This team does seem to have a better handle on the mental part of the game. But lets not discount talent and experience as key contributors.

Our freshman have played better then many expected.

JJ has been light years better

Washington has been as advertised

And the other returnees have played to their level or better. While we havn't shot the ball as well in some cases we have improved in other areas that have made up for our shooting woes which has made us a better team. We also have avoided the injury bug for the most part. ( knock on Wood )

I think Washington is huge for our mentality. He's a special player.

Realistically now a 5-7 seed in the tourney after a loss to SMU. Not ideal for our Sweet 16 hopes given historical results from those seed lines.

Haven't looked at SMU's remaining schedule but we might have to go 17-1 to split the AAC title. Would be disappointing to walk away with nothing this season...definitely need to refocus and step on the gas down the stretch here.

Realistically not even being optimistic but there's a very good chance we win the rest of our regular season games. You finish the season at 28-3..What more can you truly ask for? Big thing is we need to bring it in the conference tourney. It needs to be a rematch on the Sunday championship against SMU that we need to win. A 31-3 season is truly amazing. Let trust that we get better from this loss and move forward. The loss stings now but hopefully will be a blessing in disguise.

It will be interesting what the SMU loss will do for our resume since we have already beat them once. Seeing them climb the polls could be better for us if we can beat them in the tourney finals since they could easily run the table from here till there. Two wins over a top 15 team could be better than 3 over a team barely in the top 25 or just outside.

Their win over us gave them serious legitimacy. They will likely end up the highest ranked team we played (and beat) all year.

We have other problems we need to fix though if we want to make it to at least the second week of the dance (or to beat SMU again). Most importantly we need our senior PG to perform above average.

SMU is almost 10 clear of us in Kenpom right now ranked 12 to our 21. They are a handful! They have a stud player and several others who can not only knock down 3's but also create....with a very solid D to boot.

We need to add the "creating" part to our performance. If we do we can make serious noise...if we can't best we can hope for is sweet 16. Our best two creators might just be on the bench.

One game at a time!

Not even LeBron James could get all the way to the rim off the dribble when teams make a point to pack it in on us (ok maybe he could but you get the point). It will have to be our passing. We must feed the post better, instead of passing it around the perimeter. And guys will have to slash from there.

Yah...I agree it is hard to drive when you play two guys on the block and the other team packs it in. Maybe we drift one of our bigs out to the perimeter and give our guards a little room here and there to mix it up? Not every possession of course. IDK...just thinking out loud here.

If we don't do something we become two dimensional. I think we are going to need the 3rd dimension in March to some extent.

We have two bigs who can make perimeter shots. They are also very good on the block. We need to take full advantage of this! Our guards haven't been driving...every once in a while we need to clear the lane a little bit (on one side) to open things up for them so we can get to the rack, dish, or kick it back out. Straight inside out is a little too predictable to plan against.

Inside out should be our main focus...but not if we totally shut down our penetrations options.

NTS, this is for you since you keep calling Washington a black hole and ragging on him for lack of assists...

Washington is having one of the best offensive season of any big guy we've ever had, and he still has another year left. He is a play FINISHER, not a play CREATOR. He has good touch around the hoop and can get his shot off/finish over anyone. His work before he even gets the ball is masterful. The shots Washington puts up, and the rate he makes them, makes getting him the ball where he does one of the main goals of an efficient offense. I honestly don't know what you expect him to do, but if you don't notice that he is lightyears better than the overwhelming majority of college big men, I really have to question what you think you're watching.

Would be nice if passed the ball instead of forcing up a shot through a double team every once in a while. Why take a 50% shot and give up either a wide-open three or a lay up? 16 assists and 30 turnovers since the Butler game. It gets frustrating sometimes watching him throw up a shot when guys are wide open.
