From Justin Williams article (probably worth the $1/month for 6 months).

"But any narrative that the issues with Brannen were limited to a clique of underclassmen or the result of a lone ringleader is disingenuous, according to other sources, and extended to additional players and staff."

Sounds like Brannen created a toxic culture. Cunningham trying to clean that up by firing Brannen with cause. They probably got him on CARA violations, something pretty minor but it's enough to fire with cause.

Brannen probably doesn't want to leave because he wanted to be the coach of UC for his entire life and two because he knows (as do all the fans) that CARA violations is just an excuse for "cause".

But I thought he hated UC & always wanted to
be the coach at Xavier 😜

Sneaking extra practice hours and don’t let loud mouth moms around team. Sounds like a winner to me. More to story

I think the story is becoming pretty clear. Justin Williams quote that I've already given. "But any narrative that the issues with Brannen were limited to a clique of underclassmen or the result of a lone ringleader is disingenuous, according to other sources, and extended to additional players and staff."

The story is Brannen is an ******* or a massive prick. That his relationship building skills were non-existent. That both players (including it seems current players) and multiple staff members did not like him. Enough so that the strength coach was willing to quit rather than continue to work for Brannen.

The narrative of soft players has been pushed by former players for reasons unknown. They were wrong to push it and wrong about it. They had no business pushing it and probably no business being around the program if that's how they are going to act.

Brannen is a massive prick, he made players and staff not want to be here. Created a toxic locker room essentially. That's not a fireable offense, but it was enough that he deserved to be fired. I have no doubt it wasn't just Cunningham making this decision/determination. Administration decided they wanted him gone to prevent the program from being ruined by Brannen's toxicity, searched until they found CARA violations. So he's gone with cause.

That's the story.

There’s likely more than just the CARA violations. We may never know but if this continues long enough we might.

The reality is, based on what we actually know, he hasn’t done anything that’s that bad. We can assume things all we want, the truth is something would have came out by now if there was something. We have parents that are willing to talk, and players that want to defend their self. Yet nothing. Ok, the guy is hard to get along with, big deal. Get over it. Like I’ve said, he’s gone at this point anyway, but I’d be fighting too it if I was him. Especially if that’s the best they got. To Pretty much ruined his career because of basically nothing. That we know of. If you want to fire the guy for being bad at his job, go ahead. But don’t ruin his whole career to save some money. If I’m another coach, I look at that before I come on here

Justin Williams said on lance last night that from everyone he has talked to, everyone has said it’s was not abusive or malicious. But we are destroying a guys career.

All indications are that it was nothing abusive, more like death by 10,000 cuts. A bunch of little things all adding up. But that doesn't really matter. His job is to not just coach X's and O's but also to build and maintain relationships. He failed badly. Many teams had transfers, how many of the said they are leaving entirely because of the coach and went to the AD for an investigation? How many of the had a coach quit as well? How many of them have rumors (via Justin Williams, a reliable source) that some current players and staff do not like the coach?

He ruined his own career. He had two years and put us in a far worse state than where we were when we hired him. This is major level college basketball, you don't get second chances. He's not getting paid 1.5 million to figure it out or learn on the job. He's not getting paid 1.5 million to say "sorry, I'll try to do better next time". His career as a HC is over for an extended period if we fire him, regardless of if it's for cause.

Destroying a career. Destroying a program based on recruits.

Cunningham is a joke

Yeah, I seen we have a virtual meeting with someone today. Not sure what the point of that is. Fire the guy, pay him and move on.

Or waste another week or two, then fire him. Spend another week getting a new coach. Miss out on every transfer and recruit. But hey, save some money

Like I said, then fire him and pay him.

It went from, “brannen is the worst person in the world”, to “he just does a lot of little things wrong” really fast.

The university has better things to spend 5 million on than paying a guy who sucked at his job to leave. If Brannen wanted to get paid, he should have been a better coach.

We shouldn't pay him 5 million because he wasn't quite a big enough ******* for it to qualify as abuse if we don't have to.

Ok. Then don’t be surprised if your football coach sees how you treat your employees and future basketball coaches. Good luck. Basically creating violations to get out of a contract. If you suck, we are going to find cause so we don’t have to pay you, but sign right here

Exactly. Cunningham needs to go. Whether John is the best coach for the job (I'm not sold). But how this is playing out makes the athletic department look incompetent.

So your willing to play out with John Brannen but unwilling to see his this plays out with John Cunningham.

🤔

If he’s so great I’m sure he’ll land a high major head coaching job in the next week or two

He didn’t say he was great. Said he won the conference. Stated a fact. He actually said he wasn’t sold on if he was good or not in his next comment.
