Maybe I'm in the minority here and that's fine, but if we step back and look at the season thus far we have 3 losses to top 15 teams by a combined 6 points.

Did we choke? Maybe.

Did the "proverbial" basketball gods frown upon us? Depe4nds on if you believe that kind of thing.

It's not ideal right now, but it's not the seasons end.

Can we fix it? Yes. I don't know if it will be fixed or not but it CAN be fixed.

I get aggravated watching us this year too, but I'll wait with the stones in my hand, until the seasons end, before casting them.

What is the bar you've set for this team to achieve that determines whether you cast stones at them or not? Will you be happy if they make the NCAA's, do they need a sweet 16 run, or would you be happy if they won the NIT??

Whatever it is...it wouldn't be a huge adjustment to pull out three 2 point losses. I can't blame it on anything specific. Closing out a game is certainly an issue that would help. But there are a host of other things we could get slightly better at which should produce similar results.

I mean in these close games against the better teams we are getting hit from both sides. Our guys are turning it over and missing shots while the other teams are shooting an insanely high percentage the last couple minutes. A lot of that is luck/variance, but this is how it goes. Even with all that, if Ellis just grabs the board last night we win. If a single shot from us down the stretch goes in, we win. Every single thing that can go wrong is going wrong the last 3 minutes.

Inevitably here is what happens. EVERYONE comes out of the woodwork when we lose.

Cronin haters, tempo haters, Caupain haters, etc.

I'm not here to argue any single point. ..but i can easily argue that we could have done one small thing against 3 top 20 teams that would have won us a game. Easiest argument on history.

But we haven't done it. Can we do it?

Sure. Will we do it? I guess I would bet no right now.

WH, the problem is, those other teams are saying the same thing. What one or two things could we have done to avoid letting that team keep the game so close. So, while we're working on our mistakes, those other teams aren't just sitting there waiting to see if we improve and beat them. They're working to get better too. We're always close at the University of Cincinnati. We're almost there. Problem is, we never seem to get there. 10 years is an incredibly fair opportunity to give someone. I know we can't do anything mid-season and we have to let the season play out. I understand. We're just sounding off and frustrated at this point. I'm still rooting to win and I'll still go to games.

Funny looking back at the Preseason polls and Bracketology. We thought they were all crazy. No respect! How could we get the same seed!?!? We have the whole team AND Mick back!...Well, turns out...

The problem is we've basically put ourselves in a spot where we have to win the conference tournament to make the tournament. There are no wins to be had in this league. Last night was really a must for this team. We have smu again, but that probably won't be enough unless we do something crazy like run the table. And who can see that happening from this squad.

Exactly! Good summary!

I don't think that is a matter of speaking to fast. It's something that we see year after year after year with Mick Cronin. Our Talent will always keep us close in a game but a coach earns his check bye winning close games. If you look at all of our loses this year, they all were coaching errors, weather it's drawing up a play or not calling a time out. I'm just saying who gets paid millions of dollars to dumb players down, I thought it was the other way (Developed). Our 2013 class was suppose to be a great class, Then Boom, then we loose Lawrence then Strickland, than Mormon, then Gwen and maybe more! Thanks to Mick Cronin!

When they lost Brown to give them only 6 players, why didn't we adjust our pace a bit and use our depth to wear them down? Is the answer to that simply bc Mick thinks Troy is SK and he needed to keep him fresh so he could ride him down the stretch? I can't think of any other reason why you'd play that slow vs 6 players. Maybe if we had worn them out a bit more and actually made them play some transition defense, they would've been too tired to make all the plays they needed to come back at the end. I mean,Mick did just say this week that our depth might be the biggest key for conference play. Seems weird to be too afraid to use such a big key.

It's not over. That's for sure. A lot of basketball to be played and still don't feel we need to win the AAC. Just beat the teams we should and take at least one from UConn and SMU at home. 26-6 is not bad win the AAC or make it to the championship looking at a 6 seed. We will be alright.

Most years you'd be right, but look at how weak the conference is. Nobody outside of smu is going to do much for our rpi. And while rpi sucks and it does an awful job of ranking the teams, the committee uses is (and puts way too much faith in it). SMU is the only team in the top 75 in the rpi in our conference. That is a MAJOR problem.

My bar at the beginning of the season was a top 15 regular season type year and/or a run in the tourney which would have to be at least the second weekend.

Outside of this I won't be happy. If we don't make the dance...my extremely long leash will be at it's end.

Where did we peak in the rankings this year? #19 or #20? I don't see a scenario where we get back in the polls. Really sad.

I agree that this team lacks a true closer. And it has always been my fear with the way this program had been going. Moving towards more balanced scoring....which is great...but you always need at least that 1 guy who wants the ball at the end and can get his shot. I still think Troy can get there. I had thought early in his career maybe Shaq would. I do think Evans has a chance to be that guy. But it is certainly missing from todays team and its why they are losing.

I will say, that the dumbest thing Cronin ever did was punish Troy for his swagger and taunting in the UCONN game at home....that was the Troy we need....and he killed him just as soon as we got him. Stupid Stupid Stupid. If it was someone with a history of that behavior (I'm looking at you Ellis), then you have to do something. If it's a mild mannered kid you want more from, you tell him you love the passion and keep it, just play with it and talk less and let him go on.
Maybe Mick is fake tough guy. Your definitely on court o something. Troy was growing up in that game. Just like jenifer now, he's terrified to make mistakes because of mick. Mick lost me when he picked up moore(nic) off court when he had his own still on court

I asked everyone in off season how was this shitty group top 15? Everybody was posting weight room updates. Seriously??? We've been out roughed in every game even wins

We did actually start pushing pace. Went up 5-7 and went into prevent again. Choke-pain is amazing

There were a lot more than weight room updates. Perhaps your memory is failing you right now. There were a lot of reasons mentioned. You seemed to glob onto the weight room issue as if someone...shit ANYONE...thought that was THE reason we were going to be good. Be honest with yourself...

It's easy to pile on right now. But we are literally 3 possessions from being a top 10 team. Is that an excuse? Sure. But that's how close we are. All we need is for the light to come on somewhere. The coach...the players...something....anything.

Actually agree with you for once. It's the same crap every year in the offseason.....Mick waxes about improved offense and playing a new brand of hoops, the players snap photos in the weight room, everyone talks about how XYZ player added 25lbs of muscle, some moron on here predicts a Final 4 and everyone goes nuts because of one summer league game or a scrimmage.

Then the season starts and it's the SAME OLD CRAP EVERY YEAR.

We're three possessions away, except for the fact that you keep forgetting about the home loss to a .500 team, plus basically a non-competitive effort against X. So, we're much, much, much further than 3 possessions from being a Top 10 team.

I find it funny that after the VERY FIRST loss where we allowed over 70, Mick was in postgame calling out the "geniuses" during a press conference. But we're actually 0-2 now playing Mick's preferred, under 60, grind it out ball.
