Shaq really reminds me of Jeremy Lamb of Uconn. Think he could have that kind of impact on the wing for this team next year?

His body type will remind fans of Lamb. However Lamb is an excellent mid range shooter and is pretty good from 3. He developed into a great defender as the year went on as well. Shaq has the potential to be that type of player but Lamb was a special freshman, I remember telling my friends that when I saw him in Maui...but Kemba stole the show so no one talked about him.

Went down today. Gelawn wasn't there, don't know the story. Thomas was everywhere. He could be a special player, especially if he can get some strength to him. Couple nice spin moves to beat his defender for lay-ups. Announcer nicknamed him Skittles at one point because of his bright yellow shoes he wears. Interesting to see if that sticks. I kinda like it. Wilks played with the Slats today and between him and Thomas they put up some high flying action. Interesting to see that Tu Holloway was playing with the Slats (more on that later). Jackson seemed to be pouting all day. Davis was running the point most of the game. Glad to see how he would handle it, but he definitely needs work. His court vision doesn't seem there, but it is the summer league, so who knows. Sanders didn't really impress but also didn't disappoint. He does play hard and seems to get himself in good position. Dixon and Kilpatrick as well as Cash were all in attendance. Killa was on the bench the whole game and Dixon joined them on the bench later. Would like to see them suit up if they're in town, but my guess is they don't want to play on teams with other players. Slats had an easy game today even though they let their opponent back in it late in the game. Honestly with Gates and Holloway, who you could easily argue are the best two players in the league this year, they should be the team to beat.

Now back to Holloway, I realize that the hatred we fans share toward X doesn't translate as strongly to the players, but shouldn't it at least translate a little bit? I'll be honest, even though the summer league amounts to nothing, I don't want to see an X player playing on a team with all UC players. I want them to see an X player and want nothing to do with them. Just my opinion.

My friend I hate everything Xavier...everything! Especially a punk like him that throws an elbow at a player because you were made to look terrible for a game. If it has an X on it I hate it. Probably partially due to a divorce in 95 and the eX associated with that...lol

One thing I try to remember about the players and the summer league is that sometimes these guys have just finished lifting. There are going to be days their legs and arms are tired. I really hope people don't get down on 'Maine thru the DSL. His game is more centered to a structured offense. He is also not in the shape he will be in by the time games start. He will be fine.

By all accounts Shaq looks real good. He has tons of talent. Could be a special Bearcat with a more consistent jump shot and strength.

Exactly what I was thinking in regards to Jermaine... for a guy like Shaq his game is perfectly suited for the summer league- not so much for Jermaine... but this kid is going to be a player... don't let his body worry you and don't let his performance in the summer league (where any type of evaluation will be next to worthless in regards to a true, structured team setting) fool you either... he's going to be a good player...

Sunday's Box Score for Slats:

Davis - 12 pts./5 asst/6 t.o.s/1 reb/1 stl.
Jackson - 8 pts./7 reb/1 blk/2 stl.
Gates - 12 pts./1 asst/5 reb/1 blk.
Sanders - 4 pts./2 asst/2 t.o.s/5 reb/1 blk.
Thomas - 23 pts./1 t.o./8 reb/1 blk/1 stl.

Unable to access the box score for Saturday. No line for Gaines on Sunday.
Six t.o.s for JD stands out. Shaq had 23 pts. but no assist. Rebounded well though. Sanders lines always remind me of Bishop's, a bit of everything.

For those wrapped up in how many points are scored by a player in the DSL, Greg Howard scored 30 Sunday...just saying.

Went down tonight to watch SLATS. They lost by like 7 to some guys from Wright State. The guys tweeted before the game that they had a tough workout and you could tell the guys were worn out. But here's some thoughts:

Yancy looked great. He was pretty active, scored on the block, hit some jumpers, and showed great touch on his free throws.

Shaq looked ok. He's effective taking the ball to the rack, needs some work on his jumper and free throws. But once again, he didn't have his legs at all.

