So top 25 team every year that wins the conference? I would say the program appears to be on track for that. There is room for improvement, but the program appears to be in this direction

The rest of that wall of text appeared to be a garbage heap about how we should be elite and a national brand. Please wake up to the modern sports world, where ESPN decides which games get promoted for college basketball. If you are not UK, Duke, UNC, UCLA, or Kansas, good luck getting air time. Just ask Gonzaga how much being ranked #1 all year got them in national coverage. Not getting national coverage, means not getting elite recruits. Is your mythical new coach, going to use his contacts at ESPN to get our games promoted on TV like UK vs Kansas? Is Mike and Mike going to start talking about UC?

Simply put, times have changed. Try to figure out how to adjust your perspective to the current landscape. Also try posting intelligently.
brother your in trouble now you used the L word.

I think Micks style is very much a product of the two guys he worked for, Huggins and Pitino. Both put a huge emphasis on defense. It was a fact that under Huggins if you don't guard you don't play. The issue is they get and have much more access to better players. We can debate the reasons why they do until the cows come home. My HO is Mick does a very good job with the hand he is dealt. We could possibly do better and I have seen us do a heck of a lot worse.

What's the "hand he is dealt"?

Yet you always do, even when no one is attacking him. You've been posting here long enough to know where I stand yet you're always so infatuated with my opinion of Mick. You think he's the bee's knee's, I think he's pretty good but not great. No amount of long winded, woe is Mick commentary from you is going to change my mind.

I know you're glad I post here Waite, this message board would be a pretty boring place if it was just a bunch of guys sitting around agreeing with each other all the time.

I agree with that. Err wait...lol.

I get where you're coming from in a lot of what you say. HOWEVER I think you are refusing to let go of old narratives. In my mind, Year 3 of Cronin, Year 7 of Cronin, and Year 11 are all completely different conversations. At this point, who cares if we scored 62 ppg in 2014-15? This past season was nothing like that. Next year doesn't seem like it will be either. So why hang on to that? I was right there with you during those times. I'm not now bc what I see AND what the stats tell me is a whole different story. It really feels likes it's a stubbornness that won't allow you to move into the future with the current version of the Bearcats.

What are you even talking about man? Who's talking about firing Mick in this discussion? I know that Mick isn't going anywhere.

I think you need to take a nap before you hit the early bird special. You're not thinking clearly right now.

Oh snap. I know Waite's not about to take that!

Being ranked all year and getting lots of Thursday nights on ESPN are about as good as we can hope for in terms of National exposure. The good news is, the better we are, the more they'll choose us as the premiere game in the AAC on those nights.

I think one of the reasons people tend to get so frustrated with the state of affairs is the general idea that local teams can't seem to catch a break. So it can create an overall negative feeling after years of this happening. Last year's Uconn game and tourney game lost at the buzzer, constantly being shipped out west, difficult matchups etc. I'm not saying we should play victims, good teams make their own luck, but unless you're a top 5 team that can run through the gauntlet you need to catch a break every now and then to be able to make a run. When you see teams like X being consistent year after year but also benefiting from favorable seeding/ matchups it makes it even more frustrating.
Also, when you see teams like South Carolina upsetting Duke you wonder why we can't pull off that kind of upset every now and then. I'm not comparing Duke to UCLA but we tend to rationalize things when we lose to higher seeds. There's no reason why we shouldn't be able to pull of these kinds of upsets every so often

I agree, the past is the past, whether it comes to Huggins or mick Cronin a few years ago. It's about what's happening today. And as I said before hearing mick in the press conference say that he used to recruit guys that were just great athletes but couldn't shoot and that you can't do that in today's game is just a sign of where he's come so far and where he is headed. He knows he needs to still bring it guys with heart that want and can defend but now he knows they need to be able to contribute on offense as well. Our team is headed in the right direction, this year was better than the previous one especially on the offensive end, and I expect that trend to continue into next year.

UC has only beaten one higher seed in the history of the NCAA tournament and that was 3-seeded Florida State a few years ago. Crazy stat.

That is crazy. Glad to say I was there lol Was one of the greatest games I had ever been to and the atmosphere was awesome. Also been there a couple times when it didn't go so well. I.e. the last UCLA game in Pittsburgh.

Ha saw that when I caught up on the thread. You're a good sport.
I can still remember messing with the old guys as a young troop. Turn around is fair play.

The funny thing is I still compete as a body builder and at 60 I competed in the open division and took third against the youngsters. Needless to say I was talking sh#t.

Completely agree. It is just sad that during our Thursday night game, ESPN spends the entire time promoting Kansas vs UK.

UC currently has the ability to get on national tv alot. The reality is we are not going to be marketed as a premiere program (UK, UCLA, Duke, NC) regardless of coach.

All valid points, I just don't think I'll be willing to "let go of it" until I see a sustained pattern of higher levels of success. Let's see what happens next season and the season after. A few years in a row of the type of success we saw this season can be the catalyst to push this program back into an elite status. I think Mick is just starting to turn the corner and while I'm happy that things are improving I still remain skeptical whether or not Mick can get us where we need to be and maintain that level of success. I'm solidly in "believe it when I see it" mode with this coach and I think the skepticism I hold has been well earned by this coach.
