L-T we have beat the subject to death. It generally shows up in every thread. It is generally debated by the same people with the same arguments on each ocassion. How much does he make, how long has he been here and on and on. I have a different view of what I consider a successful program. i want the program to meet my standard and you want it to meet yours. We are both fans. I guess will have to agree to disagree. Personally I hope Mick finds a way to meet your expectation. because as I pointed out the admin is far from making a change and you are a longtime supporter of the program. If they were close to your perdiction his interest in the Vegas job would have been handled much differently. I'll bet you a 6 pack he is here at least 3 more seasons

Waite, I'm sure posts about the head coach are the number one most popular topic on every fan forum in America. There's only one person who can make them go away...the head coach. Win some championships, make a run in March, sign some Blue Chip recruits, fill the roster for a change, change something when what you are doing really isn't working all that well. It's pretty simple.

He didn't say "Less per 40 mins". He said "less". But now that you answered for him....he'll claim that is what he meant...lol! Also, he had SK, Jackson and Rubles throwing up over 1000 shots between them, and still he almost shot as much per 40 mins than Jenifer.

I was going off KenPom's Percentage of Shots Taken stat.

Which was 15% for Troy and 17% for Justin Jenifer.

I'd never compare raw numbers to players who didn't play the same amount of minutes.

That said, I like Justin Jenifer but to down play how important Caupain is to this team is kinda crazy. Im not Sure we get to play kentucky if it weren't for TC 2 years ago. And his performance against UCONN was unreal good. He had a rocky season where I think he felt the pressure of carrying the team but he is going to have scorers around him this season

I don't mind him as a player. I just don't like him as a point guard. His shoot first mentality doesn't allow the offense to work to generate a higher percentage shot for somebody, including himself. When you only shoot well down in the 30 percentile range, you shouldn't be dominating the shot attempts. If your passing skills are so-so, and your transition skills are so-so, you probably shouldn't have the ball in your hands the whole game. The reason he doesn't turn the ball over is that he rarely tries to force anything or create anything or even push the pace in transition. He settles for the safe stuff. That is ok, but what has it gotten us? Two 1st round exits and a 2nd round exit in the NCAA. His greatness should carry over to the team. It hasn't yet.

LT..Hopefully UC has a losing season this year and next so there will be a coaching change. Then We will go undefeated and win championships. Every recruit will want to come to UC once Cronin is gone!

Go Xavier!

We're trying to discuss Caupain, and you change the discussion back to Cronin. I thought you all were sick of that topic? I'll be happy to discuss Mick, but I'd prefer that the Cronin apologists stop hijacking these threads and stay on topic. ;)

My fault. Hopefully Caupain transfers.

Go Jennifer!

You know I personally go back and forth on this issue. I really like my PG's to be able to create a bit more then TC. Like you I have often considered what the team would look like with TC at the 2 as a combo guard and a PG with a bit more shake and bake ability. Then he goes and turns in a performance like the UCONN game and confuses me even more. I'm not nearly as high on JJ as you but I think I understand why you want to see him play. His game projects to a more traditional PG who facilitates for others. The issue I have is can he deliver better results which advance the team. Then TC is named all league and as you say what do I know. I'm not ready to hand JJ the keys. I hope he has improved enough to give quality minutes so TC is not run into the ground by years end. I think some are confusing your point with disrespecting TC's game. I don't feel that way.

Waite, we've invested 3 years into Troy. He's a good player with a lot of experience. I'm happy we have him. Is he one of my favorite Bearcats of all time? Absolutely not. Is he good enough to get us to a Final 4? Maybe. I'm fine with him. I just don't care for him playing the position that Mick has him playing. Am I saying that Jenifer should be handed the keys to the offense? Absolutely not. What I'm saying is that Jenifer has the type of game that fits the point guard position a lot more than Caupain's game does. That doesn't mean that Jenifer should just become a starter. And I am not suggesting that Troy should ever go to the bench if Jenifer would get the nod at point guard. Troy would hands down win the 2-guard slot if he didn't win the PG slot. Jenifer needed work on all of his skills based on what we saw last year. We can argue whether Mick messed with his confidence or not, but the fact is, he certainly didn't earn a lot of playing time with his performance last year. My hope is that he worked his tail off and is ready to take on more minutes this year....up to and including being the starting point guard. If he has improved his decision making, his shooting, and his defense, then by all means, give him a shot and move Troy to the 2-guard. If not, Troy will do fine where he is. The ball is in Jenifer's court. I don't expect him to move Troy to the 2-guard, but it sure would be nice if he has improved enough to make that a possibility. That would be a win-win for the team.

All I want from Troy is for him to shoot a little better from 3 and drive the ball more.

Troy was never flashy in his passing game but he never turns the ball over, and gets a good amount of assists per game.

Add in that when you hear other non Uc fans talk about Troy or even other coaches, they seem to really like him because he plays with such steady pace. He maybe the most drab point guard to watch but that doesn't mean anything about how he leads this team.

Coaches in the AAC seem to speak well of him. Not sure about non-UC fans. I'd say most college basketball fans around the country have no idea who he is. The Xavier and KU fans I know that do know who he is make fun of UC for how slow we play and how unwatchable our games are...and Caupain is the one who orchestrates that.

Do you expect UK or X fans to say anything good about UC?

KU fans don't care about UC one way or the other. They just know that watching UC games is terrible. I've been getting a lot of guff from them about what they'll have to watch if we get into the Big 12.

Tell your Kansas buddies that we agree with them!

Good post. It would be great if JJ has improved so much that he deserves 20 minutes per game. Having a fair amount of time with him at the point would mean more rest for Troy and several minutes per game of Troy at the SG which would also be great.

This season's ceiling will likely be determined by how good our second unit can be. If we can get good production from Scott, Cumberland, JJ and even mediocre performance from Brooks and Quad, we'll be in great shape.

If things go really well, KJ should be coming off the bench starting in February.

Fingers crossed.

The big 12 is a horrible cluster i really want no part if that conference , unfortunately theyre the only life boat but even that boat is sinking

Better to be on a life boat that is slowly sinking than to already be drowning.

Looks like were playing Marshall according to their schedule.

Some one said it was in place of us losing michigan... yikes
