It's definitely both. They have serious talent issues right now and truthfully they have Micks whole tenure. Even Killa and Deyonta Vaughn were just volume shooters and the best players on bad teams. Theres a reason none of these players have made the league. Micks offense stinks watch a Tarheel or UK or anyone for that matter and youll see more movement in the first 3mins than CATS have moved in the past decade. And for people saying that they dont pass it to where there supposed to. Thats really not what you do in BB. If you know or are forced to make a pass to someone just cuz thats the play then they are the worst team ever. You coach grade school kids to make passes to people at certain times. These kids by now should be giving it to the open man or the man who has best option to score. Or cut back door for a lob. Excuse me I just threw up in my mouth. They havent ran a backdoor since the stud IMAC graced US with his presence. Hell McElroy was better than any player we've seen in Micks tenure. I defended Mick and like him and thought he could do it. But now IM about to jump ship because I really think he was only a good recruiter for Pitino and Huggs, not himself. And the ineptitude to make an inbounds pass against pressure for 10 years IM completely done with. It's time for BB IQ not length and athletic. I havent played in 8yrs since tearing up my elbow and I guarantee I'd school Shaq Thomas and Sanders all day amongst others over the years and thats who we count on to score. Ellis has played good but when hes been your best player by far thats saying something. I'm about done. It's not exciting it's flat out embarrassing to struggle to get 40 every game. I'm asking Santa for a Montrezll Harrell jersey. Sorry CATS fans at least when I had season tix the whole Huggs era I got to see great players, plays, and great runs. Good memories are being tarnished right now by this play. To think the BIG O pre shotclock averaged about what our team does. People it's not even an arguement it's Talent and Coaching. It's very obvious. VCU just treated us like bitches on our floor. Hell at least when Huggs was here if a game like that was going to happen ( which it rarely did) someone was there to start playing rough, banging heads, and scaring the crap out of them. I'm also sick of recruiting people that you know will never play or be good and never were good just cuz there tall and jump high. SEE YA ITS BEEN REAL.

No it's not. They get shots that good players should make. They do not make them. It's a talent problem. Not a system one.

I've posted their offensive rankings over the past 5 years in another thread. You cannot possibly say that their talent level is below their offensive ranking level. They are more talented than many of the teams that have more efficient offenses then them. The offense doesn't create nearly enough good looks. That's been a problem since Mick has started here.

Where does anyone get off saying they are more talented than other teams. Jumping and being tall are attributes of a person's athleticism and height not TALENT. So is Manute Bol the best player ever. I never heard someone say Shawn Bradley is the most talented player ever. There is no talent on this team. Trust me I wish there was but IM not going to sugarcoat something it's not. Call a spade a spade. Shaq Thomas starts for this team NUFF SAID.

It's a talent issue and a scheme issue. They start the offense 35-40 ft out every time they run a set play. This might also be the worst fast break team I've seen. I still have hope for the future, but my expectations are consistently lowering each year which is not what you want in a program.

I saw some pretty good beatdowns in the 80's and I'm sure you did too. It's absolutely amazing you don't think losing Mick 90 minutes before that game didn't hurt. It was evident in the way the game was coached he was sorely missed. You sight the Nebraska game as proof but they played good defense in that game. Again, I AM NOT saying that is why they lost but it affected the game.

Come on Jeff. Many have questioned just how good this defense really is. We looked good defensively against Nebraska for the same reason that every team looks good defensively against us. They suck offensively. That team was a complete joke. Two words describe that team best.....Incarnate Word. We faced a good offensive team on Saturday and saw just where our defense is. We really didn't compete. We don't really have any idea what the Mick effect was. They could have been fired up to win one for the gipper and could have been giving 120% and just got beat. You don't know and neither do I.

I don't know that we win easily, VCU is a good team and they came to play today. Without Mick, though we weren't ready to play and it was evident. I think with Mick we would've played a tough game rather we won or lost. You are 100% correct that we need Mick back. There are more important things than basketball and he needs to take care of his health first and foremost. I hope he can make a speedy recovery but only time will tell.

Thank God. Dont let the door hit you in the ass on your way out. Also the statement I put in bold is ridiculous. Justin and SK ran the back door (beautifully I might add) all last year. Justin would get it in the high post, SK would flash high, and then go back door and Justin would feed it up that led to many easy layups.

Yep. SK and JJ 100% used that on multiple occasions in their 2 man game. Kind of a random thing for someone to nitpick about, especially if it isn't even accurate.

Would you say that the 2013-14 Bearcat team was a good shooting team? UC shot the same percentage last year that VCU did to date before the game, 34%, Saturday they shot 48%. They shot worse from 2 than 3.

The thing about VCU that jumped out at me is that they shoot mostly 3's, don't rebound too well and don't get to the line, once on Saturday. That is a recipe for a big win or big loss.

to be fair to Caupain and the scouting report, Johnson and Burgess were shooting 32% and 30% from 3 and Larrier was 28%. Those 3 went 9-17.
