Former Chesterton, Ind., big man Mitch McGary gets better every time he steps on the floor. The 6-10, 255-pound McGary is in great shape, runs the floor, hustles and does a little bit of everything. He is now at Brewster Academy and said Indiana is still in the mix. Other schools showing interest are Duke, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Maryland, North Carolina and Kansas.

Mitch McGary, who is originally from Chesterton, Ind., has been one of the stars on the AAU circuit this spring for the SYF Players.

The 6-foot-10, 255-pound McGary spent last year at Wolfeboro, N.H., Brewster Academy and reclassified into the Class of 2012, noting "it’s all worked out great for me."

Now, he’s considered one of the top prospects in the Class of 2012.

"It’s been blowing up the last couple of weeks," McGary said at the adidas May Classic in Bloomington. "It helped me all around going to Brewster. I’ve gained 30 pounds, but cut out all the fat and my grades are better."

Some of the top colleges in the country have taken notice and are now calling, including Kentucky and Louisville.

When asked for a list of schools showing interest, McGary reeled off: Duke, Texas, Arizona, Florida, Florida State, Michigan, Indiana, Purdue, West Virginia, Connecticut, Kentucky, Kansas, Memphis and Louisville.

"I’m really wide open," McGary said. "I probably won’t make a decision until late."

McGary said Indiana has shown interest but noted, "I don’t know if they have any scholarships?" He said the interest from UK and U of L has been recent and he has talked with assistant coaches from both schools.

"They both said they wanted to recruit me pretty hard, so we’ll see," he said.

Some of the schools he already has offers from include: Texas, Arizona, Oregon State, Texas A&M, Cincinnati, Purdue, Indiana, Florida, Miami, Maryland, Marquette and Illinois.

McGary is listed in the rankings anywhere from the 60-80 range but most analysts believe he’ll be a top-30ish kid by the end of the summer.

We've postulated for a long time that 2012 would be the year of the big man and our No. 4 prospect is far and away the fastest-rising player in America. Mitch McGary (Chesterton, Ind./Brewster Academy) reclassified to the 2012 class and enrolled at Brewster Academy, which has paid off. Armed with an attitude and a restructured body, the Indiana native made the biggest leap onto our list. He's a spot ahead of No. 5 DaJuan Coleman (DeWitt, N.Y./Jamesville-Dewitt) who is high school basketball's version of Zach Randolph.

I've been out of the recruiting scene for a month or so....and holy shit has this kid risen up in the rankings. I thought he was going to be option 2 behind Hammons but wow. Thankfully Mick put in the work early with this kid but it will be way too tough to beat out the powers for this one.

I disagree I think we have a legit shot at him. He has been here before and I know he wants to come again. Right now I would say we are up there for him like top 5. It really pays off on getting in early on a player before he completely blows up. Hopefully this one really does pay off in a huge way.

BTW up to #4 in ESPN's rankings

I'd say we've got about a 20% chance with McGary... the way he's blown up it will be extremely tough for Mick and Co. to pull off... getting in early was good, but in the end we know that only counts for so much... I think the chances get better the longer Mitch plays out his recruitment (assuming Mick stays after him strong)... I think that persistence is a main reason why Marquis Teague was so close to pulling the trigger at the end of his recruitment for Mick... Cronin had recruited the kid for a loooooong time and had really built a strong relationship.

I won't comment much on the Teague stuff, but Mitch McGary is going to have his choice of schools. Hopefully he remembers there was a coach who has stood by him thru his grade issues and watched him flourish.

UConn will have a big weekend visitor in Mitch McGary, a 2012 PF out of Brewster (NH).

I didn't want to get into how it ended in terms of his choice (and why he made it)- just pointing out the fact that UC was there the entire way and it did play a role in our positioning with a (high profile) recruit.

No buddy I wasn't implying anything. I agree with you.

TheRecruitScoop 2012 Brewster (NH) forward Mitch McGary tweets that the UConn staff wants him to come as a 2011 player. UConn has a scholarship available.

Isn't UCONN losing scholarships because of their cheating? How in the hell do they have scholarships available?
