Well now that the season is over for X a few questions.

1. Is X a better program then UC?

2. Does big east affiliation give X a edge in recruiting?

3. Is Mack a better coach then Mick?

4. Can we regain our edge by competing in AAC?

5. Will firing Mick solve our dilemma?

To answer your questions: !) yes, 2) Yes 3) Yes 4) No 5) Depends on who they hire

Fair enough but if they have a edge in recruiting play in a better league and Mack is a better Coach we are at a disadvantage. I'll also throw this out there. Playing in our league as opposed to the big east we do not have the luxury of letting our conference give us a boost in SOS. We are being forced to play teams at their home with no return game. Either that or teams like Michigan back out. Sounds like X is a better job then UC. Is Mick really a whinner or has he got a legitimate beef.

Ok but would it be a coach that considers us a stepping stone job? Our last two hires have been Huggins and Mick. Prior to that you had your Yates, Catlet and Badgers. Doing the math since Jucker our hires other then Huggins have been below average? In your view with what we could pay we could land a good Coach. Do yo really believe we will go after a established coach and offer him Micks current salary. What in our history indicates that?

Gale Catlet was a very good coach...126-44. Badger was an NBA head coach before he came here, but didn't adjust to the college game. Yates was one of our legendary players. Prop 48 killed him. Yes, we could always be a stepping stone. The difference is that we're paying big bucks to our coach. That makes it less likely that we would be a traditional stepping stone job.

The AAC has very good coaches. I think this season was an outlier. It will be a very solid league in most seasons. We can do better obviously, but as long as we continue to attack good coaches, the league will be respected and competitive.

You know I was driving to the airport the morning after X and Gonzaga made the elite 8. On two separate stations the talking heads were asking did the match up of X and Gonzaga do anything for you. I found this odd until I started thinking about what they were attempting to do. Conference realignment is network driven. If you are not in a P5 conference the networks really don't want you to win. Viewership is driving the money train. Matchups are manipulated to increase ratings. With that in mind teams are seeded accordingingly, preseason tournaments slots are filled with this in mind as well. With that in mind I give Mick big time credit for his performance. I guess we could have beaten UCLA but in the end we were not equal in talent and it was much more lucarative for the networks for UCLA to advance.

even considering the fact that as a non P5 member we will always be at a disadvantage? Would you pay a coach Mick money in year one?

i hope your right but then why is UCONN trying to leave. Why are we trying to leave?

oh and Catlet's teams were famous for first round NCAA exits. He also got us put on probation prior to leaving.

Our program has to earn its way back into the national spotlight. Out regular seasons, league tournaments, and march madness performances have failed to move the needle. We made some great progress during this regular season. But, we dropped the ball again in March. Next year, I think we'll take the big jump. It's a critically pivotal season in determining how the next 5-10 years plays out. This will be, by far, the most talented roster in the Cronin era!

how are you going to get more. How much time does Mick get?

I don't know. Just saying it can be both. Not a bad thing for fans to want to win in the postseason. everyone has different expectations for successful seasons. I enjoyed this season a lot. Most enjoyable season I can remember in awhile. If someone wanted to win a couple more games in the tournament, I understand that

This is laughable. 30 wins and he hasn't done enough? Really? So now we are basing everything on a one and done tourney where you have no control over who you play, when you play them and where you play? Ok. Whatever. Anyone who thinks we could get a better, higher profile coach in our current league situation are fooling themselves. I will once again revert back to the "who are you expecting to get" question and then I'll give you 5 reasons why it's not going to happen for each one.

I don't want Mick fired but the "who are you going to replace him with" argument is stale. You don't hold on to a coach because you aren't sure if the next one will be better.

As for the 30 wins, yes that's nice but let's name their good wins. @ISU, home against X, home against SMU. Anyone else? I'm probably missing one but the good wins in a season isn't anything to write home about.

I get the one and done tourny argument, however, when you consistently lose early it's a bad trend. UCLA and UK was a very tough draw. St. Joes wasn't. Harvard wasn't. Creighton wasn't.

Mick is young, but he needs to look himself in the mirror and start making some adjustments to how he coaches and how he recruits.

i share your optimism for next years team. The issue is still not being in the P5 effects scheduling, selection, recruiting and budget. Doesn't mean we can't have a good program just that it means our margin for error is very small.

That probation was a hatchet job by the NCAA, but you are correct. The NCAA tourney was only 32 teams back then, so a 1st round loss wasn't as bad as 1st round losses today,

A coach should be judged on realistic expectations. K St. was a good win. We have been under performing my most people's expectations for years. Have no issue with Mick continuing to grow as a coach.

I find it interesting that when we were in the BE and our OOC schedule was horrible it was because we didn't need to schedule anyone because the conference was so good. Now we can't schedule anyone because we aren't in a good conference. I'm so tired of all the excuses. It can be done if they want it done bad enough.

his first round losses were ugly regardless of the size of the field

All excellent points!

It can be but it means playing on the road with no guaranteed return game. Really a fine line. It also impacts your budget. We are already getting screwed by the selection committee do you really trust them to reward us for losing to tougher teams. Look I have read your post for awhile. Your not stupid. Do you really think the selection committee isn't constantly using their ability to change the selection criteria to determine the teams and match ups they want to turn the most profit. Brother we are on the outside looking in and it isn't going to get better until we get in the P5. We may need a new coach but I have to be honest under the present configuration I really don think the job he is doing could be improved on.

I don't really care about the selection committee. Do what it takes to have a good schedule. If you have to play a 2 for one every once in a while, do it. And win them.
