Gary Clark Visits N.C. State, Has Trips Planned
August 1st, 2013 10:26 pm
Gary Clark, a 6-foot-7 power forward from Clayton (N.C.) High School, visited N.C. State Thursday and has several other visits planned.

An underrated big man who can score inside and out, Clark averaged 17 points and 14 rebounds two years ago and was named to the Associated Press All-State team last season, according to HighSchoolOT.com.

“He is a player who is very good but not a finished product,” Clayton coach Denny Medlin told SNY.tv. “Nobody knows what his ceiling is but he’s going to keep getting better, and he’s already very good.”

Medlin said Clark is also considering Miami, Cincinnati, Clemson and Wake Forest.

He is set to take an official to Cincinnati Sept. 13-15, and plans to also visit Miami.

uh oh...thats a friday:eek:

Never underestimate the persuading ability of watching a game at Nippert; then again I said that about Perry too.

It is always very telling where the coaches go on their first day recruiting away from campus after end of summer quiet period. Gary may have very well moved up the pecking order to become the top target. Have to wonder about Quadri Moore. Things have been very very silent in his camp for a while now.

Moore and Carrington both have hoped other players would involve themselves in their recruitment. Its going to be a very interesting next six weeks.

if clark comes i will be extremely happy.

i never want to see a uc front court struggle like they did last year. it was down right embarrassing at times. with clark uc would have options with lineups and subs if things get ugly under the rim again.

hoping for more good news tomorrow!

I really really hope he commits to UC but here is my concern. The timing could both be considered optimal and not optimal at the same time depending on how you view the Moore commit.

It is optimal that we are the last visit. What scares me a little is that it's the day after Moore commits. Last I heard Clark was going to wait to make a decision after more visits. I have heard that Moore's commit in no way endangers our chances with Clark but I am still a little uneasy to say the least.

Please tell me I am reading too much into this:)

Could help or it could hurt to have Moore commit today, maybe it will make him realize he could come to UC and possibly team up with Moore and Grantham. Also could discourage him and make him want to go somewhere else for more PT.....

Thanks. Yah that was my fear. I think it all depends on where we think Moore is going to get his time on the court. Low post or on perimeter. If the perception is that Moore is going to play more of a perimeter forward then I think it hurts our chances with Clark. If it is determined Moore will be playing on the baseline I don't think it hurts our chances with Clark much.

For some reason I am thinking there is no way we land Moore, Clark and Grantham since we already have Lawrence and Thomas (unless one of them is a tue 4 or 5). I think we are going to get 2 years out of both of those guys making PT (or at least the perception of PT) a rare commodity for incoming recruits.

As far as Grantham goes I am not sure what MI has lined up at the 3-4 spots. We have Lawrence and Thomas and possibly Moore and Clark depending on where Mick puts them. If we land Clark that's going to look like heavy competetion at the 3-4. Like I said I don't know what Michigan has lined up at the 3-4 but I have to believe it's going to affect his decision.

NC State's Scout board has been following Clark's recruitment because he grew up a Wolfpack fan. According to them Pitt met him Clark this week and tried to set up an official for this weekend, but apparently his mind was already made up. At this point I don't even know who the other competition would be??

I believe some lower level ACC teams like Clemson and Wake Forest, but I don't think they will be much of a factor.

Jamie Dixon met him at the airport Sunday when he got home from the visit. Goal was to get him on campus this weekend for an official. Doesn't look like it worked...

Good to know, Chad. I'm always leery about posting things that I read on other public boards, but this particular poster seemed very knowledgeable about Clark's recruitment. Thanks for validating that claim.

Hopefully tomorrow is another good day!

Assuming Clark commits tomorrow...how good does the future of UC BB look in terms of frosh and what then would be sophs?

Caupain
Johnson
Mormon
Lawrence
Strickland
Moore
Clark

and possibly

Grantham

I would be officially stoked and even without Grantham would be officially stoked with the addition of Clark. Grantham would be icing on the cake.
