It really stinks that Troy is going to be a Sr. this season. Without much depth behind him it's going to take a heroic effort from Troy, Gary and Jacob to achieve the kind of season I'd like to see Troy have before he leaves.

Regardless of what happens Troy is going to leave UC as one of my favorite players in the history of the program and for some reason one that seemed to have our fan base polarized. He'll probably top the list of most under-appreciated Bearcats of all time.

I dunno about that. Everyone I talk to loves Tory. He's definitely got a chance in his senior year to cement his legacy. Can't wait to see what's in store. He'll definitely need help around him, though. Many games last year, it seemed like he was the only one doing anything, which made him very inefficient and hurt his #s since he had to overcompensate.

It seems he was on a bit of a rollercoaster of production but with the minutes he logged and really being the sole ball handler on the floor much of the time it certainly is understandable. Hopefully JJ can help a bit more with a year of experience.

Relying on Justin Jenifer for anything at this point is NOT something I would put money on. Did you not see his freshman year? I understand natural development occurs, but there is a certain eye test where a player gets it or he doesn't. I saw nothing out of JJ last year that would place him anywhere near a starting 5 or a solid backup PG.

Our postseason record in Caupain's 3 years is 2-6. Obviously that's not on him...as you mention not having great help. But it's not good enough. I definitely agree he has a chance to cement his legacy this year. Bottom line: He'll have to find a way to lead the team to some major victories if he wants to be in the Bearcat Pantheon.

I love Troy but I've talked to a lot of people who don't seem to appreciate how good he really is. Several people on this board last season were calling for him to be benched.

I definitely feel like he's been under-appreciated to this point in his career. He's probably got the highest basketball IQ of any contributor in the Mick era but he's been a victim of the talent surrounding him on the floor and the poor offensive schemes we run.

If we can take care of business against the crappy teams on our schedule, that'd go a long way in not only Jenifer having a chance at more game experience, but could also allow Caupain to carry less of the burden. I agree that Jenifer obviously won't be counted on in the biggest games. But the biggest games aren't vs the South Floridas of the world. So getting bogged down in rock fights with those kind of teams hurts us in the long run. We should be good enough for Jenifer to play 10+ minutes in at least half of our regular season schedule. Relying on him to do nothing more than save the PGs legs has value imo.

I can appreciate Troy Caupain. Look no farther than EVERY single end of game situation where a score is needed. The play call is inevitable and predictable: drive with Troy. Where would this team have been the past 3 years without him?

I saw and said hi to Troy this morning at CVG. He was very nice. I believe he was headed to Steph Curry camp as mentioned here but I didn't ask. I think Troy is going to have a great senior year.

I'm hoping that's the case. Caupain is phenomenal at not turning the ball over. He averaged just 1.8 turnovers in 33.5 minutes per game. Most PGs will average around 3 in that many minutes. That UConn 4-OT game was nuts...dude dropped 37 points, 10 boards, and 5 assists in 56 minutes and had ZERO turnovers all game. Turnovers really aren't a big concern of mine entering this season.

TC protects the ball like very few in the country can. So does Evans and yet we still turned the ball over more than I'd like. I'm just saying these numbers will be even better just by losing a few guys who turned the ball over a lot.

We have a pretty loaded schedule this season. Gonna be hard to get bench guys a feel early on.

Yes, but we still have perhaps the worst passer I've ever seen play this level of basketball in Kevin Johnson who will see the bulk of the minutes this season.

KJ might break the all time single season turnover record this year if he logs enough minutes.

Deonta Vaughn had 107 and 101 in his soph. and jr. seasons, compared to KJ's 54 and 38....so unless KJ gets like 38+ minutes/game, I have a hard time believing that.

Didn't find Vaughn FR year but TO% for him and Johnson

Vaughn
SO 17.7
JR 19.0
SR 16.8
Career 17.9

Johnson
FR 12.7
sO 20.0
JR 15.2
Career 16.7

Speaking of Vaughn...what is he doing these days?

For comparison

Caupain
FR 19.2
SO 19.9
JR 12.2
Career 16.2

*This estimates TO per 100 plays. And considering Caupain had to make most of the plays last year, 12.2 is as low as you could ever expect. Johnson improved a little last year I guess, but it didn't really feel like it. His SO year was just that bad.

Troy was very good protecting the ball last year. Nice Stat Jake.

According Kenpom, Highest TOrate for UC last year:
1. Moore 27.2
2. Ellis 23.2
3. Jenifer 23.2
4. Shaq Thomas 19.3
5. KJ 18.9

KJ actually Made HUGE strides from Soph to JR season. Soph he was at 24.9 to his JR year being 18.9

Thats a pretty jump. Quadri improved his but only marginally. KJ and TC had the best improvements year over year. So I dunno why we wouldn't expect even better his season year.

That said, our top 3 guys at protecting the ball who are returning.
1. Evans 10.4
2. Clark 13.9
3. TC 14.7

That is good to see because I expect the ball to be in Evans possession quite a bit more this year.

Rehfeldt just posted a picture of both Evans and Washington touching over 12 feet on the vertical jump

Looking at the photo Evans is insane
