??? I don't get this. Why wouldn't you hope he stays forever and becomes a Hall of Fame coach?

Jake really think he deserves more from his fan base and it may be the only way to unite them. I also think as long as we remain outside the P5 it will always be the same thing. He is really in a know win situation.

Recruiting

I am amused how in basketball, there are numerous comments about recruiting and not being in a P 5 conference. That it hurts recruiting. And yet in football, when Coach TT was here, no one wanted to talk about it--just throw the bum out! Now, before you jump on me, Coach Fickell will and is doing better than TT because of his Ohio ties. Bottom line, not being in a power 5 conference restricts recruiting.

It did take Mark Few 18 years to break through to the Final 4.

I don't really get the importance of the Final 4 comment. This is a big picture perspective and everyone wants to nitpick little details to fit their argument. Gonzaga has been ranked in the top 20 for almost all of Few's 18 yesrs. He's had decent runs in the NCAA in about 1 of every 3 years including sweet 16s, elite 8s, and now a Final 4. He has put 13 players in the NBA in 17 years. His worst year was 23 wins. He has been in the NCAA for 18 straight years. He has won championships. He makes a Million dollars less per year than Mick Cronin, and he plays in a much weaker conference. I don't believe that the NCAA is the be-all, end-all, I actually place more importance on all the other things.

Yeah I put importance on other things too. Just pointing out how hard it is to make the kind of runs people want. I believe this was only Fee's second Elite 8. It's not easy. We've made in 7 straight years, and that streak won't be ending in the foreseeable future. Not a bad place to be. If we can be at a point where 25 wins is expected, we'll break through at some point.

Your view of UC makes me sad. You make it sound like UC is closer to being Evansville than Louisville. Deserves more from the fan base? How do you mean? When we're good, like we were this year, the fan base is nothing but supportive. And the outlook for next year's team is nothing but positive. Fans want their teams to win stuff. That's why we're fans. This fan base is no different in that regard.

Ideally I think Coach Cronin would stay here for 25 more years. But that's a 2 way street. We need league championship and league tournament championships more than once a decade plus. So to act like Cronin is getting the short end of the stick isn't quite right in my view. I think he gets the respect to he deserves. The fans are happy to have him, but also want more every once in a while.

I see your point Jake . I guess I'm just over reacting to some who post here. I go to the games and enjoy the team. Ideally I want the same things but my anger is what college athletics has become. Mick actually has student athletes. Look at what goes on at schools like UNC, Louisville, SMU and others. Sadly this is the norm now. Mick is always being criticized by some for who he is not as opposed to what he provides in his own hometown. Like everyone I want to win titles. League, conference and NCAA. Jake we had a wonderful season last year. Yet some will always find fault.

You're right that people will find fault because with u.c. it's always on to the next excuse.

1. We praise 30 wins but then say how bad the scheduling is or we play in a weak conference.
2. Say the conference is bad but can't win it or the tourney.
3. Praise tourney appearances because we never make a run once in the tourney.
4. Don't land high recruits so we say mick is good at finding diamonds in the rough.

It will never end. The point is outside of the consecutive tourney appearances nothing of note has occurred. It doesn't for alot of schools, but if you're willing to accept how it is now then everyone needs to lower their expectations. True mid major status.

Unfortunately in today's market that is exactly what we are. A good mid major school. What I am unsure of is if changing coaches will elevate our program or hurt our program. I really think unless we land in a better conference this is really as good as it gets.

Last year we were 1 win from a league title, 1 win from a conference title and 1 win from a sweet 16. We won 31 games, were undefeated at home, lost two conference games and beat our in city rival. i guess by thinking that is a good season in some people's mind I'm settling.

Always 1 win away...or more. I think it is settling. And i don't know if a coaching change makes it better. But i also think it couldn't be worse in terms of significant seasons. I understand it could be worse w/l or recruits. But nothing cronin had done has translated to historic seasons.

i really think operating in the league we are in I don't know if any coach we could get here could deliver much more. But hey we won't know until we try right?

We were also 1 win from 31. We only won 30.

Gonzaga plays in a worse league.
Not once have I said it's impossible. I believe they were the only school not in a basketball only league or a P5 that was in sweet 16. I also don't think our program is far behind Gonzaga

No we are not. They are a nice program but they are not light years ahead of us.

Ummm...

Final 4 this year at least.

Elite 8 1999, 2015, 2017

Sweet 16 8 times since 1999

Win their conference and conference tourney almost every year. Constantly ranked in top 20 ap.

Not really close
