Im Bored, figured I'd note down how each of our players grade out in Synergy's 6 scale measurement (Based on points per possession)

If you grade as an 84%/Excellent in Offense then your better than 84% of other D1 players.

Here is the Scale:
83-100%=Excellent
65-82%= Very Good
51-64%=Good
31-50%=Average
15-30%=Below Average
0-14%=Poor

Synergy is the same Tool that every D1 college around the country uses to scout other teams and evaluate player performance on their own team.

Defense:
Gary Clark: 75%- Very Good
Jacob Evans: 62%- Good
Kyle Washington: 89%- Excellent
Justin Jenifer: 85%- Excellent
Jarron Cumberland: 66%- Very Good
Cane Broome: 95%- Excellent
Nysier Brooks: 25%- Below Average
Trevon Scott: 62%- Good
Keith Williams: 48%- Average
Trevor Moore: 68%- Very good
Eliel Nsesome: 93%- Excellent
Mamoudou Diarra: 81%- Very Good

Offense:
Gary Clark: 77%- Very Good
Jacob Evans: 81%- Very Good
Kyle Washington: 78% Very Good
Justin Jenifer: 71%-Very Good
Jarron Cumberland: 47%-Average
Cane Broome: 76%- Very Good
Nysier Brooks: 79%- Very Good
Trevon Scott: 58%- Good
Keith Williams: 27%- Below Average
Trevor Moore: 92%- Excellent
Eliel Nsoseme: 3%- Poor
Mamoudou Diarra: 21% Below Average

I will note that sometimes defence numbers can be inflated for Guards, as if they get beat by their man and get funnelled into a big, I believe the defensive possession then switches onto the big and they are graded not the PG. So Cane gets beat and Brooks has to step into the lane and help and gets beat, then it could count against his defensive points per possession allowed even though it was Cane's fault.

Thanks for posting. Does Synergy track actual plus minus stats?

What I find interesting about this, and other advanced metrics, is the Williams v Moore comparison as Freshman. The stats LOVE Moore over Williams.

Win shares are 1.0 for Moore, and 0.4 for Williams. The above heavily favors Moore as well. One of the major contributing factors I believe, is Williams 2-17 from 3 this year, while Moore is 16 for 41. Also the 6-16 free throw shooting is a yellow flag for Keith.

I for one am pleasantly surprised with Moore so far, he's actually 4th in adjusted +/- on the team. Also not worried about Williams as a future starter. He's shooting 57% from 2, which is his strength. Just needs to evolve into a better defender, and cut down on turnovers. Both of which will come.

I figure defensive numbers are hard to figure out, similar to defensive stats in baseball.

Anything that has Cane, Jenifer, and Kyle as far better defenders than Gary likely has something off in the algorithm.

I would also imagine our particular style of defense would be harder to grade as we play that weird man/zone combo switching craziness.

This is why I miss those plus minus stats from Stat Sheet a few years ago. You could look at the time Cobb spent on the court with starters vs KJ and easily establish the team was much better with him in the game. At some point Larry Davis figured it out and got Cobb in the game as a starter. It started out Cobb was sitting the first 5 minutes of every half because he was Troy's backup...but there was no real foul trouble issue with Troy so keeping Cobb out when Troy was in was just silly.

Put your best 5 players on the court to start every half. Screw that 6th man BS. I don't buy it. Subbing to strength means you are starting out each half in a weaker position. What sense does that make?

Kyle’s defensive issues are rarely one on one defense. He seems to block shots and try his best to protect the rim.

His issues are mental lapses that leave players wide open. But I think he has made huge strides since the Xavier game. So his defensive issues won’t be a bad grade on him even though he was the culprit of the defensive breakdown.
