Lol come on LT. That is the smallest sample size ever. Let them get combined 50 3 pointers and see what the percent is then.

Do you honestly think these two are ever going to light it up? They were only a combined 95 for 300 last year.

I really hope Caupain can get back on track like when he shot 41% from deep during his sophomore year. I'd be fine with 37/38%. But I think Kevin will remain stuck around 31%.

Caupain and Johnson are combined 30.6% from 3 the last 35 games. You can only make it so far with the starting backcourt shooting like that.

We have to do a better job with getting wide open looks. Better ball movement. Unfortunately KJ is a cog in the wheel if you're trying to move the ball around the perimeter quickly. Gotta keep the D on their toes. Faster perimeter ball movement should give us more opportunities to post up our bigs each time down increasing our chances at getting them in good position.

For this reason alone we need less KJ.

Agreed.

Really need to compare year over year rather than across 2 years. Different personnel and potential for improvement/regression of players. I'd like to see the numbers at the end of November compared to the numbers at the end of November from last year to get an idea of the trend.

Yeah I can understand that. At some point though, it is what it is. Good shooters are going to shoot well despite any system/personnel. Will be interested to see how it shakes out over the coming games.

The other problem with ball movement unfortunately is Cronin. It seems like we want to pass the ball...wait to see if we can get it to the post...then pass again when that option isn't there.

We should be making a few quick passes to catch the defensive out of position and then make a quick entry pass or even a 3 if it's open. We always wait for the defense to get set and decide it's not there rather than making the entry pass while the defense is trying to get there.

Certain players are better than others at this.

Jake having a couple of big guys who can pass the ball like Clark and Washington will also help. The problem so far this year is we have been in foul trouble early. Hopefully as the season goes on Washington will understand how important it is he stay on the floor and cut down on his fouls. A couple I have seen are certainly preventable. If the other team is forced to double him or Gary it should give us cleaner looks on the perimeter. Both are more then capable of making the right pass.

Washington has averaged 2 fouls per game. So getting them early really hurts. We need him on the floor for as many minutes as he can handle. Same with Clark. I hope their endurance is good. I know Clark has had issues with that.

Our two starting guards are shooting a combined 7.7% from three. Caupain is 16% and Johnson is 0%. This is against cupcakes. I can see a lot of zone down the road, especially since we have Washington as a strong offensive presence inside now. I also expected Clark to be pretty strong from three. He has looked horrible. As usual, we need shooters bad.

You just look for an reason to beat up caupain. Pretty sure most of us agree his shooting percentage from 3 isn't what makes him great against us

Well I'd have disagree with that. Systems can make shooters much better, like others have talked about having bigs that can pass can change our 3pt percentage big time.

So Cobb shot 39.4% from 3 last year. Johnson played the same position on the same team but shot 30.8%. How do you explain that? It's pretty easy for me...one guy is a good shooter, the other isn't. Sure some systems can get good looks for players. But do you believe there is a system at the high D1 level that would have Johnson shooting around 40%? Be honest.

Never said any of that, just said that certain systems can make shooters better. Obviously no matter the system the better shooter is gonna be the better shooter.

It's pretty simple...you get an open shot and you shoot it. I don't think it matters what scheme you are in other than getting more open shots. I think we have shooters that can make open shots but too often our % is dragged down because we have to get off late shots or guarded shots. Not all the time but it doesn't help. We need to work to get things going earlier in the shot clock by penetrating or getting it to the block so our kick outs are open instead of late clock heaves.

My attempt to break down tiers. Why not?

Players I would like to see get around 30 minutes or more in big games.

Washington, Clark, Evans, Caupain.

Players to get around 15 plus minutes.

KJ, Jenifer, Cumberland

Players 10 or less.

Moore, Scott, Brooks.

I would like to see one of the bottom 3 rise up to tier 2 status and 1 from tier 2 to rise up to tier 1.

Go back and watch the Duke vs Kansas game from earlier this week if you have the ability and then watch any UC game.

Obviously the caliber of player is different but the offensive systems these teams run is light years beyond anything we've seen under Mick.

I understand your post but I just want to win. If you ask me who should get how many minutes I would agree with your logic but much goes into managing a game. Foul trouble, effectiveness, health and I'm sure a few others. As the season unfolds I'm sure the staff will define roles but again that can change game to game based on events within the game.

To your point from what I have seen so far having Washington, Clark, TC and Evans available and on the floor looks like a good thing. Fitting in the rest is still a work in progress.
