I know this has been brought up before, but if Jennifer continues to play well, when will he earn a starting spot? When him and Troy are on the court together I feel like our offensive flows much better. KJ is still playing like KJ. His defense is great, but I love what I have been seeing on the defensive end for Jennifer as well.

I think Jenifer has to come in and play great in this next game against Butler. Jenifer's best games have been against mid and low major schools. But when he gets his chance in these huge games he needs to not play scared ( I think he looks a little nervous in the big games). If he comes in and gives us some energy from the bench I think then earns more and more playing time.

That said, I don't see him starting this season. I like him being a spark off the bench and a change of pace

I think you're right here. Having a spark plug coming off the bench could help us more than him starting.

He's been bad in several games, but KJ played well in the past two games. We don't win the game at Iowa State without KJ. He came up big in that game.

I like JJ, but if KJ continues to play at the same level as he has the past two; he'll continue to start. I like JJ's energy off the bench anyway.

PER Through 9 games:
Kyle Washington 30.3
Jacob Evans 24.9
Tre Scott 22.4
Gary Clark 21.3
Jarron Cumberland 18.7
Troy Caupain 17.9
Nysier Brooks 16.9
Justin Jenifer 12.0
Kevin Johnson 7.2
Quadri Moore 0.7

Minutes per game:
Troy Caupain 32.9
Jacob Evans 32.3
Kevin Johnson 27.8
Gary Clark 27.0
Kyle Washington 26.0
Justin Jenifer 16.6
Jarron Cumberland 13.7
Tre Scott 13.4
Nysier Brooks 7.3
Quadri Moore 6.9

Johnson playing over twice as many minutes as Cumberland. Can't continue at that ratio. Should be much closer to even imo.

I have yet to see Cumberland look apart of this offense though. He is the biggest freshman I've ever seen and he plays scared to death. I have Zero doubt in Cumberland being a long term impact player for UC. But he ain't Jacob Evans as freshman. Not even close, and it's no even about numbers, it's about the way he looks on the court.

Scared to death? Really? I don't see that at all. He is unsure of himself at times, but he's a bench guy getting spot minutes at best. Maybe with a chance at an expanded role he'd improve? I mean he's as sure with the ball as anyone we have. And he doesn't have to be better than Evans was last year (btw Evans wasn't that great last year. I feel like it gets remembered differently bc of that final game)...he needs to be better than Johnson. If he was given the minutes Johnson gets, we might see the player we hope for. But he won't develop as long as he's blocked...much like Thomas getting in the way of Evans last year. Johnson has had 4 years and he is what he is. Cumberland has had 9 games of random minutes. I'd say he deserves an actual chance before we say he's disappointing. What do we have to lose? He can't possibly give us less than Johnson. Bc with Johnson, in any big game you can pretty much mark it down that he'll shoot like sh*t, barely score, won't rebound, and won't make plays for others.

Jenifer 52.9%

Caupain 23.1%
Cumberland 17.6%
Johnson 17.1%
Clark 9.1%

If everyone on the team scored at Kevin Johnson's per 40 minute rate, we'd score 43 points per game. I don't care how good you are at defense, you flat out can't be an asset if you cannot produce on one end of the floor.

These numbers are shockingly bad. We only have 1 guy who shoots 2+ 3s per game making more than Caupain's 23.1%. Our starting backcourt combines to take over 8 per games at 20.3%.

It's really hard to explain with this many games played already. These guys can obviously make a higher percentage than they are...but it hasn't really been getting better. I mean Troy, KJ and Cumberland. Even Clark.

Yeah we'll be fine against the teams we should beat up on. But it's the same old question...can we win big games? I believe we're now 6-18 the last 3 years in the Tier A games NTS has talked about. Hard to see that changing much.

So we have some issues. Kyle needs to settle down and make smart decisions and cannot get baited or take nights off rebounding. Evans needs to start shooting the stop and pop from the start of the game. We need someone to step up and take minutes from KJ.

Most importantly...we need Cronin to figure out a way to get these guys, sharing the ball, driving and dishing, setting picks, making extra passes, etc. He says he's been asking for it...but it's not happening.

Hopefully we can work on all of this in the upcoming 3 game stretch. We can use the bench as a motivator and hopefully find a SG who can make the offense work better.

WH I think the team is still learning and adjusting but one thing that would help is if we shoot the darn ball better from the 3 point line. Without that Gary and Kyle will always have a tough job to do. Right now the opposition doesn't even have to guard us out there. Without that we will be very easy to guard.

Yup. That is by far the biggest disappointing so far. What are we supposed to do when the ball doesn't go through the hoop. Cumberland has 3 threes. He's a sg. SHOOTING GAURD. If your SHOOTING GAURD can't make a 3 then you're in trouble. I get what everyone says about KJ, but he's at least aggressive and truly does play better defense then any of the other guards. He's not unbelievable on D but at least goes all out. Cumberland has showed me nothing so far.

I still think Caupin will get better at shooting. Bright side is Caupain and Gary stepping up against a big time opponent on the road. KW will only use what happened Saturday as motivation. We had some tough calls. Overall just not a good game for us, but it's ok. We have serious potential to make a huge run and I'm hoping no more losses when Xavier comes next month. @Temple and @Houston are our biggest games up until that point.

we all know KJ is in there for defensive purposes and to shoot the occasional open 3. But as a senior, he has to do a better job of knowing what he can and cannot do. Dribbling, driving, or having the ball with under 10 on the shot clock all need to be cut out of his game. If that makes the rest of the team easier to guard, so be it, but him dribbling and driving results in a TO or bad shot. And for the love of god. stop with the pump fake. He passed up an open 3 with his awful pump fake, that he does everytime he touches the ball, giving the D time to adjust and then get a hand in his face for a contested 3. Oh, and make your damn layups

You can also tell coach told Gary to just stop passing. Get the ball and go to work in the paint. He looked to score a lot when he got the ball. He needs to keep doing that, and he too will start to have his 3 ball go in. He has nice form.

Going over the schedule in the beginning of the year I figured we were going to split the games in Mohegan and hopefully split the games against ISU and Butler. That ISU win really was huge. Of course I was hoping in the Mohegan it would have been a win against R.I. and a loss against Duke but it is what it is. I truly think we beat Xavier and that leaves us with 2 OOC losses. The test is if we really can blow through our conference with no more than 3 losses. I really think we can and don't see us losing a home game at all this year.

Gary really got much more aggressive against Butler. I just hope he can do that with Kyle on the floor. He seems to turn his offensive game down a notch when Washington is on the floor.
