I don't think we were saying he won't be good. But the bearcats are trying pretty hard to get a pg in the 2013 class...and if they get one of the transfer pg wouldn't you say Guyn is perceived to be the backup pg or one of many sg's?

No, it means that Mick is looking for depth. Whoever is the better player will get the minutes. With the style Mick wants to play, he is going to need more than 1 PG on the roster. When Cash is gone, who are the PGs on the roster? Guyn and JD. If JD plays the 2, you no longer have a back up PG. This team is thin right now at 2 positions. The 5 spot and the 1. You can get away with being thin at the 5 in college ball but you will get crushed if you don't have depth at the guard positions.

BTW, they're looking at pg's in 2012.

You're right. None of us can see the future and there are so many scenarios. So when cash is gone I could see a line up with killa at the the 2 and shaq at the 3. That would leave Davis, guyn, or a transfer/2013 recruit as the pg/back up pg/back up 2 . Not counting any other guard recruits they get of course.

I like guyn, a lot actually, i would rather see him play the pg than the 2 he's very energic and push the ball well, he just needs to adjust to the pace of college basketball, he is a good shooter and a great defender he is a little too quick if thats possible.

Guyn shot 39% from the field and 27% from 3 and 64% from the ft line. He was not a good shooter. the game will slow down to him and he will learn to slow down and allow the game to come to him. GG will be a lockdown defender by his senior year. He will be a good player. He isn't going anywhere.

I still can't believe we are making this type of judgement on an individual who had limited time during his first year in the program.

What judgement? His shooting wasn't my judgement, it was statistical facts. As for the other things I said, I'm just giving my impressions of what I saw this year. Never said he wouldn't be any good. I didn't realize we aren't allowed give our evaluations of players. I'm guessing if I said I thought he was going to be a first team all big east you wouldn't have had an issue. Some of you need to relax and not blow a gasket anytime a slightly negative thing is said about someone.

I agree.

I think you need to relax, I commented on your assessment, didn't personnally attack anyone. You said that he didn't have the handles to be a point guard, someone else said he will never start at the 1 or 2. My opinion (and yes everyone may disagree with me) I just can't believe that someone can determine what a player will be able to do by the time he is an upper classman based on his play as a freshman.

Now to your comment about blowing a gasket anytime something negative is said. It just cracks me up when I hear that comment. At what point in the game was it outlawed to argue a point. I like constructive criticism. I like posts that make me think. Your's made me think, I just didn't agree with the assessment on Guyn. If we can't argue anymore what is the forum worth.

Feel good that I responded to your post, I don't bother with the mindless "Mick is the best thing since sliced bread" conversations.

G'lawn will never be a true point guard but will be a very good asset to the team with his defense. If he can develop like jamal warren I will be very happy with that type of player. Tough on the ball defense is what can make or break a tourney team.

TheLongHaul only purpose it seems is to temper others expectations or feelings about players, never seen the guy/gal post anything worthwhile that contributes to discussions.

I don't think your post commented on my assessment whatsoever but that's fine, I didn't really consider it a personal attack or really care if someone did attack me personal.

I totally agree with your second paragraph, and my bad, you are right about you not being one who thinks Mick pisses gold (don't get me wrong, I'm in Mick's corner). It just seems anytime criticism is given there are some that freak out like we just killed someone's dog. I admit I tend to be on the more critical side but maybe that is because I have higher expectations. It's not like I don't enjoy watching these players or think they are all bums.

As for my comment about Guyn, as I said, I think he can play a specialist role of some sort on this team. From what I have seen so far, his handles don't seem good enough to be an effective PG. Again, that is based on his play last year. He definitely can improve and I hope he does. I just like what I've seen from Davis better.

No problems!!!!! :D

Instant impact next year RT @DaveTelep: We've got a Chris Obekpa sighting with New Heights. Must be trying to break AAU shot block record.

Eric Bossi ‏ @ebosshoops
Mick Cronin is on Chris Obekpa watch again. 2014 PG Tyree Griffin of New Orleans elite isn't big but he is tough.

Mick doing everything he can...
