Sean Kilpatrick

We do honor all of the All Americans on the other wall below the UCATS club. Its not with a big jersey though.

I can say for sure to JerseySean that All American is not the bar that needs to be met. We have had more than 3 of those.

OK...didn't know that. Who is up there and what ceremony was used to put them up? Did they bring the players in for it?

I would assume Fortson and Logan are up there. Possibly a few more players from the 60's? Dierking, Bonham? not sure

College basketball only allows the numbers 0-5 to be used on jerseys, so there are only 36 total numbers that can be used. That's one reason I think schools have to be highly selective of retiring a number. If being an all-american were all that it took then you might have 10 or so of your 36 numbers retired. A team like Duke or UK might have 20 or so. I don't know that POY is the criteria or not, but it would make sense. I would say if you have a guy that gets first team AA three years in a row but never POY it would be hard to exclude him. I don't know that Kilpatrick or Logan or Fortson or whoever do or don't deserve the honor, but I will say we don't need 8 or 10 retired numbers up. It becomes watered down and opens the door down the road to keep including players and eventually you can run out of numbers to use.

There are probably 20-25 names up there, including I believe two women's bb players.

This isn't meant to be rude at all but have you been to 5/3? One of my favorite things to do is look at all the names up there and reminisce.

Also I would think JerseySean would have more info on how to get Sean's jersey up there. ;)

SK is the man but I don't think his jersey should be retired. I agree with an earlier poster that he is on the Logan level now: Great, great player but not quite Robertson, Twyman, or Martin.

Why is he not on the level of those three? He is going to be the second leading scorer all-time at a school with a rich tradition. Why minimize his accomplishments. My favorite player ever at UC is Kenyon Martin but I could easily argue that SK's 4 years at UC are greater than Kenyon's.

I haven't lived in Cincy for over 15 years...close to 20 now. I have only been back for a few games at 5/3 unfortunately.

But I do live in Orlando...and guess who I get to watch tomorrow? YAHHH!!!

Thats true, I guess Kenyons retirement was for his senior year for the most part. My point is SK and Logan have had extremely similar careers. When Logan left, I really thought they would retire his number and they haven't. Therefore, I doubt they would retire SK, but it wouldn't shock me.

You know if we lose tomorrow, you will be shunned and I bet Jeff will ban you for jinxing us! :)

I would put Steve Logan and SK above Fortson. They played 4 years. personally I think a 1st team AA and 4 year player should be recognized for what they have done.

You're crazy. Yeah, Fortson left after his junior season, but he had nothing left to prove. Averaged nearly 19 a game for his CAREER at UC. Rebounds galore. Shot 56% career, 62% junior season. Great FT shooter for his position (74% career). 2x All-American, once 1st team, once 2nd team. You can't say enough. I'd have him above Logan, and maybe SK, but I'll wait till the season is over before I decide on that one.

Lance just talked about it on 700. Basically reiterated that SK is the perfect student/athlete and has meant absolutely everything to the program. He said you don't need to be player of the year or win a national championship to be deserving.

I will not let this happen. I have slipped at USF in the past. If I have to be the sole fanatic I will come through. I owe it to this team for them to hear me.

I do believe you have to graduate to even be considered. Has Logan graduated? I agree that he could and probably should have his number retired too.

Too bad he turned out to be a big goon in the NBA. He probably led the league in technicals for a few years....

Guys, it is not that difficult to understand. Steve Logan did graduate and was inducted into the UC Hall of Fame.

The University of Cincinnati will only retire a players jersey if they are consensus National Player. Logan was named 1st team All American and FoxSports and CBS named him Player of the Year but he didn't win the Naismith POY.

Kenyon Martin swept ALL the POY awards and so he had his number retired...

This is not true. Twyman was not POY. That is not the criteria.
