This teams offense is actually pretty efficient when there's ball movement and inside out play. Rubles and Jackson are both excellent passers. Mick Cronin has said it several times, "We have to play inside/out and be willing to make the extra pass." When the team executes that philosophy they look good. I think this is accomplished better when Caupain is in the line up. He had 4-5 assists against Temple and I think all came in the second half after returning from foul trouble.

Look at those passes JJ made during the Houston game, when the defense collapsed in. He found someone who was setting up for a wide open 3 cross court. Considering JJ and Rubles are both pretty strong with the ball now and don't get stripped much, we definitely need to exploit the inside.

If you are going to change the requirements to let SK in, then Steve Logan's #22 should be in the rafters as well. SK, Logan and Van Exel are the best guards in modern UC history.

I would put Kilpatrick in the Logan/Fortson tier, but not the O/Twyman/Kenyon tier. Whether that 2nd group belongs retired or not is debatable, but right now none of them are.

I believe you have to have been a consensus national player of the year to have your number retired according to the current standard at UC. Logan won some smaller NPOY awards his senior season, but he didn't win the big ones. I don't believe Fortson won any his junior year. And SK will almost definitely be empty handed because of the spectacular season McDermott is having.

I don't know if they would consider changing that standard. But as of now, SK's number won't be retired because he won't meet the criteria.

I thought you had to be a 1st team All-American for your jersey to be retired. So many different hypotheses here. Someone from the UC athletic department weighed in on BCN several years ago when we were having a similar conversation. There is a definitive "rule", but I forget what it is. I don't think it's POY, however. That's a shockingly high bar, if true.

We do honor all of the All Americans on the other wall below the UCATS club. Its not with a big jersey though.

I can say for sure to JerseySean that All American is not the bar that needs to be met. We have had more than 3 of those.

How much fun would it be to go to games when a player was honored by putting their jersey or name up on the wall...retired # or not? You wouldn't have to do it all in one game...spread it out. This is the type of "experience" we are missing at 5/3 arena. Have fun things going on which are outside of gametime.

How many 1st Team All Americans have we had? Let's honor those who have not been honored yet. Don't retire their jerseys...just give them some props and let the fans remember...or even learn who they were.
