 30 minutes twice and Cobb has done it once. How about KJ has played under 20 minutes 5 times and Cobb has played under 20 minutes 6 times. KJ has played between 21-28 minutes 16 times, Cobb has done it 15 times. The facts do not support your argument.

11/23: 23 min 0-5 FG
11/25: 31 min 3-9 FG
11/29: 23 min 1-9 FG
12/12: 29 min 2-9 FG
12/20: 28 min 3-10 FG
12/23: 24 min 1-4 FG
1/6: 21 min 0-3 FG
1/15: 21 min 1-7 FG
1/21: 17 min 1-6 FG
1/25: 15 min 1-4 FG
1/29: 24 min 2-7 FG

These are half of Cobb's games. Leash doesn't seem all that short to me (nor should it be with the ability he has shown to get hot). But he is 33% FG or worse (20.5% FG overall) in all of those game above, with an average of over 23 min per game.

Ok those are some pretty good stats for playing time purposes, I'll give you credit there with the leash theory. I've made my point clear we would be better if Cobb saw the floor more than kj does not equally as much.

As far as I'm concerned I don't think I ever compared the 2 guys. Cobb is definately more suited to being the 1st guard off the bench. My whole premise in this thread has been our actual 2 guard starter and his lack of positive play across the board. I just believe that we need someone, and he may not be on this team right now, become what a (2) guard should be. I would think most programs make that position a premium when recruiting. It's typically a scoring and playmaking position and KJ provides neither.

Fair enough.

My point is shaq had bad games and you were all over him, on the worst performance of the year by anyone you seem reluctant to criticize kj. I'm just wondering why shaq and not kj shaq is 3rd on the team in offensive rebounds.

Go back and find me some quotes where I was all over Shaq after a bad performance. I have had plenty of criticism for Shaq but typically it is more in a general discussion about the team or in response to a thread or topic about him specifically. And I've had some praise for him as well. Don't lump me in with all the bashers on here because that is never me. I've critiqued KJ's game in this thread enough about his flaws as well.

22 mins 0 points holding the ball in the corner and not doing anything with it and letting shot clock get down to under 7 seconds like 6 times. When kj is on offense and he can't make a shot I cringe, he is the worst passer on the team as well

This is a ridiculous assessment. If KJ were the sole reason and were holding the ball in the corner until the shot clock ran down he would called for five seconds at some point and the coach would take him off the floor for refusing to ever pass the ball. KJ gets the ball and passes around the perimeter when he is in there as does anyone. Sometimes they manage to get ball inside. Actually the reason he turns the ball over usually is because he tries to pass the ball inside and doesn't make good enough passes. Yeah he didn't make any baskets but he certainly doesn't run point. When the shot clock gets down to the end you don't pin it solely on your shooting guard. The point guard takes the biggest blame because he's the floor general and the team as a whole takes blame for not running the offense.

This is because KJ is much better in our defense in the half court. Cobb sees the floor and when he plays within the offense and hits shots he stays on the floor. But KJ will get the nod defensively and we all know this is Mick's way. He and Caupain collectively did a great job defensively against Boatright last week and when Cobb came in down the stretch Boatright started getting seperation because Cobb was a second late closing in on switches and coming off screens etc. I think some of you guys are just blinded by who hits a jump shot and that is the sole factor of earning playing time.

In terms of the Cobb KJ debate. Cobb has played pretty well the last two games and Kj has not. However in the 7 games leading up to these last two KJ was outperforming Cobb in many categories. I like Cobb and I hope he keeps going with the pace of the last two games so these stats below are just to show that KJ seemed to be making a turn for the better.

In the 7 games prior to the last two KJ averaged about 24 minutes and Cobb 18.

KJ...9 pts...Cobb 4 (rounding)
KJ...19/47 FG (40%)...Cobb 9/35 (26%)
KJ...10/12 FT (83%)...Cobb 6/6 (100%)
KJ...13-31 3pt (42%)...Cobb 7/27 (26%)
KJ...8 rebounds...Cobb 11
KJ...11 assists...Cobb 10
KJ...10 steals...Cobb 7
KJ...O blocks...Cobb 0
KJ...4 TO's...Cobb 9

KJ was trending up and Cobb was trending down. Right now the roles are reversed which is why we should ride the hot hand. For those of you who are focused on year long stats...you won't see these trends...but they are important IMO.

Getting 3 fouls every first half is not defense the only reason they like him on defense is because he is tall and it will give the pg problems in the zone. Also the uconn game was at 15 when Cobb started guarding boatright so it was over and boatright had to take every shot for them to even have a chance.

That's because we are playing better teams idk how many times it has to be said Cobb steps up in big games and KJ runs and hides period, you can look at all the stats you want but those are facts.

Personally I don't give a damn who plays better each game between KJ and Cobb. As long as one shows up and plays well or both play well it's good for the team. The pissing match between fans about those two is a dead debate. As long as we win who really cares.

Cobb steps up in big wins. But he is 28.6% FG (14-49) in our 6 losses.

chicken or egg thing...maybe we win BECAUSE he steps up and carries the offense - and when he doesn't (or no one does), we lose.

That is why I was done with this conversation three weeks ago. All that matters is the team wins. The coaches have a reason for what they do and the stats don't lie, there is a razor thin difference between the two. My Goodness let it go!!!!!

This is your argument? No one ever gets three fouls in the first half because you sit with two fouls. At least bring facts to the table when you make your arguments.
