What a frustrating game. Wichita is good. They did a great job of creating mismatches.
I hate blaming refs and I think Wichita state beat us yesterday regardless, but damn if they didn't get every call when it counted and two or three really head scratching calls.
It's a tough loss to swallow and as bad as it seemed it was only a 4 pt. loss to a really good team that played really good, shot really good, etc. I thought our effort was great. Our other three losses I can say effort/focus was an issue. Not yesterday. At the end of the day it's another loss to a quality opponent with probably only one win vs. quality opponent to counter. That doesn't cut it for the naysayers or the selection committee. Metrics can only take you so far. You have to beat somebody.
I, too, think it's time to give Cane the nod at starting. He played well yesterday within the system and clearly made a difference. I know I've been his biggest critic on here and honestly a lot of that is just to counter the love he gets on here that I seem to think is a little short sighted, but Jenifer is really bringing nothing to the table. It's clear when the talent gets better his talent doesn't match up. Cane, to me, isn't good enough to run the team around, but he actually brings something to the table. And since our bigs are soft, we have to rely on our guards in games like yesterday and it's clear that's when you need Cane.
I was scratching my head too at why Washington kept coming out, but my guess is he was getting destroyed on defense/rebounding. With as big as Shaq Morris is, I can kind of see why Mick tried out Nsoseme on him. The flip is you take a big weapon out of your offense. I actually thought Nsoseme gave us really good minutes yesterday considering his talent/maturity level and going against a guy with Morris' talent/maturity level. I don't know why Brooks got in over Washington so much though.
