Yeah, I don't think he's signing today.

G81 - I don't think Mick forces his hand either because I think the scholarship is his and if he chooses elsewhere, we keep it for 2013, just my opinion.

Wait you mean we are still offering this guy. How could Mick do that to us fans. I mean shouldn't we pull the offer because he didn't sign on the earliest opportunity. How dare he make us fans who chanted his name sweat out the most important decison in his youong life. LOL (Sarcasm) Hope the reports are right and he signs. Gives us a real defensive force in the middle. Good things come to those who are patient.

Not sure what to think about this. I tend to lean toward hearing something today. Adam Zagoria has a pretty good pulse on the New York recruiting scene. He knows everything that we do. He knows Cincy has been the front runner, he knows the saga that has gone on with Obekpa's recruiting. He obviously heard something new or he just wouldnt report it because its the last day to sign. I think we are going to hear something today, but I do understand the reservation. This recruitment has been all over the board and I guess nothing would surprise me at this point. Hope he is a bearcat....

Killa just randomly tweeted "excited for the 2012-2013 season". Inside knowledge hopefully?

Tend to agree with JackBauer on this one. Last day of the signing period or no, it seems doubtful Zagoria would tweet old news with "according to sources" attached. Sounds like new info to me. Not saying he will sign today, but dubious that he would say anything about Obekpa unless it were new, given the flaky nature of his handlers.

We shall see. I assume he is in school until 330 or so. Will be very interesting to see if we hear something.

regardless, it doesn't matter if he signs today or not. he can sign a financial aid package anytime between tomorrow and the end of the second week of first semester/quarter in the fall after the academic year has started. a number of guys do this- i.e. lance stephenson in 2009. if anything, it is more beneficial to the player because it is not binding like an LOI is.

But Zagoria didn't say that Obekpa would sign today. He just said today is the last day to sign. I think he chose his words purposefully.

It does matter for the reasons you just stated.

I find it interesting that it was Zagoria that tweeted the news because Zagoria always reported he would take his visit to Oregon. And Obekpa's high school coach was the one telling Zagoria the visit would still happen. So I wonder if those around his high school might be some of the sources Zagoria tweeted about?

my point was that today isn't do or die.

Looks like I was wrong...

With the NCAA late signing period coming to an end Wednesday, it appears that Devonta Pollard and Chris Obekpa will remain on the board.

Neither has surfaced to say they have signed a Letter of Intent and getting quality information on either player is tantamount to prying secrets out of North Korea.

Multiple sources told SNY.tv that the 6-foot-9 Obekpa is leaning toward Cincinnati but it is still possible he could take other visits, too. He also lists Providence, DePaul, Oregon, St. John’s and UConn.

This is at least encouraging. First time we have really heard someone say he is going to be ready to decide soon.

Guys I know its fun to track recruits and speculate but He will sign when he is ready to sign. I think he becomes a Cat and that is a good thing regardless how long it takes.

I don't get it. If he signs within a week why not just sign now. Wouldn't you want the phone calls to stop. At first I think it would be cool to get this attention but it would get tiresome after awhile. Now even if he verbals other schools are going to still bug him.

No matter what Mick and company now have to stay in touch with him to make sure he continues to consider us and to feel the love. Even if he does commit he has to do that. That will only hurt the team he hopes to play for because now Mick has to babysit him when he could be doing other things.

Please don't give me this crap about Mick should be able to handle this. Of course he will but you only have so many hours in a week. I would like my coach to work hard but as a father it is important for him to have family time as well.

I'm not writing this to be mean I just don't understand what advantage this gives him. I believe he must be really conflicted on if he/his handlers wants to come here or is they are waiting for a better option.

Guys unless I'm way off base this is how I got it figured. He is a very heavy Cincinnati lean. This has been reported by a few recruiting sites. MC has done a good job recruiting him. His handlers want him to visit Oregon because of their and Oregons affiliation with Nike. It has been rumored that Oregon has cooled on him and are moving in a different direction because they understand he perfers Cincy and cancelled the visit. He has probably given his word that he would visit the campus and is being pressured to go. His handlers have talked with Oregon and rescheduled the visit in hopes it will change his mind. He feels he needs to take the trip and will. When that has been accomplished he will make his decision and we can put this to bed. Still think he ends up a Cat.

I understand what you are saying, but you need to look at it more from the players perspective. What would he care if he gets a lot of phone calls. Hell, if I were a kid that waited this long to make a decision, I'd just give the school my commitment and then wait and sign the scholarship papers as long as nothing changes.

There are way too many times that a kid signs the binding NLI papers and then something negative happens (coach leaves, fired, players transfer etc) and that kid is then stuck with a situation he never would have agreed to and now has to hope he can get a release or lose a year in transfer if he wants to get out. Just look at all the transfers this year, particularly Va Tech where an NLI was signed and now they want out because the coach was fired. I believe Harrell has yet to be released, in fact.

From the kids' point of view, and their one of the top recruits, I don't understand why any of them sign, especially this late in the game.

You make some good points. I guess the problem could be that Mick is not forcing his hand. If he knows UC will keep a scholarship open no matter what for him then why not keep your options open. I personally would have forced his hand. Either sign the papers or not your choice. As coach I have other things to do. No matter what I wish you the best of luck in your decsion. You have 5 minutes use them wisely. ;)

What I don't get is if you are a top prospect why you would sign early. Those phonecalls could get annoying though but I hate phone calls.
