When you’re recruiting, you can’t wait around and see who might be transferring . He’s doing that with 2021 and your all over him for not having any recruits. You can’t have it both ways. Which is it?

Mason has played 3-4 games and looks good. You don’t think he can be a good player in 3 years?

I have no idea what the future holds for mason. He could be great. No one knows.

But generally with low ranked guys with limited athletic ability, they have a high floor and play way in their first year or two, but as other players around them reach their ceiling, they play less and less abd get outshined by higher rated teammates,

For example, Trevor Moore (ranked 130
Spots better than Mason) outplayed Keith Williams in nearly every facet in their collective freshman year. But it only took Keith a year to steal most of those minutes back and start nearly every game as a Soph. These kinda players have high floors but low ceilings.

I’d rather us not be put in spots where UC steals recruits from Bradley and Cal Poly. It may work out some of the time but most of the time it’s a Trevor Moore situation and didn’t we hate that about mick ?

I pretty sure the Madsons signed early. It wasn’t even an either/or thing.

Mason is the one guy on this team with out a high major offer (aside from
Mikey, but I guess DePaul is high major by conference
) . If we don’t sign him and just straight up compete for Gabe with out the package deal, then we’d have had an open scholly to sign Adam Kunkel. But the package deal cost us getting a kid who basically everyone said was coming to cincy if we had a spot. We didn’t, so he went to Xavier. He planned on sitting out and getting stronger. Not having a free scholarship is going to haunt the next 2 times we play X and he lights us up

I agree. His ceiling isn’t high. I don’t expect him to be great. My issue was when everyone was talking about how bad he was and wanting to get rid of him before he played a second. That’s stupid. If he can be a solid player that can make free throws at the end of games and stretch the floor, there is value in that. You don’t want a whole team of those guys but if they fill in a roster, that’s great

Trevor Moore is one of the worst players that has ever been recruited at uc. He legit didn’t do anything well. Anyone is going to be better than him

Mason has been on the floor in front of MAW and Harvey at times. He’s playing more than Saunders. At some point you have to ask yourself what is going on? The only reasonable explanation is that he’s more valuable to the coach at this point in time. IMO that is good because those other players are good. He hasn’t dazzled us on offense but something is there for the coach. Could be D? Could be attitude?

Who cares? The coach believes in him for some reason and we aren’t there when those reasons are given to the players

I like kunkle more than most people but you keep acting like the guy is This unbelievable talent. I’m pretty sure he didn’t have high major offers either out of high school. Or did he choose to go to Belmont? So your saying these guys can turn in to good players? Hmm

Who was ranked higher out of high school, kunkle or mason? I’m curious and don’t know how to look that up

To me.. he’s an average player on a losing team.

I just don’t like the way this roster is constructed. And I hope if Gabe is going to transfer, that it does it ASAP so we can add high major players.
Next year looks rough to me:
PG: DJD
SG: Harvey
SF: Davenport
PF: Tari
C: Dou???

Bench:
PG: Mikey
G: MAW
C: Lahkin
G: mason
G: Gabe

And if Gabe returns, he lost a full season of not just games but practice.

Next season says we need to add 2 bigs but man, we need a star guard, but that team above ain’t making the tourney.

What was your opinion of kunkle after 4 games at Belmont and only mid major offers? I’m curious

Who was ranked higher out of high school, kunkle or mason? I’m curious and don’t know how to look that up

Adam Kunkel was unranked.

But usually this far down in the list, if you go mid major, they won’t even grade you, because no one cares. But when a low ranked or unranked player is signed by a high major then they will assign a rank.

Anyone would/could take a player with hind sight. Do we have any proclamations of taking Kunkel before hand? Oh we gotta get this kid?

Maybe there are but in the end we have other players to root for...and it sure as hell ain’t Kunkel

So he turned in to a good player, one that you love currently, from being unranked?

Exactly. No one wanted cronin or brannen to get this kid because he was only getting “mid major” offers. Now he’s a must have and the player that is ranked similar to him in high school is not good enough and has a low ceiling. Ok, got it.

I’m not against mid major players. I’d rather that they not take up 2 years of scholarship time while we figure out if they are good or not. Get them
On the transfer market. Not steal freshman from Schools like Belmont.

Kunkel is not a take in high school. Again you let this quality of player develop in the lower leagues and if they transfer then evaluate.

But his Soph year lead Belmont, a really good mid major who made the tourney both years AK played for them, in scoring. Scored 35 and 16 against 2 high majors that he played.

And again, I wouldn’t expect Kunkel to even start at UC, at least right away. But a scorer off the bench would be huge. A guy used to having all the attention on him,

And he’s local. He’s from Hebron, KY

I wouldn’t take him out of high school. Too huge of a risk, not Kunkel, not mason.

Let them go where they will play more, and if they are truly good, you get them on the transfer.

Jumping through hoops to make it fit your narrative.

If you think the player will be good, or add value, you take them. Right? This doesn’t seem complicated. Maybe he thinks they will both be good. No matter the ranking

Huh ? No I’m not. I loved the cane broom addition and especially with having to sit a year.

My point is firm. Uc is not the place for 2 star recruits out of high school. If at the college level they prove themselves and you have real Game film then yes, go all in.

Adam Kunkel scored 16 ppg on a team that would beat this UC team. He’s a take. Mason out of high school isn’t..

I’m not even sure what Kunkel is doing at X. Is he tearing up the league? Or is he the guy shooting 29 percent from 3 and averaging 1.5 boards and assist?

I will admit I haven’t been watching

My guess... he took them both so he could get Gabe. We were the other school offering both. Shows you brannen didn’t feel too great going against Minnesota and Xavier for Gabe so he had to up the ante.

He recruited a player to cincy who was a perfect fit for NKU... (I personally am not convinced mike Saunders Is high major either, we shall see).
