2016 General Recruiting

Malcolm Bernard is pretty damn "mediocre." Average 14 points a game on the second worst team in the NCAA(according to KenPom). Career 26% 3-pt shooter. Turned the ball over 3.5 times a game last season, which equates to over 20% of the time he turns the ball over. Poor foul shooter. High usage rate.

Guess he'd be good for some length and depth. Other than that, no thanks.

He is a solid pickup and adds depth. Im not saying he is going to be a game changer but he will surely help X. He is a 6'5 guard who has decent skils.

My frustration is we could use some depth and our coaches don't consider grad transfers.

IF we added him, people would complain. His Kenpom offensive rating would be only higher than Quadri (88) as he is a 91 ORT

Like on Xavier's team, he is lowest offensive rated player on the active roster.

HIs TO rate against Tier A&B teams is in the 40's...And he can't hit a 3 yet continues to shoot them. His overall TO is still the highest on the current X roster and is against mostly terrible teams.

He is depth for Xavier. 10 minutes a game max I would think, unless he does something special while there

Exactly he didn't look like anything special to me. I'd rather Tre Scott see additional minutes than bringing in some grad transfer that isn't going to contribute much or turn the ball over. Yes they're different positions, but when Evans needs a break we'll probably either have 2 SGs on the floor, 2 PGs or 2 PFs. Yes more depth would be nice, but if the coaches don't bring anyone else in our starting 5 is still most likely better than last year's.

They have tried to add multiple grad transfers this off season...

Thanks for the clarification which helps to be less frustrated. I know the situations need to be conducive for both transfer and team but it seems like we simply don't get them.

Have we ever had a grad transfer in Cronin's tenure?

I just think this current team would surely benefit from having an experienced body.

Yes I agree.

Also, we don't need depth at the 4/5 if they are really no better than Quadri. We have Scott and Brooks as well. Why do we need a 6th big man if they can't give us the type of minutes DeBerry did? It makes no sense to me. We have plenty of bodies to throw out there. We don't need bodies...we need quality or don't bring them in.

Now on the wing we could use bodies in case of emergency IMO. I would add a wing in a heartbeat that could give us 10 emergency minutes.

Yeah, just because Xavier decided to go for him does this mean we missed out on some game changer. Not at all.
Thats the problem everyone thinks we need a game changer and are going to find one at this point. We just need some more role players and practice guys with some skill. Someone who can step in a few minutes here and there and provide rest for our main guys and some guys who are going to push our players in practice. Make it a grad transfer he is here for one year gets to be on a NCAA tournament and conference champion team and we don't loose any scholarships... why is that so difficult to do

Yes I agree.

I personally would ONLY want a grad transfer for next year. We all know that all the good wings are already gone.

So I'd only want to use a scholarship if its a 1 and done kinda deal. Just dont want to take mediocrity to satisfy an immediate need if it hurts the future.

its a win win for Xavier. They can still bring in 5 or 6 2017 recruits and he fills a spot on the bench. Would I take this guy? Sure, its low risk High reward. But am I butt hurt we didn't get a guy in who turns over the ball a lot (something Cronin wouldn't stand for) and only matched up against terrible compeition his whole career.

Thank about that now, Xavier has 2 players who come from small schools where they have never faced competition like they will this season. Gaston played poorly in every game where he played against a non mid major school. And the biggest school Bernard played against last year was Houston, where his team lost by 40 and he scored just 6 points.

people are raving about them, but they have a lot of questions marks after losing Farr and Reynolds and Remy Able

I would certainly agree if we were using up our schollies every year...but we aren't. I would also take a juco

Xavier got a non factor today. A shooting guard from FAMU (a pathetically bad team) who is an awful shooter. This guy will be a lesser version of remy able, doesn't hurt them to take him but honestly does not really help them one bit besides depth in case a couple injuries.

-Now I've heard from a several people something did happen with Myles davis and he has a booked offense for domestic violence against a girl from xavier. But let's not forgot it's xavier so don't expect much punishment from Mack who never punishes his guys so i don't see him getting kicked off or suspended for this. Love how they got still act like uc has these thugs when their players are constantly getting in trouble these days.

-Love it or not guys we aren't landing anybody that can play for us this year, we are going in with the very talented but thin team we have. If we stay healthy and are not foul prone we will be in the top 25 all year. Injuries and or fall trouble from our bigs could be our downfall. But time to focus on 2017 as far as recruits go imo. (Would gladly eat my words on this but really don't think I will). I do really really like the two we did get this off season in broome and moore and I promise to those not as pumped these two will be good players here, I get their underranked and I don't care. compare that to x down the road who got 3 star jarred ridder who hardly even gets in on his Aau team, and this bernard dude who is a non factor from FAMU this off season.I'll take our two guys ten out of ten times over that

I'm worried about injuries...but also worried about our guys being at their best in March. Missing out on help this Spring could hurt our main guys late in the season if they have to play 35+ minutes everytime we play a decent team. Injury and fatigue is not an acceptable excuse this year.

I get the injury concern but being our best in March we will be fine, these are young athletic kids. Micks only sweet 16 team wasn't very deep if it makes anyone feel better (I'll still argue that teams in the elite 8 if yancy didn't get that 4 foul). But yes mick can't use depth as an excuse no matter what happens, he didn't get any help this spring so he better have next man up ready. No excuses this season I want and expect top 25 minimum all season