Davis was forcing things but I still like his game. He won't 'wow' you with anything but he's just solid. He threw a beautiful bounce pass to Yancy on the break that Yancy THREW DOWN with two hands. Yancy was busting it down the court too, which was great to see.

Sanders looked better today that the first time I saw him. He was active on the boards, was 4-4 from the line, and hit a couple 3s. Like everyone has been saying, his game isn't suited for the summer league and he won't stand out like others. But once the season starts, Sanders will be effective sitting on the perimeter and knocking down shots.

It was my first time seeing Ge'lawn, and I liked what I saw. He needs to tighten up his handle, but that was my only complaint. He has great size, good hops, he's a GREAT rebounder for a guard, and he actively seeks out rebounds.

Jackson wasn't there.

Overall I liked what I saw and each of the freshmen will be great four year guys.

Thanks for the update. It is much appreciated.

I will say Guyn has been very impressive. I dont put much stock into that because Alvin Mitchell tore up the summer league and Jamal Warren was unstoppable there.

I mean, Mitchell and Warren would score, score, and score in these games but not much else. That's why looking at just box scores for these games proves nothing. There are a lot of 'bunnies' scored in this league. In fact, the high scorers in the league are really not the best overall players.

If you actually see them in person though, you can get a good or at least decent gauge on someone's abilities. Guyn probably only had maybe 7-9 points, but was probably the most impressive (besides Yancy). Yeah Shaq probably had a lot more points, but granted most of them were fast break layups, dunks, putbacks, etc. So in the box score it appears Shaq had the 'sexy' line.

Just from seeing a couple games, I know Guyn will be a guy that goes all out (similar to Jackson but more controlled), plays hard defense and rebounds. I know Shaq will be a pain for teams on fast breaks, but needs work on his jumper. I know Sanders has good form on his jump shot and will develop an even better jumper, but will need to get in better shape. I know Davis will mix it up and do a little bit of everything, and he's comfortable using his left hand.

This doesn't mean that each one of them will come in and dominate but as a spectator at the DSL, you can notice and pick up on a player's tendencies, strengths, and weaknesses as long as you don't get too caught up in it.

I really do like what each player can potentially bring to this team next year. The great thing is we do not need any of these guys to carry us, but just for someone to give us a spark one game, then someone else the next. I really like what I see out of this class so far though.

Interesting freshman stats. As was mentioned the players arms and legs were tired for this game. Really showed in 3 pt. shooting where the frosh went a combined 5-17 (29.4 %). They shot a miserable 50% from the ft line. Davis and Thomas were each 1-4. It would have been worse but Sanders shot 4-4. They did alright overall by hitting 18-40 (45%) from the field with Thomas going 8-13.

Thomas- 18pts/7 reb/3 t.o.s/1 stl

JD- 10 pts/3 reb/2 asst/4 t.o.s/1 stl

Gates- 15 pts/1 reb/3 asst/1 t.o.

Guyn- 9 pts/6 reb/1 asst/2 t.o.

Sanders- 10 pts./3 reb/1 asst

Freshman stats from Wed. night July 6th

Shaq: 8 pts/3 reb/1 assist/5 TO/1 steals 24 min
Sanders: 5pts/1 reb/1 assist/1 TO/1 steal 24 min
Guyn: 10 pts/ 4 reb/ 1 assist/7 TO/ 2 steals 24 min
Davis: 14 pts/ 5 reb/ 4 assist/ 7 TO/ 0 steals 26 min

This was my 3rd time down to the DSL and I have been consistently impressed with Jeremiah Davis' play, much quicker and has much better handles than I had anticipted. I LOVE what I have seen from Guyn thus far, lightning quick and a good shot. Gates from what I have seen is playing well (20 pts last night) and Jackson (not there last night) is looking a little thicker and plays with the same passion and intensity in the DSL as he did in the BE tourney. Also good to see Chuck Machok and Mo Egger down at Woodward last night checking out the incoming freshman.

Also saw Dion and Cash down there, I know they are not playing it the DSL but does anyone know why??

Cheikh Mbodj was also there last night. According to the boxscore, he had 5 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 block shots, but did foul out.
