Anyone know how the overseas trips work? I saw that Cal and Villanova are playing exhibition games and I know Kansas + Nic Moore did last year. What are the rules there? Anyone know if we have any plans to do something like that in Europe? I know we did the Bahamas one 2 years ago...do we have to wait a certain amount of time before doing it again?
Yes. I believe you are allowed to take a foreign trip once every 4 years.

Thank God! I don't think he's going to come in and make an immediate impact, but we'll need his length and some backup minutes for Washington. Hope he gets some one on one time with Rehfeldt

He could redshirt. We have options behind Washington including Moore and moving Clark over and playing Scott. Now if Brooks is already noticeably better than Moore...then of course he should not redshirt

Yeah I think based off past experiences it would be in his best interest. And he is just now arriving on campus and missed out on some key workouts. The only bad thing is I don't like the idea of having a redshirt freshman in Scott and Quadri as our only backup post players. DeBerry was such a luxury to have coming off the bench. We're already thin and might need Brooks come March.

Brooks was crystal balled to St. John's (go figure) and had interest from South Carolina and Seton Hall. Not Duke or Kentucky, but those aren't the worst of programs. Jon Rothstein also had him on his top 5 AAC under the radar freshman for this year. Not saying he's an expert in evaluating talent, but he did play against solid competition last year and might be more ready than we think. Who knows...

It would be great if he is ready to produce right away but I would redshirt him if he is not noticeably better than Moore or Scott. There is no need to have 3 back up bigs all playing at a similar level. Especially when you can go with only 1 big on the court. That is like having 4 options behind the starting bigs. We are not THIN...we may not have the best quality...but we are not thin. I think after looking at how Scott has filled out his body and muscularity...he can be serviceable as an interior defender. Maybe not guarding a true 5...but he could very well be the primary back up to Clark. If we move Clark over and put in Scott he could also serve as the primary back up to Washington as well in a sense. Of course I am hoping Moore puts in the extra work to make improvements as well.

I just see a Tiny chance of him being red shirted. Leaving your self with 9 players is a bad idea.

One guy gets hurt and your kinda screwed. 2 players get hurt and your really screwed.

Plus him and Tre Scott will be freshman together and he will have his jr and sr year where no one is above him in his position

He is the only legit center on the bench. We might need him more than some people think

Yeah I think you're right on the money. Going with 9 scholarship guys for the sake of Brooks having 5 years, when no one theoretically is blocking him as an upperclassman anyway, seems unnecessary.

I get that. However the depth problem we have is on the wing not down low. Just look at what would happen with just a single injury on the wing (knock on wood). We would need the other two to play all 40 minutes or use Jenifer at PG or slide Scott down. Scott is not a wing player. We can't play guys for 40 minutes. Will Jenifer be ready?

Let's just say Washington gets injured (knock on wood). We can play with just Clark and go small. We can play with Moore and Clark. We can play with Scott and Clark. We have plenty of options there (not saying any are great).

I hope JJ will be ready

A big Key will be how JJ performs. If he can give us some quality minutes that allows us to slide TC to the 2 at times we will be fine. My suspicion is that Cumberland will start the year getting minutes at the 2 and 3. If JJ is effective it will allow Troy to work at the 2 on occasion.

I will be stunned if we add a wing at this late date so having Jj play well is a must. Next year with TC and KJ graduating we will have more playing time to offer a wing.

I can't see Jenifer and Caupain playing together much, if at all. Evans will be at the 3 pretty much all the time. Cumberland will play the 3 when Evans is out, which won't be much. So his minutes will come largely at the 2. Not sure we need 3 guys at the 2 just so Jenifer cam get minutes. Realistically, you gotta believe he'll give Caupain a breather for a few minutes each half, and that's it. Much more important imo for Cumberland to play than Jenifer. Caupain has already proven he can log heavy minutes at the point too, and that's how Cronin likes to use him. No need to slide him to the 2 when he's bring relied on heavily as a PG. In close games, he'll only play the point. In blowouts, he'll just play less minutes. This year isn't going to be about Jenifer finding his role. He's a backup for an All-League player. That's just how it is.

JJ will be fine if the coach gives him the freedom to be himself. If the coach wants him to walk up the court and look over for his high school play call, then give him his release and let him move on. Last year was an example of taking a thoroughbred and trying to turn him into a Budweiser Clydesdale. At the end of the season, JJ was unrecognizable.

L-T Coach needs to find a way to make him effective within the frame work of what he is tying to do for the team. It also JJ's job to gear his game to that plan. Both bear some responsibility. I hope they are able to find that fine line. JJ providing quality back up minutes is big for thins team. Coach is also not going to give him the keys to the car if he can not guard a folding chair.

injuries and foul trouble are a part of every season. Getting quality minutes from JJ helps us avoid that problem. Getting good minutes out of Cumberland is certainly important. JJ's development is big because he is the only PG who can back up TC.

Let's assume that JJ returns to his early season form of a year ago, and his shot improves (there are reports out there that he is shooting much better). I think we all agree, he is much more of a traditional point guard. I would love to see a combo of a traditional point guard, and a 2 guard that has played point guard for 3 years, together on the court. We're hearing reports that Caupain is shooting lights out, so I like the potential that this combo brings in pushing tempo, creativity, and distributing the ball....in addition to being able to hit shots. The issue might be defense. Caupain has never been anything to write home about defensively, and JJ struggled some defensively as well, although I'd argue that he rarely got to break a sweat before he was headed back to the bench last year. I guess a lot depends on how hard JJ has worked this off-season and whether or not Mick is adamant about continuing to run KJ out there no matter how bad he is performing. I guess the best case is that KJ blossoms into a real player as a senior and JJ gives us great minutes and a spark off the bench.

That hasn't stopped him from giving the keys to Caupain for three years. He has always been weak defensively. As a coach, you have to balance the gain in offense against the loss of defense. Mick cannot get past desiring to be defined by defense. It is the only accolade that he gets. He probably can't sleep at night if his defensive average gets past 60, even though the truth is that he plays slow offensively so the other team can't get to 60. Everyone thinks we play incredible defense when our slow offense is holding the other team down as much or nore than our great defense. It has been proven over and over that his style of play gets us nowhere in March. Let's continue to be defined by defense and poor performance in March and continue to play with a roster of 9 or 10 players because we can't get players to sign here. Makes sense to me.

asking players to guard is not unreasonable. In any walk of life if you want to do well you better satisfy the boss. So we don't play good defense it's more a product of our system. I guess Clark should give the defensive player of the year award back. This team guards. If your awake at the games you can see the effort. TC is a all conference player. JJ isn't close to being in his league. Look we need JJ. He is our only back up. I hope he makes a huge leap in his play.
