I forgot to mention the Cronin pre game interview. A couple of things stood out. He likes the way Marshall runs their offense and said he showed the video to the players to tell them...this is how it should be done. I don't get why in 10 years he can't get his team to run an offense the way he says he wants to? It's a coaches job to make it happen. Playing D for him is non negotiable. Why isn't running offense the way he wants non negotiable? Take a player out and tell him..."you're not setting picks or making extra passes etc...so you're riding pine until you understand".

Also he mentioned Gary Clark was defensive POY in conference...but at our banquet KJ got the award and it wasn't even close.

Yeah it's so frustrating our offense seems to never really know what's going on. We never seem to have a real game plan, just pass til someone shoots.

To your other point about KJs defense. I think it's easier to notice a big guys defense, they get the blocks and a lot of the rebounds, they're the rim protectors. On ball defense gets overlooked IMO. But all those deflections turn into not just steals, but time off the shot clock too, forcing opponents to take worse shots.

I feel like Johnson has definitely been more aggressive on defense this year than any other year. He's always had the stance and good feet, but he seems to be making more plays lately. I've seen more fastbreak opportunities that he's created and finished in the last few games than in his entire career before.

On defense he's going to be important when we are up against great guards that we need a stopper for. Cumberland can perhaps be almost as important in some games when we need some points. KJ isn't a guy that can shoot himself out of a slow start or a funk. There are certainly minutes available for both.

Compared to the other guards per 40 minutes...

Cumberland is 2nd to Evans in FG% and points. He's 2nd to Troy in rebounds. He's only behind the PG's in assists. He's first in steals, blocks and has the lowest turnovers.

Of course he has played the least minutes too so sample size is not huge. On ball defense is not good.

SMU and Houston each moved up 2 spots on KenPom... nothing major.

But UConn, Memphis, UCF, and Temple are now ranked 83, 84, 85, and 86...lol

Who plays and when is subjective to many factors. Game situations, paractice, game plans and others. Cumberland is starting to play like a guy who is adjusting quite well to his role. He will be needed at both the 2 and 3 guard positions. If his play continues to on its present path I'm sure his role will expand. Right now as part of the change of pace group he is really playing well.

Amazing, but KJ is shooting 63% from inside the arc this season. I hope he keeps that up because if his 3's aren't falling, and they are not, he needs a way to keep defenders somewhat honest.

I wouldn't mind seeing shots per 40 minutes roughly reflect our PER right now.

Washington...27.7
Evans...25.6
Clark...25.5
Cumberland...23.2
Scott...23.0
Brooks...18.7
Caupain...18.3
Jenifer...15.7
kJ...11.2
Moore...6.4

It's all based on the situation of course but in no way, shape or form should Quadri be 2nd on team in FGs attempted. If he wants to play he should rebound, defend, set picks, and get assists.

It's hard to explain Troy shooting 24 percent from 3 and 60 percent from the line. This deep into the season I would expect his numbers to be getting better...They aren't. Wtf? Come on man!

It's not that TC is playing badly it's just that to have the type of year we want we need him to do more. He needs to score a bit more. His rebounding, defense and ball ah sling have been good. But we have got to get a few more points from him.

He's playing badly from a shooting standpoint. That's a big part of the basketball game. He's doing many other things well.

Interesting look Jacob.

Our 3 first year guys are starting strong although they haven't played against all the best competition as much as others. Pleasantly surprised!

Washington and Evans making significant jumps. Also very nice to see. They have both slid back a little but overall it's been very positive.

Jenifer has made a slight improvement and I wouldn't mind seeing a few more minutes out of him.

Caupain was getting run for POY but it was mostly from a volume standpoint. He hasn't been efficient for 1.5 years. Just becoming more efficient with shots he could maybe get to 20 or so.

Clark started solid as a frosh and is solid still.

Quadri is consistently bad.

KJ is starting to play much better and his PER is on the rise lately. If he could get up to around 15... I would be impressed.

Overall pretty good numbers so far.

All defense squad.

Clark, Scott, KJ, Evans, Caupain

All offense...

Washington, Clark, Evans, Cumberland, Caupain

I am including Caupain on both because of being a senior leader who has been in the system longer and because Jenifer isn't noticeably better at either. An argument could be made for Jenifer in certain cases I'm sure.

I know we have a long way to go but SKs senior year we had 2 guys at 25 plus in PER. Rubles was 3rd at 16.3...Lol! Let that sink in for a moment.

Right now we have 7 players above Rubles in PER...And the 8th is tied.

JJ will lead college basketball in offensive fouls drawn from the free throw line extended

Just thinking about some of the earlier post on this thread. Many of us were very concerned with our depth. I actually think that our depth is quickly turning into a positive for this team. Brooks, Scott, JJ and Cumberland have been much more then adequate.

A nice season for this team can certainly be had if we improve from the arc and knock down a few more FT's.

Coach is pushing a bunch of the right buttons. There seems to be a bunch of competition for minutes and the players are reacting accordingly. Washington and Evans have both been sat down and both have not sulked but responded with better efforts which says they both have good attitudes. The guys on the bench all seem to be relishing the opportunity to not just come in and buy time but extend the leads they have been given. Everyone seems to have bought into their roles and are playing very hard.

Yea I pretty much now trust our bench to make plays. Beginning the of the season in big games, I kinda Cringed when we would bring in JJ, Tre Scott or Cumberland.

But now, JJ provides a spark of energy. Tre provides all out effort, defense and intensity and then Cumberland provides another shooter, a driver and what i really like, offensive rebounding.

I really like Brooks as well. He is going to be great big man for us but he will always be asked to do less in big games because big men take longer to develop.

Quadri is my biggest concern. If we would just go out on the floor and focus on nothing but rebounding and defense, he could earn more minutes. Offense should come in the flow of the game but instead he forces it.

Also was a bit surprised that in our route of Tulane, Quadri didn't record a single minute
