Troy Caupain

I am assuming it's because when he's in, Mick is telling him to walk it up and take it slow. So, Caupain stand there to slow it down even more. With Jenifer, Mick might be telling him to speed it up a bit.

Might sound like I am being sarcastic, but I really wouldn't be too surprised if it's Mick's doing.

One thing I don't get that makes me feel like Caupain isn't a natural PG, is where he gets the inbound pass. The other team isn't pressing, so why stand 2 feet from the baseline to walk it up? Not only are we walking it up, but it is for about 70 feet. You notice Jenifer is usually beyond the 3 point line, and sometimes even fires a chest pass straight to the wing from there. There is at minimum a 3 second difference on when we start the offense. I'll never understand why any college team does it the way we do when Caupain is running things.

Jennifer doesn't throw any wounded duck passes, that's for sure. His passes are bullets. I like that about him.

I get that, but you can walk it up and still give yourself as long as possible to run the halfcourt offense. That's my main point.

Walked the ball up the floor and just dribbled the ball at the top of the key until the shot clock was under 20. He did that almost every time in the second half of the USF game. I stopped counting the number of times and started drinking heavily.

And this is why I believe it's a Mick problem. Even if the ball gets up the court quicker we still won't initiate an offense until the clock gets down to a certain number.

It's for sure a Mick problem. You can debate all you want about players and their talent levels but if you have an issue with the pace at which they play or their lack of movement in an offensive system look no further than Mick.

The only reason to do that is to hold the score down. Doesn't make any sense, especially against crappy teams. But Cronin only trusts his players to do a very limited number of things. Do you think Cronin thinks we have more talent than South Florida? Bc he didn't coach like he does.

I think Cronin thought if the team played a little quicker it would be ok. Then the team basically refused to try on defense in multiple games so he went back to the only thing he knows. I wouldn't expect it to change any time soon, and maybe it won't ever change.

Which is unfortunate, I wish the guys would have put in the defensive effort when we at least played at a bit faster pace.

Mick probably smiles when he goes to bed because he's back to playing his type of ball.

I think the USF game was a little out of the ordinary. We shot the ball extremely poorly even for this team. We are better offensively than we have been so a focus on defense again cannot hurt this team in my opinion.

In 5 league games....

33.4 MIN 10.2 PPG 5.0 AST 2.6 TO 30.1 FG% (19-63) 32.0 3P% (8-25)

Not worried about it, slumps happen particularly for guards who shoot lots of 3's. He knows he had prob one of his worst games of his career last night. I would not be surprised if he was our leading scorer Sunday.

He will score 0 points on Sunday. I guarantee that.

Something we may want to consider when talking about TC's shooting is he has been ending up with the ball in his hands with the clock running down quite a bit. A clock that is 5 seconds shorter. If his weakness is not being able to create for himself, he is being put in a bad spot. The problem is other then Cobb who would you want to have the ball in that spot. I guess my question is, he may be jacking up shots he normally wouldn't take because he has very little options? If you remember the SMU game they ran two defenders at Cobb as he was catching the ball. You do not have to be a PG to be a go to guy. SK was not a PG but at end of game he came and got the ball. I mentioned earlier in a thread that at end of the half last night that Cobb came and got the ball for the last shot of the half. He drove and kicked to TC for a wide open look that he missed. Good move by coach as we ended up with a nice look. It will be interesting to see if this happens more often going forward.

Not to mention those numbers are a little skewed, because he is the guy taking the shot with 5 seconds left on the shot clock and has to try and create a shot for himself. Which are never high percentage shots.

Wow we posted at the same time, but I agree.
