This teams offense is actually pretty efficient when there's ball movement and inside out play. Rubles and Jackson are both excellent passers. Mick Cronin has said it several times, "We have to play inside/out and be willing to make the extra pass." When the team executes that philosophy they look good. I think this is accomplished better when Caupain is in the line up. He had 4-5 assists against Temple and I think all came in the second half after returning from foul trouble.

Look at those passes JJ made during the Houston game, when the defense collapsed in. He found someone who was setting up for a wide open 3 cross court. Considering JJ and Rubles are both pretty strong with the ball now and don't get stripped much, we definitely need to exploit the inside.

Now has 1967 points; should pass 2000 during the Louisville game next Saturday.

Over his last 9 games he has been averaging almost 23.5 points per game. Are you freaking kidding me?

How BIG is this senior stepping up his game? I could start a new thread on JJ too.

Maybe SK can teach Dougie how to Dougie

If the criteria for hanging a jersey at 5th/3rd Arena is what it should be, Sean Kipatrick's jersey should be hung when his career is over. Currently, three Bearcats have been bestowed that honor: Oscar Robertson (12), Kenyon Martin (4) and Jack Twyman (27). SK represents everything you would want in a student/athlete. He's been a five year ambassador for the University of Cincinnati. He has earned the honor. Consider the numbers:
Career scoring:
1. Oscar Robertson: 2,973
2. Steve Logan: 1,985
3. Sean Kilpatrick, 1,967
Career minutes played:
1. Deonta Vaugh: 4,310
2. Sean Kilpatrick: 4,023
Career games played:
1. Cashmere Wright: 139
2. Dion Dixon: 137
3. Steve Logan: 135
4. Sean Kilpatrick, Larry Davis, Yancy Gates, 132
Most consecutive games played:
1. Sean Kilpatrick, 132
More SK
*UC record with Kilpatrick: 97-35 (.735).
*3 NCAA tournament appearances.
*1 of 3 Bearcats to score 500+ points in 3 different seasons: Oscar Robertson/Danny Fortson.
*1 of 12 players to represent USA Basketball in Russia.
*Will gradudate with degree in Crimminal Justice.
*Back to back seasons Naismith midseason Top 30 list.
*Three time All-Big East selection.
*Likely American Athletic Conference Player of the Year.
Kilpatrick has developed on and off the court over the past five seasons.
He's become a better person and player. He's become a leader, a closer and the face of UC basketball. He's set a standard that will be passed on and used to measure other Bearcats against for years to come. He's become a player that fans will smile about and tell stories about when they point to his jersey hanging at 5th/3rd Arena.

I thought UC only retired the number of a player if they won National Player of the Year?

If you are going to change the requirements to let SK in, then Steve Logan's #22 should be in the rafters as well. SK, Logan and Van Exel are the best guards in modern UC history.

I would put Kilpatrick in the Logan/Fortson tier, but not the O/Twyman/Kenyon tier. Whether that 2nd group belongs retired or not is debatable, but right now none of them are.

I believe you have to have been a consensus national player of the year to have your number retired according to the current standard at UC. Logan won some smaller NPOY awards his senior season, but he didn't win the big ones. I don't believe Fortson won any his junior year. And SK will almost definitely be empty handed because of the spectacular season McDermott is having.

I don't know if they would consider changing that standard. But as of now, SK's number won't be retired because he won't meet the criteria.

I would put Steve Logan and SK above Fortson. They played 4 years. personally I think a 1st team AA and 4 year player should be recognized for what they have done.

I thought you had to be a 1st team All-American for your jersey to be retired. So many different hypotheses here. Someone from the UC athletic department weighed in on BCN several years ago when we were having a similar conversation. There is a definitive "rule", but I forget what it is. I don't think it's POY, however. That's a shockingly high bar, if true.

If NPOY is necessary to "retire a jersey" I can live with that. But I wouldn't mind seeing a few more banners with names up in the arena even if not retired #'s. I would start with first team AA's. It can only add to the history, memories, and ambiance in the arena IMO.

Start a "Ring of Fame"...we have a storied program...let's flaunt it all we can.

We do honor all of the All Americans on the other wall below the UCATS club. Its not with a big jersey though.

I can say for sure to JerseySean that All American is not the bar that needs to be met. We have had more than 3 of those.

How much fun would it be to go to games when a player was honored by putting their jersey or name up on the wall...retired # or not? You wouldn't have to do it all in one game...spread it out. This is the type of "experience" we are missing at 5/3 arena. Have fun things going on which are outside of gametime.

How many 1st Team All Americans have we had? Let's honor those who have not been honored yet. Don't retire their jerseys...just give them some props and let the fans remember...or even learn who they were.
