Coach Cronin said himself that he needed his defensive lineups out there against them yesterday. That's who he is, that's how he thinks, that's who he'll always be.

Apparently the only player that doesn't qualify in a defensive lineup is Kyle then. Because we are going to play Gary, Jake, and Jarron for 35 minutes and Cane was in there for 28 compared to 11 for Justin.

I get it...Kyle has some D issues. But he has been the highest points per 40 minute guy the last two years and he's pretty efficient at it. And he can make a three! He must really really suck on D. Like really suck

we were still +3 with wash on the court when broome was with him. its not like wsu was just scoring every single possession vs washington.

and eli made some mistakes too, specifically he made the wrong switch and gave up a free layup.

there is just no way using eli is better than washington. i mean come on mick, what are you doing.

I have a hard time believing that playing Nsoseme, Brooks, and Jenifer over Washington or Broome is the solution. So we should start there.

He's not going to have this much potential on offense for a while after this year. If he doesn't relax his stance a little (more) this year...he's never going to do it.

Jake is not doing very well lately in his new role. It's time to get back to 5 on 5 basketball for God sakes! 5 on 5!!! Playing in positions they were designed for!

I still can’t believe Cronin took Washington out with less than 3 minutes played, Uc with 4 points, all Kyle. Said at the time and saying still this morning, that was one of the dumbest coaching moves I’ve seen in a long time. That loss is mostly on Cronin. Awful game for him. Let’s see if he learned his lesson.

maybe next time we play wsu they'll bench morris for us. and not start shamet too.

It's sad that that's a joke but it's literally what Cronin does.

People say UC isn't able to get top recruits but how do we know this isn't because of Cronin? If you're a top recruit who plays lights out offense and decent defense why would you even think of coming here because you know you aren't going to get a chance to show what you have. There's no reason for a recruit to come here if they want to sniff the NBA because Cronin cares more about deflections than ppg.
Why is it unfair to think Cronin may have reached his ceiling with the program and think there may be someone who can do more?

I think it had to do with the easy dunk where nobody was within 5 feet of the guy. Cumberland looked at Kyle like... what was that.

My thing right now is...we are past the point where putting players in "time out" for extended minutes isn't doing any good. Take them out...let them know why they came out and put them back in. The time to do this was early or even mid season. It's not as effective now late season. These guys know when they f-up. No need to treat them like children.

I just don't get it though. Bc Evans started the game by literally just walking away from Shamet and giving him a wide open 3. First basket of the game. By Cronin's rules, shouldn't Evans be pulled out of the game? Broome isn't allowed to rack up any TOs, but Evans and Cumberland combine for 7. Why do only Broome and Washington have to be perfect?

I agree with you. It's time to go with the best guys and trust that you've coached them well enough. Players determine our fate? Well then put the best players on the floor and let them do it.

I liked Kyle even more after that cause he would not sit down on the bench...stood the whole time waiting for Cronin to get his head out of his butt.

What a frustrating game. Wichita is good. They did a great job of creating mismatches.

I hate blaming refs and I think Wichita state beat us yesterday regardless, but damn if they didn't get every call when it counted and two or three really head scratching calls.

It's a tough loss to swallow and as bad as it seemed it was only a 4 pt. loss to a really good team that played really good, shot really good, etc. I thought our effort was great. Our other three losses I can say effort/focus was an issue. Not yesterday. At the end of the day it's another loss to a quality opponent with probably only one win vs. quality opponent to counter. That doesn't cut it for the naysayers or the selection committee. Metrics can only take you so far. You have to beat somebody.

I, too, think it's time to give Cane the nod at starting. He played well yesterday within the system and clearly made a difference. I know I've been his biggest critic on here and honestly a lot of that is just to counter the love he gets on here that I seem to think is a little short sighted, but Jenifer is really bringing nothing to the table. It's clear when the talent gets better his talent doesn't match up. Cane, to me, isn't good enough to run the team around, but he actually brings something to the table. And since our bigs are soft, we have to rely on our guards in games like yesterday and it's clear that's when you need Cane.

I was scratching my head too at why Washington kept coming out, but my guess is he was getting destroyed on defense/rebounding. With as big as Shaq Morris is, I can kind of see why Mick tried out Nsoseme on him. The flip is you take a big weapon out of your offense. I actually thought Nsoseme gave us really good minutes yesterday considering his talent/maturity level and going against a guy with Morris' talent/maturity level. I don't know why Brooks got in over Washington so much though.

If losing these two games actually convinces Cronin to go with Cane the rest of the year, then those losses were well worth it.

Worst thing that could've happened would've been squeaking out two lucky wins, only to never make the change that has been needed all year.

All we can hope now is that he pulls the trigger on it.

yeah, i don't know what the argument would be to keep playing jenifer extended minutes. I don't know what he gives you. I would rather bring in trevor or keith and see what happens. We all were high on this team because we thought cane could be at least as good as troy. It's time to just give him the ball and see where it takes us. The other way isn't going to beat good teams.

Probably realistic. Home court loss to a 19 ranked team. Massive crowd support and home winning streak

If so, they have plenty of company. Over 40 top 10 teams have lost to unranked teams. Kansas has 4 home losses. UK has several. Villanova lost at home to last place team in its conference. WSU lost to SMU and OU at home, etc.

Unfortunately we all know Mick isn't going to change. There is 100% chance JJ starts next game.

He used to do that with Lance Stephenson all the time. I never understood it. Lance would get hot, score 5-7 straight points, then Mick would bench him.

I hope you're wrong, but sadly I doubt it. It doesn't help that the local media is never going to ask him a hard hitting question on this because it risks costing them the access they need to do their job. And really, I don't completely blame them for not asking, because he'd just be dismissive, condescending, and act dismayed someone would ever question him.

Those other teams also have good wins. We lack in that category.

If they aren’t hungry against playing the 2 best teams they have played in a month I don’t know what will get them there. Especially one at home
It's a long shot, but we have the ability, but will need to play over our heads a little. Can't have 4 guys have bad games.

Let's not hang our heads. When Hub is down, I know this really hurt. It of an old thread and I'm behind.
